The Core Issue at Play

Everyone here has spent the last few hours tearing each other apart due to the founder’s server announcement. I’d like to offer a civil discussion on what IMC is doing wrong, and what they’re doing right.

I believe the CORE reason we are seeing as much of a backlash as we are is because of IMC’s decision to ignore it’s community without so much as an off the record apology. I’ve been watching this shitfest unfold, and I think I can safely say that most people don’t believe that the cost is the issue; instead they’re thinking about the underhanded business tactics used to push the costs on those who have been loyal for a long time.

On the other hand, I believe that charging money for the game is a step in the right direction, as it will give IMC more breathing room when it comes to updates, and allow them to generate a more accurate representation of their player base.

If you think I’m completely right or wrong, please elaborate in a sensible manner so that everyone - IMC Included - might come to learn a thing or two without the needless shitflinging that has been going on by the more radical members of these forums.

Friendly reminder that flagging is meant for real misconduct, let’s keep it civil.

What’s Right

  • The gameplay is still pretty much what it was in iCBT2, albeit with less highlander spam

  • The art direction, and soundtrack of course

  • Charging for early access affords them a smaller “stress test”, making it easier to polish the game for when it goes F2P

  • The game itself has come out very quickly in comparison to many MMOs we see developed

What’s Wrong

  • The underhanded business model easily used to turn the hype for the game into a cash grab

  • The high cost for a game that hasn’t even been released yet

  • The lack of necessary changes to core gameplay mechanics, or reversing progress on said mechanics, such as GvG, Open world grinding, and class rebalancing

  • ABSOLUTELY ZERO ATTEMPTS TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE PLAYER BASE

  • The division of the community through separate launch dates, and differing opinions on the situation as a whole.

  • Website could use a little more care

  • Soon ™ ceased to be a meme and is now a nightmarish reality

Don’t worry most of the community is out of flags already lol.

It’s like cocaine to some people. Try it once and you can’t stop.

The real problem is the three month waiting period. I don’t think too many people care about the money. This game is in Open Beta. They want to charge $50 USD for early access for an open beta. Three months is huge in MMOs. We have no information about server merging, what trading features will be put in places, what the cash shop is even going to look like or anything.

This just a cash grab. It’s extremely obvious. They want to get the players who were all excited to play “soon” to pay $50 USD for an unfinished game. That’s what people dislike.

The best description right here, it’s absolutely orgasmic.

As Rubiss said, the money is not the real issue here, is the cashgrab attitude. We are not getting ANY information on what’s gonna change from ICBT2 or KOBT to what we will have next week. It’s extremely bad on their relation to the players. People saying taht this is a full release, it’s not. We barely have any idea what’s in store for us next week so paying for it, at least for me it’s completely pointless.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d probably buy it if I had any info but or if I had anything else but “tp” that I can buy at any given time, is not like a preorder costume, a skin for your weapons or whatever, it’s just TP.

There is some information that was datamined.

They nerfed Highlander and Linker, looks like.

I can understand the frustration a three month waiting period could cause. I touched upon how this wouldn’t have been an issue if IMC would have just communicated that this would be the case more clearly, with a more sufficient time frame.

I don’t know if I agree to the cash grab portion though. It might just be denial, but I believe it might truly be a way to gauge interest within the community, what with the massive flop of kTOS. Albeit the whole concept was executed in the worst possible way. You can understand that some may take that $50 gamble as a way to give IMC their final chance to shape up or ship out.

Underlying issue being with no communication, we can’t truly know IMC’s ulterior motives. We’re stuck to our own speculations, and that never ends well.

Skyliner now has cooldown and this is already 3d nerf for Linker.

I don’t know what they are thinking.

I personally believe 3 months is just a slap in the face. I’d expect 2 weeks or something but 3 months? That’s cheap…

LEAVE BRITTNEY (linker) ALONE!!!

It’s very simple. If you don’t want to pay, please get out. When I see that announcement, my first thought was: “Alright!! Finally, I can play”.
I should never step into the forum.

This is exactly the kind of response I didn’t want. The criticism being directed IMC’s way is completely founded. Telling people to stop crying and eat their opinions is authoritarian and just generally an awful way to come to a compromise.

If you would like to elaborate why their voices should go unheard, I’m all for it. Just keep it civil, and leave your personal feelings aside.

My issue is not with paying or with the head start period. It does seem to long but i don’t really care. My issue comes with paying for a game making decisions i dislike.

■■■■■■■ up trade
■■■■■■■ up gvg

I can’t bring myself to pay them and reward them for those decisions.

Well honestly as I said before in another thread, expecting to fix 80 classes is pretty much impossible. But let’s wait I guess?

@Apple_Cider I think what upsets people the most is the lack of communication from the company itself, we got the infamous “soon” OBT and now suddenly people have to pay for the game. It’s just the disrespect towards their fanbase.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the numbers on the founders server plumet coming June.

Why would they get out? You do realize that criticism is the only way a company stays afloat, right? Diablo 3 is a very good example of this. The game was terrible coming launch and after more than a few patches the game got into a “playable” state, truth be told most people played it for the real money auction house. The same thing will happen here if the developers don’t listen to the community. Is not about the money. Please stop thinking it is.

This is an excellent point. A counter-argument could be made that the only way they can afford to change these systems is with the funds to do so as well. That, or perhaps the founders truly are the last line of CBTs, and the feedback during the initial 3 months will go towards that change.

they said open beta is soon, they never said it would be buy to play. everyone was expecting it to be free to play. everyone thought everyone would be getting to tr the game, but at the LAST minute they said its buy to play. plus 50$ for open beta? 99% of open betas are free, and if they are not, they only cost about 5-10$, but 50$ is too much. plus you can tell they just did that to be greedy, they got everyone al hype by saying open beta was soon but not saying anything about money.

So your core issue with the announcement is the underhanded tactics as well?
