Two Questions To Prepare

Hi, I’ve been looking forward to this game for a little while now and just recently joined the forum as some of you might have noticed so I don’t know some basic info about the game I’d like to know so here there are:

  1. What is the BEST setup to play the game between “Keyboard”, “Keyboard+Mouse”, and “Controller”? I can do all three of them so the question isn’t about the difficulty of it but the efficiency. My guess is K+B or K only as controller has very limited buttons.

  2. Can you actually dodge the ennemy attacks without the DEX rolls? What I mean is running or dashing out of every attack hitboxes and attacking in between them (kind of like Dark Souls) or this game is about theorycrafting the best build you can find and tanking everything with evasion and defense?

Thanks for the time and see you in-game soon hopefully!

Your most efficient setup varies from class to class. Use all three them, randomly.

Yes, if you move out of the area an attack is going to hit, it won’t hit you.

Alright, thanks =) (adding extra letters so i can post wfhwegvwuyfgv)

I find myself always more proficient with controller unless I have a lot of typing to others I have to do. Yet if I can play more relaxed I can get in the zone better and therefore not fatigue nearly as quickly. It’s up to preference really. Even with limited buttons, there are combinations to make up for that, L1 and R1 are typically used as a ctrl and shift on a keyboard to bind extra hotkeys to the button pads.

I haven’t gotten a chance to play myself, so I can’t say for sure on the second question!

ToS does have very little amount of skills so I can see what you are saying. Using R/L buttons as alternate commands might be enough to use all the skills and it is true that you feel more relaxed with a controller as you can just be in a chill position and not stretch a single finger for certain buttons

Keep in mind that if you lag you might get hit even if you’re already out of their hitbox. Example: Harugal and any PvP.

Playing games is a great way to relax, have fun, and do so the way you want. Doesn’t help the fun factor when your pinky is cramping for jamming ctrl all day. Plus, keeping my wrists off the desk whenever I can has been the best thing I’ve done in gaming for a while. Still can’t escape it with some games though! (Looking at you D3 and PoE)

A few bosses can try to do something similar to a bullet hell, but with less bullets, so yeah, you’ll have to avoid that.

But most of the time you’ll rely on evasion/defense to beat trash mobs.

I like the controller, just because it’s more comfortable, the mouse is better at aiming skills, but i like to be comfortable.

I think I’m gonna start off with K+M but that might be bound to change as I’ll try them all whenever I can just to see. Thx for the info guys! Made me change my mind on the controller =P

I do feel like it’s best to use a keyboard and maybe a K+M simply because there’s a lot of skills that you get. Although, there’s always going to be a skill that you always spam simply because it’s so good.

I prefer controller, it is good and i don’t strain my hand with the mouse lol.

Bosses basic attacks don’t show telegraphs, but special attack does, you can avoid them moving out of the marks, as for other attacks, yeah you can dodge, be it melee or ranged, just not sure about projectile attacks (archer type enemies) i think if you are in the range when the enemy shoot and move away you still take hit.

You have 40 shortcut place holders divided into 2 sets, on controller as you can see bellow, you use a combination of L, R, LT and RT to change which block of commands you want to use, and to change to the second set you press LT + RT (on game is show as L2 + R2).

I was making pots during a boss fight and my summon was hitting it lol that is why it was 3 skills, it was on Set 2

So the whole dodge/evade mechanics are like Torchlight (where you can run out of the melee mobs attacks but arrows hit you no matter what). That’s what i was wondering, thx =D

Oh wow. Didn’t think there was actually combinations of 2 R/L buttons to display another set of skills. That makes alot more skills you can use. Nice =P.

Yeah, you can see that each set of 20 is divided by 4, so the first is L + A, B, X or Y (xbox controller here), the next is R + A, B, X or Y and same goes for LT and RT, and L + R will highlight the 4 block set in the middle.

Pressing LS you activate focus mode, it means that your targeting will stick to the first target you aim and don’t release until you deactivate the Focus Mode or kill that target, i use it on bosses its pretty handy. There is a mouse mode, if i am not mistaken you press RS, but honestly i prefer using the mouse for that.

Tip…just use “20/char” ;D

i think it depends alot on the class you’re playing

for me, controller was very nice on a swordsman during the icbt2.
my friend said that keyboard and mouse were good with wizzy.
i also had an archer friend playing on a controller but i don’t know if that had more to do with laziness than efficiency

During iCBT2 I was playing with keyboard setup only. After being able to remap keys (which kind of wasnt allowed, but thats not the point…), things ran smoother to me, whether twas as ranged or melee classes.

@Gunnr I hope you can remap keys on OBT. Not allowing that is stupid.

You can and there’s even a UI for that (which didn’t have a way to remap Controller tho).

Unless you’re lagging and your ping is high, going even a yard away wont save you. :joy:

In icbt2 I was a caster and I used keyboard i.e. default. I can say though that my biggest complaint was the speed of how slowly the targeting circle moved.

With a mouse you’re able to place the circle any distance from yourself immediately and accurately. With a keyboard though your circle will move about as fast as the normal character runs. This is sub-par for PvE as sometimes you’ll be standing in place for 1+ second just moving your circle to the enemy before you can cast your spell, but in PvP it is absolutely horrible.

As players don’t follow any predicted paths, and can run the same speed of your placement circle (with no option in-game at all to increase the scroll speed of the circle), they often can avoid your spells. Some characters can even outrun your circle meaning if they just run up or down and around you will have wasted 2+ seconds trying to target them with your spell only to have to cancel the spell entirely because they’ve closed the gap.
