This class system is absolutely maddening

Yeah man, I know your pain, I wanted to do a build with Swordsman C3, Peltasta C3, Rodelero C3 and Centurion but the game doesn’t let me, that means this class system is broken and the game sucks

Oh I forgot to consider the game unique class system hmm ok alright that’s cool… go ahead devs. The rest classes were already made anyway, just hidden.

if they allowed that, everyone would do the same and the point of the game and having the need to create a party is gone, it’s basically gonna become a single player rpg game where u solo everything :x

If this game is to complicated for you, i highly recommend you to never touch D&D v3.5 edition, Path Finder, or similar games, lmao.

You complain it’s hard, imagine the players who manage to obtain the secret class, they will go ballistic without any skill simulator for them nor will they scare how they get the class because it’s limited, lmao.

I honestly like this systemic because it can make or break people characters, but giving it their own personality. But most of all, it reduce the number of carbon copy like the typical MMORPGs if you know what I mean.

Even at the highest rank, you have at least 8 endgame classes PLUS the hidden classes that require special prerequisites to unlock. Then consider the hundreds of class and circles combinations possible up until endgame.

Sounds like fun. I’m going for the gimpy style build base on lame gimmicks =p

one of the traits my friend hates about me, even though he knows I can easily play the max/mid build game. I even wear crappy gears just to look good. He calls me inefficient, and my reply to him is, “I’m a grinder, don’t expect efficiency from me =p”

Not really hundreds of combinations if most of them are useless combined together. Some are very specific that you need to use x and y to be good. The swordsman class also has the least amount of luxuries and breathing space compared to the other classes.

There’s probably more than 8 end game classes not including the hidden classes. If the trend of number of choices continues until end game then there’ll be around 6 end game classes per tree. So 24 in total not including hidden classes. Let’s use Swordsman for example. If the trend continues then Rank 6, which we have data of already, would have the same number of possible classes as the last Rank. Currently at Rank 6 you can be either Cataphract Circle 3, Rodolero Circle 3, Squire Circle 2, Corsair Circle 2, Centurion Circle 1 or Doppelsoldner Circle 1. Which makes 6 per class and 24 total.

It’s fun because it’s complicated. Well, if you don’t follow some specific builds/ the so-called right builds, I think you’ll enjoy it better. Also, you’ll have your own unique character.

You are right.

There are not actually 80 classes.
There will be a lot of possible combinations of skill-sets, but as it works right now, it’s impossible to balance out the classes in a way that all or most skill combinations are viable.

This will inevitably lead to a few selective builds becoming overpowered or simply better at their respective jobs than the other options.
I knew this from the day I took a first look at the class system. It doesn’t throw me off at all, actually. I enjoy stomping people who are in denial of such facts. But most important of all, it doesn’t change that this game is still going to be standing out of the crowd with it’s massive pool of interesting skills available. You can’t make every of those skills the meta, but you can very well make most of them viable enough to be used in specific builds, and if it may only be for niche purposes.

If they actually wanted to add 80 classes, they would have had to make each class separate or at least not intertwine them so much in a net like it is now. Your suggestion therefore makes sense, to let people fully choose the order of the class combination.
However, that’s not gonna happen. It would be extremely cool if it would, but it won’t.

The class system is by far not as great as advertised with “80 classes”.
But it’s still a good system in a good game. It’s not hard to see how fun playing around with the skills can be even if you haven’t gotten to test out the game yourself yet. It should become quite obvious just by watching gameplay videos too.

If games like Pokemon can manage to make a semi-balanced fun experience out of almost a thousand of different monsters available with only a turn-based fighting system, I’m sure it’s not that hard to make a real-time fighting system balanced enough to make it enjoyable with much less options available.

You can’t get the best of everything, that’s the interesting part about ToS’ class system. Choosing between Cleric C2 or Priest gives me headache, sure, but it’s fun because you have to think hard about it.

I think every game that has skill tree type building gives a few free skill resets. So I don’t think it’ll be that unforgiving…just that you’ll be doing trial and error. That’s how almost all games with “builds” are…some things work, some things won’t…some things you’ll do because you just enjoy it that way.

But sure, good points. I just wish that I could switch between the base class trees on the same character at will, that way I don’t have to make a bunch of different characters just to try things out…

Atention: RO and LoL games are mentioned in this post; if you hate RO stop reading and go watch dora the explorer or the next post.

When I was playing RO I always loved sorcerer class, It had many skills and options that made him a funny class. I remember it was also one of the classes that actually couldn’t have many skills because of the quantity; so you had to choose between spells and the power for each one. That calss made me realize something: You can’t be the best with any random generic skill set.

Why do I say so? Because every player has his own way to play; in my case I was always getting too close of the action and getting killed by the melee classes or even mage classes that had a better distance management. Then I started to change my builds, I made a battle sorcerer!!! It was horrible at first, no damage, bad skill placement, bad stats placement; but after some time I was the unique one in the server fighting with a book and giving battle to the generic good builds like full tank Rune Knight or full damage Assasin.

I think giving us the possibility to make a skill set that can adapt to OUR PLAY STYLE is the best thing they could do. You like being a mage but like to hit with autoattacks? Then go with Thaumaturge with some Crowd Control from Psychokino and Cryomancer to get near enemies. You like to be a Strategist and be always in a safe range? Go for the Quarrel Shooter and Wugushi AoE skills.

In LoL you can see this “Perfect Build” thing also called META; people will use a champion with a specific build more just because it has too much damage and is really easy to win. But there will always be people playing with the worst champion ever (cof cof Urgot, Taric, Poppy cofcof), learning to use them versus the other champions and they will have fun and win games because they like it and not just because they are following the random 12 years old kid in youtube that has 2 good videos with an OP build.

Remember that this is a game and you decide to have fun with your own style or will go hating in the forums and sticking to the full cryomancer + psykocino combo just because steparu is op and you don’t like not being op.

I respect your opinion.
But as for myself, the current class system is the charm of the game itself. It makes us think harder, find the best build that is fit with our playstyle (not the strongest all rounder build, it is impossible because each class has its own specialty).

@dracohandsome, I understand your point and agree with some of your notions.

But I don’t want ToS to make the same mistake as Diablo 3, where you can respec on the go with no restrictions… I don’t feel any emotional bind to easily achieved max level or build, nor I need to play the game again to check my theories - just respec.

May be this class system is overly complicated to some, but I believe it worth the effort to try it. I personally like difficulties related to character building. Others like difficulties with achieving rarest equipment. That’s why people play different games =)

As for inability to get any class at any time, for me this is just another game restriction. It makes me think = fun.
