ToS is relatively new, BUT

The current game mechanics reminds me of when Maplestory first started.

  1. Long skill cooldown
  2. Many slow weak skills
  3. Crazy infinite grinding
  4. Boring items and stats

After many years of constant revamp and changes, the game is much better, unfortunately it is no longer that popular because there are nicer games out there, a little too late.

Maplestory 2 is definitely a competitor to ToS, and it has more features and battle is more engaging than in ToS. The only nicer feature that ToS has is it’s art style and graphics, MS2 is way too cute for my liking.

I would like to propose to revamp the battle mechanics of the game and make the game more focus on instance dungeons. The open world concept is nice but it should be minimal. Make it more face paced and engaging, currently it is way too sloppy and boring.

Items need to be more interesting, and the storyline is nice but all over the place and messy. I fought with so many mini bosses but none of them left any impact. In fact I don’t even remember any of their names or what they do.

Mention Zakum, Horntail, Pink Bean in Maplestory and everyone knows

The game has potential but so many things need to be improved. I am appalled that nothing has been done to prevent bots and spammers though, how would the game be like once it is released to public?

A little disappointed as the game is similar to what Maplestory was when it was just released. Maybe the developers should exposed themselves to the other popular “anime” inspired games released in the past to understand what the industry has evolved now.

I’m glad the game isn’t stupidly flashy to appeal to anime kids. If you want a game like that, play a game like that. This game has a more ‘realistic’ fantasy style that I quite enjoy.

where was it mentioned that I wanted the game to be flashy?

And anime kids? pretty sure majority of the players here love anime

In every one of your points except number 3 potentially. You want super fast, incredibly powerful skill spam…basically an awful private server would appeal to you immensely.

Not flashy but fast paced.

Most of the skills in this game are not even remotely flashy.

I heard the population is pretty drab…that and it may not release in the US for some reason.

BUT HE DIDN’T SAY IT, NOR WAS IT IMPLIED.

Story bosses aren’t meant to be hard but once you start going for world bosses and dungeon bosses then that’s different (So many died with an LVL 81 world boss and it hurt my silver wallet and I am a priest). But something is wrong with the magic damage :cold_sweat: it will kill you but not physical attacks.

It failed in Korea but it might work in the US. Mabingoi is similar to ms 2 and it still up and running.

I want it to work, but they had to bang heads in the US when MS1 launched, even if it was popular here.

You do understand MMO are meant to be long not fast pace because lets use the old formula for a mmorpg.

Time + Commitment = Money

if you make it go faster means less time and less commitment to the game there fore less money for the company its not sleazy its not scummy its a system mmo are based on if you want a faster pace game go play something that is not a mmo.

Also it takes money and time to make new content unfortantly people with this mindset like you want to rush to the end game content then complain how there is none its ironic you skip levelling content to justify there’s no end content.

Only boss I remember is ponta but that is only because I’ve seen it 100 times which isn’t a good thing.

You are right this game should of been like diablo or poe, where you can play solo or queue up in a lobby to find people to play with, instead of RO may have done better to late now though its already marketed as an MMO.

  1. When I started playing maplestory no skill had any cooldown… Only after 1 or 2 year or so, when we finally got 120 and got the 4th job, there was the ultimate, which at first didnt had cooldown either…

  2. No skill in maple felt slow, only the ultimates… but that was after atleast 1 year after maple came out.

  3. Oh how I LOVED this part in maple. It was hella fun and all you do now a days is; party quest; oh look I’m lvl 9001.

  4. The items were actually all fun and goodlooking, say what, yes you actually saw what items you were wearing, so collecting a full set was fun. Even lvl 30 top/lvl 50 bottom and so on. Stats… you made them yourself with scrolls. So much fun 10/70/100%'ing your equips. I even made a 7x 10% best drop stats Omega spear, and that was WITHOUT the white scrolls or reset scrolls available.

So please tell me, when did you started playing maplestory?
(I even played in Beta and got wiped, been playing ever since then till 4th jobs came out…)

No skill cooldowns? Weird, never played Maplestory.

Even in FPSs you gotta reload.

fyi; pots didnt have CD either.

All of your points are completely subjective. I found Maplestory incredibly boring and stupid. I played back around 2003 (don’t recall the exact year) and quit because it felt WAY too childish to me back then, and that was 13 years ago.

You can’t simply say one game is fun and another is not just because you like the style of one more than the other. That’s literally just your opinion. If you like Maplestory so much, then play Maplestory. This game is thankfully not Maplestory, so stop trying to turn it into such.

If I wanted to play maplestory I would.
What killed it, was all the new ‘content’.
And where am I saying this game ain’t fun? I’m playing my ass off on this game.

