Some maybe-dumb newbie-ish questions

EDIT: The questions below got answered (thanks a ton)! My new questions are down here (link). Thank you for helping!

Hello everyone,

I am playing since a month now and my character is level 320 (but still equipped with the timed newbie-gear…), but as I feel I am not using half of the game, I have some really weird questions.

  1. I am not a native English speaker (sorry for any mistakes) and I don’t really understand what “carry” means in this game. Sometimes people shout “Saalus Carry” in shout-chat and I don’t understand how that is different from normal “Saalus Party”.

  2. I read in the latest patch that the “regular” field boss cards drop in the merc missions now. The thing is… nothing EVER dropped for me in a merc mission. Since the patch, I ran Catacombs each day and nothing except for the useless cube at the end ever drops. And I started killing everything, including the other bosses instead of just the final one. Are the cards in the useless cube or something? I only got regular materials from there so far. What enemy (boss?) drops the Helgasercle card? Or maybe I don’t get drops because I run solo?

  3. I have a very, very bad computer and can only play solo since as soon as someone else is on the screen, the game basically freezes for me until they left. This means I can never do field bosses and the one time I tried Saalus, it took me a whole hour and was very, very unfun. Same with instanced dungeons. This means I am missing a lot of things, I suppose? I only level in fields… I am now running into more and more problems as the high-level maps have more players on them. Is there any way I can do things like Saalus solo in a reasonable time (I’m a Krivis/Taoist build)? Is there a place for Level 320+ players without many people? And what am I missing by not being in a guild? Basically… I would like to know how much game content will forever be locked for me by not being able to play with others.

  4. I read on Google that instanced dungeon cubes are re-rollable and I really need to level the few cards I have. Yet when I run one of the instanced dungeons (lower level, the higher levels are too hard to do solo) I cannot re-roll them afterwards and also there’s almost no card drops in them. Was that changed and google is just not up to date?

Thank you to anyone who answers!

Carry - you do most/all of the work, hence, carrying other’s weight.

rate is very low

they used to be rerollable before the dungeon revamp

As for the nature of Saalus (boss killing), ‘carries’ kills every boss pretty fast.

The thing is, although i can’t confirm this (please research), but the low chance of getting cards may have deemed you unlucky.

what is your pc specs? have you tried addons that maybe can boost your pc performance?

The thing is, almost every new content encourages team play, which you are limited at.
There’s this content Challenge Mode, Raid Dungeon, World Bosses, etc that needs teams to accomplish.
Having a guild can be ignored, but it can help you make parties easily to accomplish the said events above. There is also Guild Raid which is like fighting a field boss but it’s exclusive to your guild.

No, they are not re-rollable anymore. A run can give you at most 6 cubes (at 100% completion). Since the major dungeon update a lot of items/recipes are added to the cubes, therefore making the cards harder to drop.

Thank you very much for the really fast answers!

I see, thank you very much. That basically means it’s just a fast party run, right? A pity, I had hoped it was something maybe I could do (like a party splitting up so that no other character would be on my screen).

Alright, then I was just unlucky… can every boss drop every card, though? Or just the last boss (which ends the mission)? Or do I need to hope for a specific boss to spawn?

Ah, that’s a pity. I did three 6-cube runs on the L50 difficulty yesterday and only got one card out of the 18 cubes, so it’s really not a good way to gather cards, then.
What is considered the fastest way to level your cards, then? Before the server merge I did Dullahan and a lot of cards dropped from his cube, but since the merge a lot of people are waiting for him, making it impossible for me.

I only have a Windows 7 business laptop, 4GB RAM, 2,2GHz, GeForce 940M. And I sadly cannot afford any upgrades; the laptop already was a gift. So unfortunately, nothing there is going to change.
I am already using a laptop cooling fan; the game tended to overheat my laptop and at least that problem got resolved.

