Tree of hardcore grindfest

I’m level 51 and apparently ranked 30th (although I was 3rd at one point today) out of all the beta testers or something.

Personally I believe the rates we have now are fine for release. Peoples problem is they are all ragnarok online sheeple who run to the nearest 10-levels-above-you area and try to farm it to little success (eg Chapel B1,F1). Whenever I passed through i’d see a level 20 fighting level 40 mobs, and i’m like, why?

People need to kill stuff nearer their level. Speed and sustain is more important than monster level. My metric as an archer is “Can I kill this enemy before it reaches me, without getting hurt?” - if I can do that, and it gives XP, then I can kill fast enough to level up quickly.

Monster priority: Melee > Magic > Ranged
You can kill melee without being touched. Magic can be dodged. Ranged autoattacks cannot be dodged and will inevitably whittle you down to death.

Monster level priority: (equal to your level) > up to 5 below your level > up to 5 above your level.
EG: As a level 15, you can kill 50 level 10 mobs that give 80xp each or kill 10 level 20 mobs that give 110 whilst resting in the middle. What gives more? Highest xp per kill isn’t always the best thing.

May be different for other classes but this is my 2 silver.

I give up on trying to save your mmo soul go back to wow atleast i can say i tried.

So apparently even the programming is the same case. White knighting the game at its finest.

Yeah, the grind is pretty slow, what makes it worse though is the fact that there are hardly any spots to grind that dont already have 3-4 parties and with the grind spots being so small and monster spawn time so slow, it only makes the grind all the more brutal.

Also, unreleated but I think it wouls be handy if the name of the zone you are in appeared on your map

I’m not sure what part of swordsman second circle you didn’t understand.

Now shoo troll

I agree with OP. At around 25 the grindfest begins and it is NOT ok. Something needs to be done about it.

I did say the same about the FF7 remake and the bandwagon hoppers “OH MY GOD PLS SONY PLSPLSPLSPLS REMAKE PLSPLSPLS”
There are ons of other games out there, tons of new games which are also a lot of fun yet they onl stick to the past never moving forward and only looking back. That’s just dumb and nothing else.
While WoW is inferior in the mechanics you have more options for grinding in it, you won’t have to kill the exact same monster a thousand times. You can actually do something worthy of the time invested. Which is questing.
Only because half of the forum users are old RO players doesn’t mean that they have to make ToS into a RO clone. ToS is ToS and RO is RO. If they want to play a RO clone or something like RO then they should just play RO instead and let the other people who want to play ToS play ToS.

@thebloodyaugust Mostly the people who are blind to the new things choose only the past. I understand how much fun and what memories old games bring. I’m still playing MGS or The Legend of Dragoon or even Alundra 1 and 2, mainly because they are fun. But I also play the new games and try to look for the good things in new games instead of saying “Bah, in my time…” or “Back then…”.
The past is the past, try to look forward for a change. Times change you know? And with all the other games and alternatives out there ToS can’t just put in a grindfest so early in the game, where there is no diversity and everyone is doing the exact same. ToS won’t survive very long that way. It will be either made P2W or it will die.

Max level? End game? I’m not shooting for that. I simply want to play the class I’m aiming for, and then maybe start a new character and aim for another class. Not everyone’s the super hardcore player that will dedicate their everything to a single character. Some people wanna explore what the game has to offer.

And then some people just wanna be able to summon a dog. =p=

“That’s just dumb and nothing else” - Not a nonsense if every game past FinalFantasy 12 wasn’t well received and that is shown by the sales.
However ever since they announced FF7 Remake Square Enix stocks has been the highest since 2008.
Tell me more about “dumb”. it’s actually the reverse ,it is SMART. You’re trying to be too hipster for your own good.

New games Suck. Just to put it into perspective they are thinking about making Rocket League the game of the year.
While I agree that it’s fun. It’s an extremely simple design and doesn’t have much content.
The only other good game I’ve played this year was Ark:Evolved.

I dislike your argument, Elders scrolls is a continuation of the same thing and it’s always well received. Same story with Fallout. What about X-com. Your argument is way too simplistic and omits the fact that ppl play old games because they are fantastic and nobody has the balls or creative spirit to make something better.

