I know a lot of you are very upset with the founder packs, but as a MMO veteran who has been gaming for over a decade, this deal isn’t so bad. We are just used to playing games for free that we don’t feel like paying anymore. This creates a problem that we think we are entitled to receiving entertainment for free when we are not, because the game developers need money to produce. They need to get paid for their work - such a simple concept yet everyone seems to forget.
Some say they would rather pay $50 for a “triple A” title, but what makes you think this game isn’t a “triple A”? what defines it? Almost all of them have less than 50 hours of gameplay(you’d be lucky if you stay interested for that long even). Yet TOS will give you far more hours of gameplay than those eye candies. I mean I would never pay 80 bucks for Ubisoft’s assassin’s creed or $120 for EA’s star wars battlefront. Some good ones like Dragon Age Origin, Mass effect 2, Witcher 3 are well worth the full price, but in the end, they only last 60 hours maximum. So how do you define a “triple A”? or why do you think TOS is not worth the money of a “triple A”? because from what I see, I will spend far more hours on this than all those titles.
Lastly, I’d be thrilled to pay 50 bucks for play time with legitimate peers in a bot-free environment, even for only 3 months. I bought founder’s pack for ArchAge, and let me tell you, the beta experience was the MOST refreshing, exciting experience I’ve had since 2005. I never played after the release because I knew it would flop, and it did. I paid money for that unique environment, where everything was fresh, and every player was legit. I paid good money(think like $150??) for 2 months of ArchAge, and I have no regret. This $50 in comparison is a bargain. Honestly, I probably won’t be playing TOS after 3 months simply because I get bored or bots become an issue etc… but I will still have a blast until then. Besides, $50 is nothing - you can literally make that much working at mcdonald for 3 or 4 hours. You’ve spent weeks waiting on the forum, how about go out of the house for a few hours and come back with the game you’ve always wanted?
If you are young and don’t have much experience in MMOs, trust me, this unique environment will be worth $50.