All I was doing is responding to OP’s ‘4’ lame attempt to say ToS looks like MS (when it first started). All I’m saying is when MS first started, it was NOTHING like this.

Go watch some GvG vids. It’s pretty damn fast paced.

I dunno why you’re comparing this game to maplestory (which is an awful grindfest in itself) but if you’re so adamant that maplestory 2 is better why don’t you go play it instead?

I been looking for a decent anime MMO for years. I don’t mind semi-realism once in awhile, but when they are being mass produced out from Korea, I get tired of staring at characters all day that are supposed to look like kpop stars.

Now nothing is bad about it, but when EVERY single character, outfit and whatnot is inspired by kpop fashion when the game setting is supposed to be in medieval fantasy, it just starts to break the lore and feel lame. Where is the gameplay customization and fashion? I don’t want to create characters that are supposed to be based on kpop bands.

I have played over 100 different types of MMO’s over the course of 15 years (literally, I’ve gone down the list of mmorpg.com) and here is what Tree of Savior brings to the table:

  • A variety of classes and customization that isn’t gender or race locked. I don’t know why so many MMO’s think it’s a good idea to lock classes behind genders or races. It’s a primitive and stupid design choice.
  • The questing system is easy and basic enough to understand. Cutscenes and quest items are shared with the party so you can all complete the story or quests together. Not many MMO’s provide this and the ones that do have an awful cluttered mess of a system.

Example:

WTF is this cluttered ■■■■?

  • Grinding mobs in this game is actually fun and there are multiple areas to suit your tastes. If you don’t like a certain level 50 area, you can go to another level 50 area. Most kMMO’s have extremely linear progression.

  • The game allows diverse stat and skill builds. Seriously, there are so many games that don’t even let you put in your stat points or there are builds where 1 build trumps all. This game has so many different ways of playing and combinations that you can explore so many different types of play styles.

  • The music, sounds and art are very easy on the eyes and ears. Most Korean games have generic lame boring “field” music or “dungeon” music that are just uncreative and repetitive after a few minutes of listening to it. The art in this game is pleasant to look at compared to other kMMO’s which love to overdue the chibi bullshit or other 20 BnS wannabees.

  • The game is relatively balanced and most classes have their uses. This isn’t a game where everyone wants to be a warrior because they’re OP or a mage because they 1 shot everything. There are multiple classes that are good at a variety of things.

  • There’s a lot of freedom on what you want to do in this game. Compare to other games (like Aura Kingdom which is just 1 linear run from town to town, dungeon to dungeon) for an example: you are free to just play solo, dungeon with parties or quest to level up. There are a variety of ways you can level and progress. You could play the whole game without ever questing or play only just questing. It’s all your choice.

People complain about this game’s cash shop (which it doesn’t really even have a cash shop at the moment) when there are so many MMO’s that throw a friggin cash shop button right on the UI, just hoping you’re going to press it. Hell, games like Aura Kingdom had a god damn quest that was all about the cash shop and guess what? You were paying $20 per hair, $300 for pets and over $1,000 for enhancements. I kid you not.

Remember ■■■■ like:

$300 ■■■■■■■ founder’s pack? Are you kidding me, that’s as much as I payed for my PS4.

How about those generic ass MMO’s that just load you up with bulky ass armor and obnoxious glowing auras when you’re a high level?

I’m also tired of the many chibi MMO’s that have been pumping out like horrible deformed babies:

Because we all know we want to be 5 year old wielding swordsman and archers.

Keep in mind, that IMC never intended to release the game this early as they have stated they couldn’t promise a stable game. The only reason why they released the game so early was because they put a poll out and players voted for this game to be released earlier. This game has a lot of improvements to go through, but this game needs the community’s help. How a game like this gets a 6/10 on steam while cash grab games like Aura Kingdom gets a 9/10 is beyond me.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, what happens when you take alllll that junk, mash up it up one giant stinking stew of ■■■■? You get:

That’s my rant bye.

+1 for shitting on Aura Kingdom. Between farming for Eidolons and going through the absolutely cookie cutter story, the only thing it has going for it is the generic color splat and the environments, which even then you’ll see a dime a dozen. There are games I regret, and that is one of them.

Aside, that’s what I generally forsee ToS to be: A very healthy change of pace with how identical MMOs are becoming. Ofcourse, as things are now, they aren’t good at all- but it comes with rushing and crunching what was supposed to be a 3 month working period into 1 month. As Tree of Savior grows and improves itself on this build, the ratings will improve. Though it will take a combined effort from not only the players, but IMC to know what they should and shouldn’t listen to.

dont make a game focus too much on instance dungeons

Never, ever do that
