Some truths about game industry and why IMC failed

Stop feeding the troll.

Granado Espada is an IMC game, so prior to asserting that people may be trolls, try to catch up on what they were talking about.

That’s why I bought the most expensive pack for Overwatch its worth throwing money rather than this Sh!t of a game  we all know TOS was just a cashgrab from the moment they posted that overpriced DLC that cointains crap items. I could buy better games with 35bucks why the hell would i spend it in this trainwreck of a game.

Reading comprehension please.
I wasn’t even talking about GE, he said that ToS is a merely copy paste of RO made by IMC.

Where did he even remotly say anything like that ? Talking about comprehension skills

Indeed, it’s rather unsettling that IMC think they deserve to charge players double the price of an AAA finished game while they don’t seem to even work on the game anymore… Perhaps they beleive “Double Pay Earn” works IRL

Complex games don’t do well here, either.

I fail to see the OP’s point when the most complex games are the most niche games here in the west.

Just look at Path of Exile, it has a diehard loyal following, but it’s small. It’s one of the most complex games out there and it’s not “pretty”. It is highly profitable because of the diehard fanbase giving them tons of money in supporter packages, but it’s far from “popular”.

Using the same example, just look at Diablo 3. Diablo 3 is a shell of a game, it has zero complexity and depth, it is all based on looks and instant gratification, the exact opposite of PoE. Anyone that plays D3 “hardcore” can only play for about a week straight maximum (more like a few days), because the game at its core is very shallow. YET It’s more popular.

So this is BS, I do agree the markets are slightly different, but not as much as the OP is saying.

Geez, what’s with all those hate…

I agree with some of what you said but let us analysis this sensibility without purely bashing IMC like little kids.

First of all, by no way I am protecting IMC. I think everyone would agree, they did mess up quite a bit. But let us analysis both the pro and con of what they did.

1. IMC choose to publish the game on their own in the international market.

For this, I would praise their courage. I am sure we all know how different is the western gaming market vs asian gaming market. There is a huge cultural different, and for IMC who is an-inexperience publisher, it is expected there will be lot of problems.

But what does this mean for us? Because IMC decided to publish on the international market personally. We were able to play this game much earlier. Think back guys, most Asian games take at least half a year or more to get to us. Think Blade and Soul etc.

If this didn’t happened we would still waiting for the game atm. It also mean that we can get content update much quick than ever and we are able to tell straight away to the developer (IMC) of our concerns without having to go through a third party publisher.

Also, we are now able to request for changes specifically for our culture play style as they are directly listening to our feedbacks.

Of course, this is not without flaws. IMC been in-experience means that they will make mistakes, and alot of mistakes too, they would need our knowledge and understanding of western culture, to provide them suggestion to solve many of those problems. Remeber. IMC is a Korean company, Korean’s culture are much different from us and IMC won’t have much understanding of what our culture is like. And they might also got their hands full on the Korea side of the game too.

Many of the issues that we are experience is probably a result of those mistakes. But you guys simply throwing hates aren’t helping either. I am sure all those hate is a result of wanting the game to succeed, but can I suggest rather than hating, provide suggestions and constructive criticism instead?

To IMC and it’s staffs, especially the community team: I am sure you guys are trying hard to make the game and the community better and all those hates are disheartening, but please look at this at another angle. Everyone just want this game to succeed, It is such a great game, that’s why everyone is angry.

2. Server issues
The most complain I can see are lags, can’t access dungeons etc. Mr Kim had already explained this and I am sure they know the problem. I am sure they are as frustrated as you are, so I would suggest to give them some breathing space on this issue. I am sure they are working hard on it. They manage to rescue Command Load after all.

3. Communication / Lack of Communication issue
Most complaint are probably because of IMC’s recent of lack of communication. For this I agree with the community, IMC please provide us with more insight on what is going on. I would suggest making more frequent announcements, I know you guys are busying doing fixes, server issues etc. But do take a moment to make an announcement, even in forums every now and then updating us whats going on would be nice.

For example you can post that you are having issues with DDoS, or make a friendly announcement that one of the staff will be leaving us, and the issue with steam etc. You guys had been announcing your plan on fighting bots already, just need more communication as most of us are agitated waiting for a response.

To everyone else, there is a lot of business issues here. It’s like not you paid IMC $120 and they can magically fix all the issues, or hire extra staff. As all those, even hiring staffs take times. Also they can’t just randomly make announcement either, as wrong information is worse than no information. A clear example is when they announce Telsiai server been open to f2p then have to withdraw because of server issues.