This is what I feared. :frowning: I figured I was stuck having to buy everything from the market and the fact that I cannot do stuff like Saalus on my own in a reasonable time means I also don’t make much silver - since I ran out of quests, I make maybe 500k a day. That’s not very much, I guess. Or maybe I just get bad drops or a Taoist is not the best class for getting money.

At any rate, I really, really appreciate the help! Thank you!

For dungeons, you get more than the old way:

  • In the old cube system, you could roll 2x after opening 1 cube, meaning you could get 3 items from each cube, and since you run 3 times per day (taking into consideration you got token buff) it would be 9 items.

  • In the new one you don’t roll, in the counter part, you get 6 cubes per run, so in the end you get 18 items from 3 daily runs (again, 3 if you got token buff).

About your PC, as @advbd said, post your specs here, then again, what I can tell you to do is this:

  • Go into the game folder: Steam\steamapps\common\TreeOfSavior\release and open the file user.xml (can use notepad, wordpad or notepad++ <— this one is recommended).
  • Find the following options: their value might be at 99 or 100, change to whatever you think would be good.
  • Take note that DrawActor are the characters, so at 100 if you are in a place with 100 players, it will show all characters on the screen, at 15, it will lower the amount to a max of 15 characters. The same is for DrawMonster option, if you lower, you will see less monsters on the screen, but don’t get confused here, the rest that don’t appear are still there, hence, sometimes you will see yourself getting hit by invisible things.
  • Also another thing to consider about DrawActors, it doesn’t affect party members, so in the dungeon you will see all the players.
  • In-game, you can turn off these marked settings:
  • Just one note that, See Basic Character info turn off the rest bellow till HP/SP shown, if you want to see names and what not, turn it on and only tick the options you find useful.
  • I won’t suggest you to turn off Other Chars effects or you won’t see heal tiles or other tiles, and Background effect turn off some gimmicks effects like Main Chamber quest line candles.

It’s a good machine, except for the low RAM, I don’t see a problem on you adding more 4GB on it, but it’s up to you.

Also, since it’s a laptop, it does have an Intel GPU in it, you need to setup something else too or you will be running on a low end GPU instead of Nvidia, for that you go on the Nvidia Control Painel > Manage 3d Settings > Change Preferred GPU from Automatic to Geforce 940M.

That way, any game or software that use high end graphics or the like will use the Geforce instead of the built-in Intel.

Wow, this was a big help, thank you!

Oh, I see! Well, that does sound a lot better, then - though it also said on google that before, basically every drop was a card. I really need cards…
And I do have token buff right now. It’s a bit weird, I had only a week or so left from the new player tokens and when the merge happened I was up to 60 days all of sudden. Not complaining about it, though…

Wow, thank you so much! I put the DrawActor thing to 15 now, given that I still need to see shops to fix my things ever so often, even if it takes forever to load Orsha up (I’m not even trying Klaipeda).
Monsters actually give me no trouble at all, I never have any monster lag. The one time I tried Saalus Uphill it lagged slightly when really everything was full of monsters, but it’s really just the players giving me issues.

Well, that’s a pity, then. Means still no party for me, though maybe I could try field bosses alone? Not that I expect to win or anything, the one run-in I had with one at random while leveling where it spawned was… fast and painful, lol.

I actually did the ingame settings a long time ago (and did run into trouble when the questline candles didn’t appear… or the Miko quest spirits. THAT was horrible). But thank you very much for mentioning them again, I should have added that I had already done everything I could ingame.

Well, that’s 50 bucks I don’t have. I’m disabled and need to pay for my meds before I can afford anything like that, which means… I never can afford anything like that, lol. I can barely buy enough food for the month.

I did that now! I never heard of that before, thank you so much for that tip, too. I wonder if it will change things and the game will run better now. It definitely ran on the intel so far.

Buy 5 albums from the market (or scum for them), create a party that you will name “5-album party”, shout in chat linking your party name asking for 4 more people with 5 albums, go into a field, summon 5x5 bosses… and at the end everyone in the party walks away with 25 cards.

