The cities are a joke

[quote] Its like you didn’t even read the lore of the game. The world has practically ended and these cities are the last places where refugees from all over the world are escaping to in a hope to not die horribly at the hands of vicious monsters. Neither of these towns is supposed to be the capital, hell Klaipeda is supposed to be a dirty old mining town. If either of them looked like that it would completely throw off the mood and atmosphere of the game.

Oh and do keep in mind the world map we have rn is actually like 1/4 of the real one.

omg, don’t make me cry with all those beautiful memories of RO,

my first town was Alberta ( it was random assignment ) and there it was, the harbour city of Ragnarok which led me to become a Merchant and then Battle Smith

fuk iro was good

and yes i agree with OP, but what can we do? i can just try and love the game as it is now and hopefully in another year, this game will have a bright hope of new features

Holy crap really?
Got a link to the full map and screenshots from other towns? Pretty please…

There are plenty of socialization areas. Take tenet garden dungeon entrance for example. At least 50 players gather there to wait for dc during peak hours.

Disagree with all of these.

Oh and this is ToS not RO.

Not the same as a South Prontera like social place. It’s hard to explain if you didn’t play RO, but most MMOs will have an area where people just naturally gravitate to. What brought about South Pront as the talking area was dead branches I believe. It was right outside the city, so you could pop a dead branch, and spawn a random monster. More and more people would gravitate there because it was and still is always busy, even tons of people who would complain about the dead branches because they just wanted to socialize and not be murdered, lol. It wasn’t a place to do anything particular, just goof off.

With the way the maps are laid out in ToS I doubt that method would work to create a social area, but I hope something comes about.

OH sorry, i just realized that what i just said might be misunderstood. When i said " the actual world map rn" i meant the maps we currently have access to. But still, here. Just in case.

Do keep in mind that Tree Of Savior’s actual level Cap is Level 600 and the maps stop at level 400+ something. So there SHOULD be alot more cities/towns to come if the game ever manages to stay alive until then

Well… if you see the world map, Fedimian is the true central hub of the so far content released… Orsha and Kaipaeda are start points… and that is the current design flaw of the game… a MONORAIL THEME PARK ( so far…) when you reach +100 level there isent a real reason to go back to Orsha or Kaipeda (except few line quest or some NPC missing in Fed). There is a lot of space in current towns but no reasons to be there. (for example they shuld open a mercenary post in Kaipeda and Orsha or in a map near them like Slaullai maps so when newcomers enter the game the will meet the old players with fancy stuff and socialize, the ones who want to solo just keep riding the monorail, but at least people can meet somewhere)

The comparison betwen Ro and TOS is ok but people tent to forget that RO is like +15 years old… i think is the same concept, but with a different aproach, now… the big question is what IMC plan to do NEXT? ( next in like 6 months -1 year plan) and the (+years plan ahead) new maps? a new city for +300 content?, expand the lore south Kaipeda-Orsha with new NPC and quest line that will make upper level players revisit the towns? or they will continue the never ending road to the north, maybe until we finish the main story with a final boss?etc etc…who knows? new content means guild wars and end game dungeons stuff…, but we are going to war betwen us fo what? arent we all saviors? so if they want to keep the story in place they need to introduce factions or another lore related excuse ripped from other mmos etc etc… or the game will end like RO, outdated and melancholically empty because no real reason to play except chatting with a hand draw sprite avatar waiting for the next woe… XD Sorry my bad english, thanx.

I think even if we had a central go-to hangout spot like good ol’ south prontera, the game (TOS) is not optimized enough in order to display 10+ people without massive frame drops. Now imagine 20~40 people on the same screen, like you had at south pront, it will be terrible performance.

And that’s not even including frame drops from bot-spam or other players speech bubbles.

Factions would be nice. I don’t know why but i find the so called “Goddesses” super shady. I would prefer have Hauberk come back later in the game and join his faction instead.

Ragnarok Online was launched in 2002 and as stupid as it sounds it’s better than ToS (a game from 2015~2016). How can an outdated game be better in design than a 2015 game?

Just do a comparison between the mobs mechanics at that time, the diversity of mobs races, their attitude when attacked, etc. You will see that RO was BY FAR better. I’m not even considering MVPs(Poata mechanics are so FUN). Even tho, classes had their roles, DPS melees were a thing in RO, the opposite occurs here when MELEEs are just bad.

Class changes in RO had ROLEPLAY involved, if you look at class changes in ToS… it’s pretty disappointing… it’s like changing clothes… whoaaa i killed 2 kepas now i’m a Warlock!! .

All ToS brought was an incredible amount of hype, that in the end will be their downfall. They can’t handle the amount of players, that’s why the servers are laggy, they don’t have enough personal to fix the bugs. They thought a badly optimized game would be accepted by everyone. Every decision made by them is bad.

And now all we see is kToS dead and iToS going in the same direction.

Even if you come with the argument: ToS isn’t RO. Don’t forget that mostly of the hype around this game was towards the fact they were created by the same creator even the name Project R1 was kind of a connection between then. Correct me if i’m wrong.

About the cities, I feel nothing at all when I’m in one of them… Oh my bad I feel my FPS going to 0 ‘-’

After exterminating the demon lords from this world the goddesses now seek more power among themselves.

Each guild should pledge allegiance to one goddess (Saule, Lada, etc) and then guilds of different goddesses must fight eachother to provide power to their respective goddessess.

Every month the goddess who’s winning the battle gets a new artwork of their own with less and less clothes as time passes (because they get closer to nirvana & ultimate power so they dettach from material goods).

Let the battles begin

It’s all fine and good to criticize city design, but in that case, how would you design the cities? One quote from Staff_Julie (no longer with us apparently) that comes to mind would be that offering criticism without alternatives is going to get ignored.

Klaipeda lore-wise is supposed to be a mining town, while Fedimian gives off the “temple steps” (Old school, carved out of the mountain asceticism). These two particular designs come to mind if we’re going to get into any level of urban planning:

and

Would a garden city with the center being “social space” rather than a school be able to address your concerns?

Is this really your gotcha? My comparing a game developed by the same people as RO, to RO; when TOS is clearly, undeniably, unabashedly designed from the ground up as the spiritual (if not literal) successor to Ragnarok Online, is now an act of fanboyism? You are a fool.

The sooner you stop thinking this game has anything to do with Ragnarok the better.

RO was not developed by the same people as this lmao, the only common element is the producer (which has been part of A LOT OF OTHER KOREAN MMOS) and the music bands.

Having some common people is not enough to expect the same thing.
If you want RO go back to RO.

That said, our cities could use some social hubs.

Oh Prontera… The smell of Dead Branch, people running, bodies everywere and i still can hear my own laughter…

I always stop reading as soon as someone mention RO and just mute the thread, but this is so stupid I had to post…

Yeah! ToS, why the hell don’t your towns look good like other good looking towns after a global disaster ah! ah! you talent-less town builders…

why aren’t your towns like this

http://wiki.aeva-ro.com/images/f/f2/Morroc.png

totally the epitome of designed towns :expressionless:

/BS

now I can mute it…

Well early RO didn’t have monster skills or special AI /mechanics.

As did Geffen, and Morroc.

On the other hand Payon was a wonderful place for the atmosphere, and Juno was just amazing despite (or because of?) it’s strange layout.

Only some of them are, which is something that becomes very apparent when you browse the BGM folder. The ToS soundtrack is a lot more hit-or-miss because of that.