4. Game Contents
What class are in the 8th ranks? No pvp? updates? Well guys, IMC already got their hands full on all those other issues, there is no time to deal with these issues. New classes are probably either still been developed or not ready yet. Lot of class restriction we are having I am guessing are either balancing issues or the animation isn’t created. For example, the skill restriction on mount is probably because the animation isn’t there. I notice that my Schwarzer Reiter using it’s SR skill with bow equipped doesn’t look right at all.

Opening pvp will causes more issues, balancing, bugs, and with server not fully stable yet. You guys want to pvp under lags?? I suspect there will be more complaints if they open up pvp arena.

To IMC, again most of us are just agitated as many are reaching rank 7/8 and are concern with whether the new class etc will affect our current builds. It would be great if you could provide your idea/insight on this issues as well.

TL;DR - Can we all stop bashing IMC and start provide constructive criticism like a sensible person? Give IMC some encouragement for trying and offer valid suggestions. It’s a lose lose situation for both IMC and us if the game end up dead, I am sure we all want the game to be great so let’s help IMC instead of hate.

There you go, enjoy.

Which extra credit video gave you these ideas? I’m a long time fan of theirs and I don’t reach the same conclussion you do, not even close.

The way you talk about blizzard and riot makes me believe that company size & budget is not an important factor in your “analysis”.

Also Julie sided with the community and called out staff in extremely unprofessional ways, her losing that job is a lot more related to lack of proffesionalism than bringing certain topics up. You can bring touchy subjects up, you just have to be professional about it.

Last but not least, please provide some data to back up one of your primary premises; that the east market is considerably more susceptible to pretty stuff than the west market (real data please, tyvm)

if you think the west is -not- full of mindless consumers who just want the “shiny”, then you’re critically mistaken.

once again your view is critically flawed.
it’s not about the CEO/devs caring or not caring about the community. it’s about the simple ratio of people. 1 CEO or Lead Dev to 25,000 current players of ToS.
if they tried to respond to that personally, it would be -more- than a full time job. this is why you simply require people who’s full time job IS simply to communicate with the public.

also, the ceo/lead dev actually posted quite a long response on the forums just the other day.

lmao, “blizzard” + “f2p games”, ok sure.

you have no idea what you’re talking about. you’re crying about the game being a cashgrab simply because it was made by a small company and it didn’t cater to everything you personally wanted from it.

Yes, 2002. We’ve unfortunately passed that by 14 years so you’d except things to change, right?
RO had one launch, and one launch only (beta was much more limited), when ToS has had many open and closed beta sessions, and even pre-release time on f2p and trough these months the server have been shite for more than a month.

Yes, Ragnarok online managed to drop to single digit fps in 2002 from over thousands of players burning holes into the sick nasty 400MHz Pentium II’s.
Meanwhile ToS manages to do the same in 2016 with 6 players hitting a big mob, the difference here being the big jump from 400MHz to 3.0GHz/4.0GHz i7’s/whatever you people use.

The CEO’s plan is to get the maximum profit with minimum effort, just like the previous game they made, Granado Espada.

bingo

Then why is TP still not available for purchase and why are they still developing content and bug fixing for the game over @ kToS at a steady rate?

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Uhm its 2003 not 2002.

And why is the game still in a dumpster state after almost a year after ktos release? Nearly every change they’ve done so far is basically putting the game back in a state where it should have been released in the first place.

That’s how I understood it, and that’s the point?

Profit was calculated in short terms. It can’t survive the present. Players (your they) regret.

Why would they care? LOL

I don’t even know the purpose of this long post. Yup… whether its true or not from what you stated, and…so?

Even IMC failed its not your business. Truth or not we are just players. Just play the game if you like it, or quit it ignore it if you don’t like it. You post this topic does not benefit any parties and just making flame in this forum. Get a life buddy.

"I won’t be surprised if they delete this, but it doesn’t matter because it will be posted on reddit too."
Dont get the point of this either. You scared of wasting your own time to write such long troll passage? Or just want to show off your “knowledge” and professional analysis on game industry? Lel… Yup you should post it on reddit. Dont let it get wasted buddy. Long essay and IMC shall give you marks on writing this essay. :grinning: Ops IMC don’t even care.
