State of the Game

I am here to drop some comments and suggestions regarding the game. As we all know the game isn’t in Beta anymore, so expectations are a little higher, esp with the upcoming f2p release.

I am a player in my mid-20s, I have a good paying job that allows me for a couple of hours of fun. I was once a teen who played MMOs for a few hours a day after doing my homework, scraping every last bit of my saved allowance to pay for subscription or cash shop items. I spend most of my money buying fashion and the likes, and the occasional boosts. Now I am working but I still play a couple of hours a day. I played a whole lot of MMOs- Tera, Rift, RO,RO2,Wow,Perfect World,Flyff,Rohan, Age of Conan off the top of my head. Some I reached the end game, some only til mid game.

Tree of Savior interested me, not only because I was a Ragnarok player but because I like the soft painting style without too much of distracting effect. Having lots of class combinations to choose from interested me, as well as the cooldown based combat system, sort of “Log Horizon” like.

With that said, I have a few problems with the game, not enough to make some players like me quit, but enough to massively diminish the playerbase in a few months and scare new blood from joining. At the game’s current state, I would still be playing it, but wouldn’t recommend it to my friends. And here is why

  1. Player trading- A huge way to alienate players is to make their options limited, and Player trading is on top of that list. People want to play with their friends, even as f2p players. They want to be able to share gears and drops, help them out when they are just starting.

IMC said they limited this to stop botters and RMT. In fact, they benefit from this. Why? It eliminates a whole lot of their competition! f2p players will be hardpressed to sell their stuffs, so the RMT and botters, most of whom have tokens they purchased from RMT and botting, will hold majority of the supplies. They now control the economy. Monopoly is a major factor in price inflation (economics 101)

  1. Trading in-game currency has to be enabled- Again, same argument as above, hurts the players more than botters and RMT

  2. AH/Market retrieval- For a game without vending, and trading, waiting 48 hours to get your stuff is killer. Merchanting is bad, you cannot buy and sell effectively because of said limitations. Cutting it down to 12 hours will help a lot. Option to auction will do wonders.

  3. Status- When you are frozen, its a sure death, esp in PVP. TBH CC lasts too long, melee classes are already at a disadvantage since their attacks can miss and they can be dodged as well. Monsters inMage tower and Crystal Lot 2 2F for example can freezelock you to death.

Now these are the game features that I feel could be improved, but will still be okay if nothing is changed

  1. Questing vs Grinding - Grinding right now is bad because of the spawn rates, just imagine when f2p opens. Spawn timers should start when the monsters are killed, so as not to penalize players for being strong.

You could argue that you dont need to grind to level up, that’s true. However there are a lot of people who want to kill stuff more than run around and click NPCs. There has to be a viable option to do both.

  1. Dungeon limits - Dungeons are in an ok spot, 2-3 times a day is balanced, however there are people who want to experience dungeons the whole day (hello thanatos tower questers). It would kill the fields if you make it the case, but having unlimited runs to SOME Dungeons and making those dungeons have a bad exp/difficulty ratio but have great drops. That way you can choose between limited dungeons for grinding, and unlimited dungeons for gear hunting

  2. Headgears - Moar please! I want a different look each day thank you very much

I fully expect some people to downvote this, saying go play my own game, or that only Token users matter. People underestimate the importance of casuals in games like these. Some token users like me know their importance to the economy and health of the game. IMC will make a profit when these f2p love your game enough to buy a few stuff here and there, and it only happens when they dont feel alienated and stay. Trust me, if they loved your game, they will find a way to purchase stuff, I should know, I was like that when I was a teen.

I really wish this reaches the Devs some way. When F2P comes, I want to be able to recommend this game, with all my heart.