Thank you for the tip, but I can only do things solo because of my computer issues. Can I beat the bosses alone, though? Level 330 sounds steep. I had an album drop before, but I was too scared to use it so it sits on the market now.

Also - actually a good point - I saw people link things in the chat before. How does one do that? I haven’t figured that out yet… which is likely very embarrassing.

That would be a waste of time. You do the 5-album party to benefit from other party members’ albums so you get 25 cards from 5 albums. Otherwise you’re better buying the cards directly from the market instead of buying albums…

They changed the drop rate for cards if I’m not mistaken, but Dun 50 would be the one for cards.

You can still see the shops flyers tho.

If you are not well geared, even so, I doubt you will survive, I went to get a party in one yesterday and got 1-shot even before looking properly to the boss lol.

What you can do is, check the cards price on market, check the albums (by colors since they have different pricing) and trade albums for cards, that way you can Lv your cards without relying on parties, the albums drop from Hunting Grounds, you can also have the chance of getting good gear to sell or trade for Cards and also Blessed Shards, although I recommend save the shards for end-game, that way you can start upgrade your weapon of choice.

I forgot to mention to turn off Steam Overlay:

That’s what I tried to do, but no one sells the cards I want to use and even the cheapest trash cards I need as exp fodder for the ones I use are like 220k. Which would mean I could afford maybe two a day and nothing else. I guess I’m not getting anywhere anytime soon, haha.

I mainly got Talt from the dungeon cubes. Basically, I had one card in 18 cubes, which kind of sucked, but I suppose if it’s the fastest way, that is what I will do.

Ooooh! That is different, then! Might as well set the value to 0 then! Thanks a bunch!

I did well not using the albums, then. :stuck_out_tongue:

No one ever sells the card I want (Helgasercle, and I’m not even talking about the legendary one) and the one album I had drop was purple and it’s sitting on the market since days (priced below the “fodder card” price). Ever since the merge happened, card prices went up quite a bit.

That’s interesting! So far, I didn’t get much good stuff from Hunting Grounds. Just the “usual” gear that drops around the level, definitely no shards and just a few different gemstones (Ruby, Sapphire) and a Mythril Ore here and there. Maybe I just am not at the “good” HG yet? Or just use the wrong ones? If I go HG - leveling in normal dungeons is faster - I usually was at Rancid Labyrinth lately (the lower floors have too many mages and archers and are generally too tough for me).

EDIT: Steam overlay turned off! Thank you for telling me about it, I have no idea what that even is/was, but maybe it being gone will help me more!

Hunting grounds are almost the same, altho, the lower the Lv the higher the gear drop rate, but the rest are all the same, shards are the hardest to drop, but still drop in any of them.

I generally farm at Rancid, even on my 350 Summoner. But the drop amount is kind weird, sometimes it drop stuff like water, then the next time I go in there it drop barely something, except the usual crap Mithrils and the like. I also have some issues with lag there, mainly because of the freaking bots.

Steam Overlay is the built-in browser from Steam, it will cover the game screen with useless crap tbh. Some games tho require it to buy in-game stuff (Path of Exile I think need it to buy cash shop money or some sort of pack).

Oh I see, thanks for that info! I didn’t think shards could drop there - is there a list of things somewhere? I didn’t see one on tosbase.com and now I wanna know if the really expensive stuff (Practiconium or something like that? I only see it for millions on the market and dunno what it even is, lol) can also drop - so I guess this will be my place of choice. I guess I should better try to level in the three days I have left on my newbie gear, though, and then spend my time at Rancid.

Weird, I play a lot of Steam games and never ever had it pop up or disturb me in any way. But I guess it’s good that it’s gone.

I set the player value to “0” now. Maybe that means I can now go fishing in Klaipeda. That would be nice, I hate running to the other spot in the middle of nowhere. Also getting to the instanced dungeons will be easier now. :stuck_out_tongue: Since I will have to run them for cards, I guess. And then hopefully also discover what’s going on with the (non)drops in the merchenary instanced dungeons.

