If anyone could tell from reading, the Round-Up’s looking a little bare-boned and shorter than before. While nothing really happening this week is one thing (like really IMC, when is Cleric patch?), I’m also trying to shorten my Round-Up writing time by making it shorter and more concise, so please bear with me on this. Ever since the Goddess Patch, I’m finding it a bit harder to keep with writing my Round-Ups along with the memes and all while making time for grinding Unknown Sanctuary F2 and making my Monk stronger. I’m really behind on gearing up while other players gear up faster and new players get better gear with all these TP packs IMC sold. Add my miserable RNG and my insistence to stay F2P until IMC buffs Monk, and you get a weak Monk trying to minimize the time taken on the Round-Up for more time to get stronger.

The state of Tree of Savior at the moment isn’t leaving me in the best of moods to write the Round-Up with, frankly speaking, how IMC basically botched their first proper class balance patch after 5 - 6 months without one due to their own failures in that notorious April livestream. IMC spent all this time trying to right their wrongs to make the Goddess System succeed and, while I personally wasn’t the biggest fan of the Goddess System as content, I understood that the game needs the system in the bigger scale of things and there was a change in the IMC team so I endured the lack of class changes in hopes that IMC can get back and deal with class balancing (mainly Monk for me, any surprise?). So the Goddess System arrives and IMC spent a few more weeks making 5v5 TBL and 15v15 GTW a thing, and IMC finally serves the long-awaited class balance patches.
With that said, forget impressing anyone, the first set of class balance changes for Swordsmen was a huge miss with comments on those patch notes saying the changes weren’t enough, did nothing to help and even made things worse in some regard. A notable change includes changing buffs to require both weapon pairs in the Goddess System’s four-weapon system to be the same or something which is in direct conflict with one of the main benefits of the system of allowing weapon-restricted classes and/or class builds lacking options to choose outside their current builds. IMO the four-weapon system was one of the main perks of the Goddess System, but it doesn’t really have many new ideas that weren’t already in the game or couldn’t be implemented into the current game without this system (just needs a little tweaking). KToS players asked for this change to be reverted as this perk was a great solution to a number of class build problems, and IMC’s response basically says lol nope we were going to do this anyway with a ludicrous example like Highlander-Fencer-Hoplite stacking final damage to back up our decision type of reply. The changes have also made it to KToS, so its probably there to stay. The Goddess System has its pros and cons, and a huge perk of this 4-5 months labor of a system got backtracked just like that along with a class balance patch lacking any inspiration and excitement to keep players after a long absence of class changes/fixes.
Ironically, the game’s concept was initially built around freedom and customization with class builds while IMC restricts more and more options as time goes on. IMC famously touted and boasted “having 540 build options to choose from” during the creation of Re:Build which veterans knew was a meme from the get-go to convince players that they still have more build options than the Rank 1-10 system. Nothing really changed about the team and most veterans probably realize the Swordsman change was, as usual, for cutting down outlandish builds and make things easier to balance without offering a suitable solution. The new class, Luchador, was basically almost forgotten out of discussions a week after its introduction (INVEN doesn’t even have a category for Luchador yet LOL) as KToS players move on and bash the Swordsman changes instead. Heck, the current team’s class balancing efforts make the previous team that split elemental wizards apart and made the game-breaking Res Sacrae equipment look better in comparison.
So where I’m going with this … this month will be Cleric changes including another deat- uh I mean rework of what’s presumably Sadhu with no Cleric changes thereafter until next year (for 5 months I think …?), and the Swordsman patch last month is not sparking any confidence it will fix anything, especially the class I mainly care for, Monk. Though its not focused on Monk, this patch will probably be IMC’s last effort to do anything at all about Monk until next year if ever.
During the inception of this Weekly Round-Up Thread, I had many ridiculous reasons to start making it but I did have one clear aim for when I will stop writing AKA basically when Monk never gets a buff/rework or any hope by the time a year passed since the Round-Up’s inception (the Vaivora doesn’t count, it builds on Monk’s flaws and forces players into them) . I kept writing the Round-Up so far simply because I felt somewhat obligated to do so from this voluntary responsibility I put on myself (lol), but nowadays I do it more for the weekly memes 
. Even though there was a demand, there weren’t really any convenient spaces around for the purpose of sharing such information (maybe KToS Thread once in a blue moon, but it causes heated class discussions instead of relevant KToS information discussion), nor anyone who took up the task back then since everyone investigated on their own in private instead, so I guess I felt obligated to continue from to that situation. With that said, time has passed, and thankfully some players have stepped up alongside to help in their own ways, such as the Yorocademy as an information resource to help translate KToS rankings, Ebisuke bringing a ToS database back to life, players from respective servers who keep me updated on their servers, and recently a player has even started compiling statistics of all classes in WBR for convenient viewing, things I probably can’t do on my own.
Its not really a year yet since I started writing (I started last December) but if nothing changes this month, it’ll be next year before any potentially Monk changes. I’m making my Round-Ups more concise to make it easier for myself if I do continue and to prepare winding down in the worst case (IMC has to delete Monk to make me quit, I think). Voluntary work doesn’t run for long on half-hearted zeal, and other committed players have been more keen on taking up the mantle for such tasks (also ToS Magazine will probably never be revived I guess) so I feel like even when I stop, there will be others to pick up from where I left off. The information these players provide will be of more use and interest to the player base while memes are probably better shared on KToS thread instead so I feel like I can rest easy when the time comes. IMC probably doesn’t even know or care about this thread, nor acknowledge that such efforts to help IMC exists anyway

I really hope some things change since its probably unlikely that IMC will buff/rework Monk in non-Cleric months other than tiny changes but who knows, we’ll see. I just wanted to get this nonsense rant out with how the game is now, apologies for the spam.

Well well well, oh look what we have this week, IMC spending their Cleric month patch to actually buff DPS Cleric including Physical DPS Clerics instead of non-changes like Swordsman patch last month, and the intern actually looks like he has some understanding of the problems each DPS Cleric face in this meta. The damage boosts were needed as well since the damage that DPS-focused builds deal at the moment aren’t doing enough a trade-off in parties compared to using a support class or support build instead (Eg, full support builds or variant builds like Zealot-Krivis-Dievdirbys as compared to a full-DPS build).
Best part, actual proper Monk buffs 
(its ok IMC, you only took 6 years to do this)!!! Of course, its only just Developer’s Blog that hasn’t made it to KTest so I’ll withhold my joy a little more until IMC brings the patch over to KToS, but for now it may seem my initial plans for the Round-Up may change for the better.
