Hey all,
I’m a player who played pretty hardcore for the first two months of release, took a break, and came back roughly a month ago to see the changes. Things have been going good, but I had a pretty bad experience today that I want to share with the community. I just want to preface this by saying that I’ve never had much lag or DC issues in this game (outside of the general poor performance of the game engine which we all know as normal) in my 500 hours or so of playing it.
Today on Saalus, my game was performing terribly, and I DC’d repeatedly, and when i logged back in I my lodge was completely different and my characters were in all different places. Thankfully I was able to get back in and fight through lag to get my cube.
Next I did Saulai mission runs, I queued up 3 times, waiting 5-10 minutes for each group, only to be disconnected at the end or sent back to the malformed lodge, and got commander load fail upon trying to reenter. I later noticed that one of my dungeon runs had been used up as a result of this. I’ve heard people complain of this, but it had never happened to me ( I thought their system was at fault or something local).
Then, I saw a shout for 240 dun and joined the party on my 271 DRG. They were level 240, (too low to auto match with me) so we tried to just enter the dungeon, but we couldn’t, because of that stupid error message you get when server capacity is at max. I couldn’t auto match with them either, and so the 5 of us stood around trying to figure out how to get into the dungeon to play together. After 10 minutes we just gave up and I decided to just solo the 130 dun and try to get my peta. Of course, I couldn’t enter that dungeon either, due to this server capacity error. I then decided to just to give up for the today, and forfeit my dailies.
My point in writing this is to highlight that this game is full of bugs, and when I see the patch notes for the maintenance tonight list just one bug fix, I am extremely disheartened.
Despite this games many positive qualities (style, music, interesting gameplay / class mechanics) I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this game in its current state. Most sane, modern gamers would never put up with these issues, and while I hope they get corrected sooner rather than later, I feel that these issues are so deeply rooted in the game engine that they can’t be addressed without SIGNIFICANT investment of resources by the developers.
Anyway, I’m not giving up on it, and I’m hoping that the game improves in the future.
See you in the tree.
j
