Description: My fanart is about the joy I feel knowing that TOS is still going after three years. It is, of course, a derivative work of [SA] Muniqui’s masterpieces, but it is also a deep and contemplative work that stands on its own, part anti-dirge, part anti-elegy, part joke, part love letter, part response to and echo of the emotional zeitgeist of the TOS player base throughout the game’s tumultuous existence. Whereas Muniqui’s “3 Letters 3 Years” is a solemn and condemning memento mori dominated by red space that brings to mind the evocative imagery of hellfire reminiscent of Milton’s dark poetry and Blake’s prophetic illustrations, my work is like a seed blown from a sarcastic branch of Warhol, a hopeful, life-affirming nod to the enduring power of capitalism and brand/pattern recognition. Ultimately, this work of fanart celebrates the very ideas of what it means to be a “fan” of TOS, the nature of “art,” and the graphic art of TOS itself, as captured in its highly recognizable iconography.
