The "PvP Channel". A happy road, even if you don't walk on it

Oh okay, so I DON’T agree.

But why? Are you saying you enjoy pvp but only if there’s a reward? Or are you saying you don’t like pvp but would be interested if there was a reward?

Well I don’t wanna waste time I could grind by PKing, when I won’t get anything.

Yes that’s fine but that just means that you don’t enjoy pvp for pvp sake. And you can still do that in pve channels. Why say no to people who want pvp channels? They can grind or just do pvp, it won’t effect you in the slightest as you’ll just be grinding in the pve channels. Also, though not a substantial amount, If 10-15 people are off in the pvp channel of your area then that means less competition for you pve grinding does it not?

No.

  1. Wasted server resources - Only PVP guys will go there for PVP not for grind
  2. If the exp bonus is good, everyone will go to that PVP channel, making the other channel useless.

excuse u say? u think PK is only for killing? zzz… maybe u havent tried PK system in other mmorpgs.

ill give u a sample, 12Sky!

if ur faction wins the war where u get to secure ur post by defending other players from diff. faction. thats where the fun is coming out in PK! if u won the war in 12Sky. ur faction will get 10% exp till the next war.

what we want for TOS is, we just want a PK channel.

its not all about killing. really. if u can handle others and secure the good grinding spots in pk. then the reward here is the good grind spots. yeah the rewards!

I think that’s a fairly heavy assumption and way over exaggerated. If Pvp players go to Pvp channels to Pvp then let them. It’s a Pvp channel after all, nobody said it was purely for grinding. It’s only a waste to you as you won’t be the one using it, but there would be plenty of others who would.

The exp/silver bonus was mentioned as an idea that may or may not be something everybody wants. It was initially suggested in another thread to combat the lower exp/silver rates from grinding as you would loose some grind time in pvp’ing. The initial amount was +5%, but some have suggested +10% and some +50%. There hasn’t really been a solid conclusion on that. I personally don’t mind there being no reward and would just enjoy the pvp for pvp sake. But if people really wanted a reward then I wouldn’t wan’t it any more than 5-10%.

Also you’re kidding yourself if you think everybody is gonna up and leave to the pvp channels if the bonus was good enough. I hope you realize this.

I think that this is an idea that’s fairly well thought out and would bring a fantastic dynamic to the game. Having the choice is key here. The logistics behind how it would work would come later.

Right now this thread should be used to show the staff at IMC Games that there’s definitely a demand for a PVP channel, providing at least some kind open-world combat.

Basically, if we show them that there are players that want this option in the game, I can’t see many objective reasons to completely shut the idea down.

I’ll be a firm believer of PVP till the day I die. You don’t have to agree with me, but if you don’t, be thankful we won’t be crossing paths on the same channel/arena.

Solid opinion. +1 to that. Just the thought of being able to choose what content you wish to play and not having to decide a permanent type from the start is a compelling enough reason for me to think it’s very much worth a go at.

i think 15 levels is a little small … levels don’t matter that much in TOS … so i’d say maybe 30 or 40 levels ?

Love the idea of a channel for open PVP. I wouldn’t ask for any incentives for it though. Being able to Open world Pvp would be incentive enough.

Could be, the numbers were arbitrary and based on someone elses initial estimate with no real in-depth thought or analysis. Point being though is there would probably be some sort mechanic that disabled people from pvp’ing at a certain level gap.

I dig this. I dig this until 20 characters.

@mtnielsen

Please re-read the first post.

@nekomiko

Well for one, it won’t be “wasted server resources” if it’s being put to good use by the playerbase. Secondly, that’s the target audience of a PvP channel-- people who want to PvP, which is the same with the Arena (People who want to PvP will go to the Arena). Finally, you contradicted yourself when you said “If the exp bonus is good, everyone will go to that PVP channel” which would mean the server resources used for it wouldn’t be wasted and more people would be going there to grind and not only just PvP (Not to mention that everyone agrees that if there even IS a boost, it should be kept small. This was also pointed out in the first post).

@Others: For any future responses, please make sure your post is thought out and not just disagreeing just for the sake of disagreeing.

My point is not contradicting.

  1. If the exp bonus is low, no one will have the intention to play pvp channel other than pvp guys. resources wasted.
  2. If the exp bonus is high, why not form a party to grind there instead of normal channel? Then other channel will seems useless.
how can u tell which exp bonus is good?
if there’s exp bonus in pvp channel, i will form a party with ress support class to grind in pvp channel other than the normal ones.

I agree. Nice ideia channel PVP.

It certainly looked contradicting to me, but that’s beside the point at the moment.

1 RE: You are assuming that assigning a channel to players who want to PvP is a waste of resources, no matter how many people use the channel and extra people it attracts to actively playing the game when they see that PvP’ing on any of these beautiful maps is possible. I was uncertain if this was what you were stating in your first post, but now that you’ve said it twice, I’m certain.

2 RE: The EXP Bonus should not be high; I stated this in the first post, other people have agreed that it shouldn’t be high practically every time this type of thread appeared, and I even stated it in my last response to you. This is what I meant when I said:

Please do not come into the thread without the intent of reading the posts.

The small one, because if one is added that’s too high, it will be unfair for the players in the regular channels who don’t have organized groups and setups for fighting against other players or just don’t want to PvP at all.

That’s good! That means that even though the boost is small, you will still go into it with a party and fight against other groups for your grinding spot. Not everyone will bother going on there to fight with other players over +10%, but enough people will to not make the channel a “waste of resources”-- you are one of those players who would try it out. This means that the channel will be put to use.

but i actually dont want to pvp. i just want more exp bonus. so i will be forced to grind in pvp channel cuz there will be higher exp :cold_sweat:

But note that because it is a PvP Channel, that you’ll potentially be getting into fights with other players often, even if you’re in a party. This means that your grinding will be interrupted and you could potentially be wasting up to an hour constantly fighting against Cataphracts charging at you and waves of Bokor Zombies, while players on the PvE channels are grinding peacefully. Just because you’re on the PvP channel, doesn’t mean that you’ll progress like the ones who aren’t.

fine then. as long as it doesn’t affect my benefits, its fine to have pvp channel.
although i think it will, ie, we can have 6 normal channels but in order to have one pvp channel, we only end up with 5 normal ones.
but anyway im not strongly against it.
u cant tell how it works before u try anyways
