Suggestions and Feedback after CBT1

This is the view coming from a less experienced player in the MMORPG game, which only have the experience of playing Ragnarok Online (RO) and Ragnarok Online 2 (RO2) only.
You have been warned, read at your own risk.

Many people have discussed issues related to the skills, EXP progression, quest, classes and graphics. So, I would like to take this opportunity to touch on a few issues that I do not like when playing this game. If it is good, can be considered to improve the quality of this game.

I really love this game, and I also want to be useful to the game and community.
This is my honest opinion about the Tree of Savior, international CBT 1

List of items that caught my attention during CBT1

  1. User Interface / User Experience (UI / UX)
  2. How to search, find and fight with the boss
  3. Card System
  4. More suggestions to IMCgames

1. User Interface / User Experience (UI / UX)

A) Default Chat.

Whenever you change channel, chat box will get back to ‘normal’. It is very troublesome if you are in the party.

B) Current Map (M) too flat

Screenshot by @SeroZero

If you play in the map below level 40, you may not have difficulty using a map. However, most areas in the level 40 and above has several levels, such as upstairs and downstairs. You will struggle to get to a place in the map because you can easily get in the wrong way.

If IMCgames can separate the color and add more depth, as dark colors for the bottom layer, current color for the middle and bright colors for the top, will help the player to read the map.

C) Change the brightness level of the map (M)

I hope I can change the brightness level of the map (M) like in RO2. I want to play while the map is always open.
Also I can’t control my character while using mouse.

D) Party Member Icon

Not much of a problem, just need to change the color or use the new icon for the party members. Every time I check on map to find members of my party, I would be confused with the NPC.

E) Make it easy to select (click) the other players

I think I have a problem to click on other players. It’s like I can’t select them. Too hard to View, Trade and so on. I want every player who is clicked, has a mark on their head, and also HP and SP bar above beside my character info.

If it is still difficult to click on the player, at least I have the info HP / SP above that allowed me to ‘right click’ to view. I hope IMCgames will improve and enhance the quality of UI / UX.

F) Color and symbols used in item information

I do not understand why you use red for increasing the rate of attack (symbol) and green for less. A little confused. Also stop using Dash for bullet points, I think it is a ‘push’ attack rate.

Example

Red and minus (dash) was used as a sign of increasing attacks, a bit crazy.

G) Camera Zoom In and Out

I hope we can control more with camera.

2. How to find and fight with the boss

To be honest, I really like boss hunting in Ragnarok Online (RO). I hope I can hunt Boss in the dungeon, map or in the field.

In the Tree of Savior, I do not like how every boss needs to be fought in the ‘room’. It can only be accepted if you have a quest only.

I would have preferred if the boss has spawn time like in RO. I want to see the ranger, mage and other classes coming to hunt boss. They don’t need to have graves, and that will increase the difficulty of finding boss. Boss will appear at different times in each channel.

Just a suggestion because not everyone is interested in PvP only.

3. Card System

Honestly, before playing this game, I did not read anything related to the card system. And not yet read.

So I want to give an opinion on ToS card system as a new player (zero knowledge), because I do not understand the function of card use in this game. What I know, I can play card games with other people and the card can only be obtained from the boss.

Based on my CBT experience, the card in the Tree of Savior is not an item that is fun or interesting to be collected. Because gem has been used to help increase the stats of players. So I was wondering, what other function other than play cards? I see there are ‘EXP’ on the card but less information on how to use the card.

4. Random suggestion to IMCgames

  • Please consider Player Kill (PK) System
  • Reduce the use of SP for mage and cleric
  • Boost EXP of course.
  • Less blue mob or make it more fun. Lots of people talking about it now.
  • Insted of nerf, why not increase the amount of damage done by other classes? People actually prefer to see a large amount of damage done by them. Big damage is awesome. The bigger the better.
  • Rethink again about cooldowns time. Reduce for better. I love cleric!
  • Better AI on bosses or make them faster
  • More town to visit
  • Make more field/town/dungeon that we can’t use warp statue. (hidden fields, dungeon or town)
  • Hide all HUD so we can capture beautiful scenery from the game.

Leave your comment if you have any suggestion to improve this game.

Best regards.

Thanks for the feedback,

I agree with 1. especially E but I think F was fine, even though the color code was awkward.

For the 2. You have spawned bosses that are like, quests bosses and I’m fine with them being in an instanciated (not sure if it is the proper grammar though) zone. You also have field bosses, like in RO, which have a respawn timer and where everyone on the map can join and hit him in order to kill him. The field bosses are also marked on the map so it’s easy to know where he is on the map when he is alive and go hunt him.

I wouldn’t change any of that, the distinction is perfectly fine, the field bosses have nice rewards and you can obviously later into the game go on a boss hunt to get some nice loots etc…

For the 3. I didn’t try the card game so I can’t say much.

For the 4. I’m kinda mitigated with a PK system in this game because it could be messy very quickly even if it would add so much immersion and a nice feeling of a true MMO.

I think rather than reducing the SP use for mage and cleric classes, I think it would be better to decrease the time between mana regen ticks. With blue gems you can easily double or triple your mana pool, even by level 50. Plus, I think it add some extra value on armor pieces with + SP that I think is really interesting, the issue is the mana regen between fights, the regen ticks are horribly long spaced and that kinda ruin the experience. During boss fight you can and SHOULD (imho) use pots to sustain yourself.

Not gonna talk much about the EXP, a slight increase of 30 to 40% more EXP would solve (imho) all the issues of smoothing the leveling. I also really like the kinda “reset” exp that you get around each new Circle you get (level 16 then 46 then 86 etc …). So imho just a slight increase of EXP from monsters and cards would be more than enough.

I’m perfectly fine with the blue mobs atm, I saw a lot of thread talking about them though so I’m not gonna give any more discussion to the subject.

I think in a game like that, which kinda looks like an MMO/Hack’n Slah, you have to be able to have always at least one skill up so you can do anything else than your autos. In all honesty, I think that’s already the case, even if skills of C3 classes are way better than skills of C1 classes (obviously) doesn’t mean you should only be spamming C3 skills. I would kinda agree with a slight reduction of the cooldowns but anyway with the mana consumption of these skills even if you could almost spam them you would be out of mana very quickly so I don’t quite see the point. I think it is kinda balanced at that moment, even if I understand that some (many) people have issues with the rather long cooldowns. I think you should either reduce them a little bit (10 to 20% top) or remove them completely but then you’d have to rebalanced the whole game so I think it’s pretty good at that moment, maybe a slight reduction in the cooldowns would be nice but I’m fine if they keep them that way.

Not gonna talk about the towns nor the bosses AI even if after like level 60/70 some quest bosses start to become quite potent and you have to make kinda real decisions during the fight instead of just all-in the boss.

As for the last point, I don’t know up to which level you get during the first iCBT but when you start to advance like, in level 70/80+ areas you find less and less warp statues which is really nice imho. So I think it’s actually more than ok the way it is now.

Hope everything was clear. And thanks for your post.
