It does matter if you can get your hands on that purple lvl 40 shield with +40 mdef. Also if we assume trading will be disabled as it is now then he/she would have to wait until 90 and try to get it from dungeon.

I highly doubt we will have that model here but we never know, and yeah a shield that provide MDef is of great help, and at later levels when he/she hit Royal Mausoleum then try get hands on Sage Wall if he/she plan on going support or arde dagger from dung90 if assault.