Always up-to-date:

https://tos.neet.tv/

Check there, you can search and pre-make some classes builds there, there’s a bunch of info, when you open the HG map, almost at the bottom of the page you will see a Global Drop option with a + and the list will show.

Ooh yeah, I saw that site before and didn’t understand it. :see_no_evil: As in, what do the numbers on the Global Drop List mean? For shards, it says “5.0 % × 0.9 %”. Is that like… every monster has a 5% chance to drop a global drop, but only in 0,9% of those drops will it be a shard? I thought for a long time it would be like that, but there’s definitely no 5% drop rate of anything going on there.

Thank you for all your fast help, I really appreciate it!

They changed that recently, but I wouldn’t doubt that be the case, or that may be related to the new stats from gear called Looting Chance.

The stats affect any drop with few exceptions (event items and quest items).

you actually have a better laptop than me, and i can do World Bosses.
I do not know startup applications you have in your pc, but i must tell you ToS eats a lot of RAM and it’s really felt on a pc with 4GB RAM, so close all other applications that are not in use if possible.

On the other hand, try to use this addon (warmode): link

What it does is basically to toggle all skill/environmental effects(including heal tiles, unfortunately) to on and off.

If you are up to it, just do this steps:

  1. Paste it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\TreeOfSavior\data
  2. Start your game.
  3. To Activate (Skill/environmental effects to OFF) press ALT + Minus key/underscore
To DeActivate, press ALT + Equals/Plus Key

That’s also really interesting - I am currently wearing for the first time an item with “looting chance 106”, so maybe it will help. I also thought most rare drops were DPK - though I definitely can’t confirm that, around three weeks ago I spent eight hours nonstop murdering Saugas for the Motor Drive (I love collections, they’re my fav thing in the game) for absolutely nothing despite tosbase claiming it’s DPK between 2500-3000 Saugas.
Really odd, but eh.

I close everything - including my browser - when I start the game, otherwise I can just forget about it all.

I do believe I need my tiles very badly…not the heal ones, as there’s lots of them, but as I am 99% dependent on using Ein Sof to keep my SP full and that’s a single tile I already miss a lot when it’s visible, I really need to see those.
But heck, I might try it out if things are still rough. Given how I’m replying here the last hour, I haven’t tested yet how much my game enhanced thanks to the tips I’ve gotten here. I’ve downloaded it now and will test the game without it first and then try it if I need to.

Thank you very much for the tip!

DPK was removed from the game, if it still in, maybe on CS cubes, or even the dun cubes.

My Thauma have 4 pieces with 100+ LC on them, the amount of stuff is good, obviously, mostly are blues and purples, and lots of gems, mats and albums. And since it’s a thauma I double the drops with skill lol.

Oooh, well, that explains a lot then. But I think that’s actually a good thing.

Yeah, I suppose not playing a class that has drop enhancing skills is pretty bad, but eh, I really like my Taoist.

I have to bother you again, though: The game overrides my setting of how many players it should load. It sets it back to “99” every time I load the game. And I double-checked if it really saved after I edited it. It did. I thought maybe putting “0” didn’t work, so I put in “1” instead, saved the file, opened it again to check - still said “1” - closed it, loaded the game, checked Klaipeda, had to quit the game out because it froze with all the characters on Ch.1, opened the file again, it was back to “99”. Any idea?

Also ran Dungeon 50 for 6 cubes. Got 6 Talt, 0 cards. Total waste of time. Also tried to google what in the world is up with the merc mission drops (what drops what), but no one seems to know. Also not good.

So far, the graphic card switch seemed to just make things worse, at least temperature-wise - my computer temperature is 5° higher than on the Intel graphic card, according to the readings (and the fact that it feels like I could fry an egg on my laptop).