“New games suck”.
And this is what I mean. You are being completely ignorant about this. The new games don’t “suck” it’s just that they are different than the “glorious golden” old games. And it’s a good thing that they are different than the old games! If you don’t bring changes every now and then it’s all getting boring. Also the thing is that you dwindle so much in the past that you can’t even see changes in gameplay even if you tried looking for them. People like you are always comparing new games to the old games. You can’t do that. If you do that then you’ll never be able to have real fun. And also: If you think it’s so easy bringing a completely new game where everything is completely different then why don’t you make one? Show the world how it’s done, I’ll be waiting for it. And if it’s actually a lot of fun then I’ll gladly admit that I’m in the wrong.
Also: The “old games” have already done pretty much everything. RPGs with a story, humorous games, shooters, stealth action. Everything has already been made once, it’s not easy to come up with something entirely new and different. It’s just that you look way too much back reminding yourself of how “glorious” these old games were. You just don’t want to see the good points of todays games. And I honestly think this is kinda sad… I actually feel bad for you.

I hate to point out that you can’t actually give examples of good new games this year to support your argument.

Also your personal taste has very little to game development. Games need to make money, that’s the bottom line.

As for coming up with “New mechanics”, I can prove you wrong on the spot , I have tons of ideas that I speak about with my friends daily. If I can have those ideas then everyone else can have em. Play some Ark: Evolved , it’s a good example of survival genre being nicely reinvented.
Remember the creative spirit I was talking about… Yeah that game has it.
Also force-feeding your unconscious partner some poop is always a pro in my book.

Gotta love that strawman tho.

If you have these tons of ideas, why don’t you try making at least one of them a reality? Prove the entire world wrong. Go on.
I can actually name at least one good game coming out this year you know. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Oh and I can actually name a second one! Fallout 4.
Oh and even a third one coming out 2016 or so, what a damn surprise this is! For Honor.
Damn, I just did something I can’t do three times. I must be omnipotent to do something impossible 3 times.

No seriously, you are really damn biased. Stop only looking back and try to look forward for a change. If you do you’ll be able to have a lot more fun with the upcoming games.

I’m a softdev and am already working on real world projects xD One thing at a time.

Metal Gear is a sequel … thanks for proving my point further.
Fallout is a sequel.

That’s your subjective opinion xD If I’m biased then you’re double so. At least I’m shoving unsupported arguments down your throat.

Even a sequel is a game, but if you are a softdev you must know that already. You only asked about GAMES. And a sequel IS a game. It’s just a game that tells the story further where another game finished or left of.

guys guys, grinding a few levels wont kill you, it gets really easy to level after 38 lol then hard again after finishing all the quest haha

Starting the grind at level ~23 and then getting it easier after level 38 isn’t just “a few levels” though…

Well this conversation has reach the Nadir an has no more intellectual value.
And here’s why:
A- you just refuted your initial stance.
and
B- you don’t follow to your own moral code and set of standards, when said standards do not suit you.

Going in revers order.
Weren’t you trying to refute that “new games” didn’t suck ,hence as an example you bring up a Sequels to old titles that simply build new stories on top of the old mechanics ?

Following your FF7 logic , same can be said about Fallout 4 " PLZ PLZ Fallout 4 PLZ Fallout " . Same argument different game.

This leads to conclusion that your stance is ambiguous and only applies when you “feel like it”.
Foreshadowing random and inconsistent logic and dropping quality of future arguments.
I think it’s best to put it to rest at this point.

He only registered yesterday. I doubt he even knew the experience in game playing ToS. :I

A sequel is a game. And when it either freshly came out or is close to coming out it’s is, and I shouldn’t have to tell you that, a NEW GAME. It doesn’t matter if it just starts where something else ended. It’ still a new game. MGS isn’t MGSV. FFX isn’t FFX-2. MGS is MGS and MGSV is MGSV same to FFX and FFX-2. They are still new games, completely separate. It just so happens that these are sequels to other games, continuing the story. Fallout 4 is not a remake of an old game. It tells an entirely different thing than Fallout 1, 2 or 3 did. It’s just the same setting yet a different story, different characters, different environment, different quests and so on.
Also “For Honor” is not even a sequel to anything. Which is probably the reason why you ignored that one I suppose.

@Wenina Yeah, after you told me I just noticed that myself. I don’t even know why I’m bothering with a person THIS biased towards retro, who completely refuses to look forward and only stands still at one point. If the people don’t move, the games won’t move either. And THAT is the worst thing that could happen. It could get even worse than the old ET game failure and the crash of the game industry at that time.

Hence you completely destroyed your initiial statement.

I shouldn’t have to tell you that. ToS is a NEW GAME. It doesn’t matter if it just similar to Ragnarok and continues where Ragnarok has ended. It is still a new game, completely separate. It just so happens that it’s tiny bit similar taking the best from Ragnarok and putting its own spin on it. Hence ToS by your own logic is not a Remake and there is nothing to complain about. It tells entirely different thing , different classes, different environment, different quests and so on.
