[solved] Is dex really that great in melee builds?

edit: yep dex is the only option

this is wrong

is +870 crit attack

Arde dagger at level 320, I don’t think so.
Yellow gem grants less damage to dagger (off-hand).

i was just going by this: http://www.tosguide.net/2016/05/tree-of-savior-gem-types-bonuses-and-exp.html

is the chart for yellow gem really wrong by a factor of 10? o_o or did you forget to copy the word before the part you quoted?

in response to edit: crit rate. from green gem. 120 per level 10 gem x 7 = 870 crit rate. 352 stat points gives you only 467 rite?

Even level 6 yellow gem gives +360.

Important rule to follow on sources:
-relevance (which date, which patch ???)
At least date, or patch should be available on guides.

Yes, sadly that guide is outdated. :disappointed_relieved:

Not just melee almost all physical damage benefit greatly from dex=crit

Put it simple:
-crit=150% base damage+crit damage
Rank 8 patch
-classes base damage
-trans
-gem
-enchant
has changed meta as a whole.

anyone have up-to-date numbers for gems?

nvm i found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/treeofsavior/comments/58f5au/revamped_gem_stat_values/

Greem gem & blue jam is wrong on yours, use this, by @tampon :

nice, thanks. do you know how much crit rate is needed to crit reliably?

Crit Formula is (Crit rate - Crit Resist)*42/ player Level.

You have to keep investing into crit to keep critting.

Level 280 => crit chance %
= (player crit rate - enemy crit resist) x 0.15

Level 330 => crit chance %
= (player crit rate - enemy crit resist) x 0.13

For lvl 330, you need about 786 crit rate to get 100% crit chance vs 0 crit resist mob.

916 if you assume up to 130 crit resist on a mob.

i come up with 1428 by level 600 for 0 crit resist T_T

thanks that gives me a good idea of how much dex i want

There are some buffs in-game which boost your crit rate.

Priest monstrance gives +30% dex, and +10 flat dex after.
Chronomancer Quicken (with attribute) grants +25% crit rate.

I wouldn’t worry about level 600 right now

i was just thinking that if there aren’t options for off-hand weapons with more slots later on that maybe high dex would be needed, but it seems like i can get by with less than i was going to originally put, so i’ll trade a bit for some more con.

Unless you’re front-lining or playing a more supportive role, not even CON is as useful as it used to be. Think this through long and hard before you distribute.

It’s the age of Pure INT (casters) and Pure DEX (fighters) with Yellow Gems x2 in their pants and shirt (Lv5 x 2 = 100Pdef by itself) then Lv5 or higher Blue Gems x2 (I suggest Vine Boots) / 3 (Wind Runner) on their shoes.

Oh and lastly, it’s mostly cloth set now. Cloth Mastery Lv50.

*Dont get caught without a Pardoner’s Lv15/16/17 Aspersion.

The idea now is, what’s the point of having high HP, if you get hit for consecutive 1s?

What’s crit rate gear when you can socket Yellows/Reds, dump everything to DEX and still hit near crit cap, while dealing OP damage.

Not everything I mentioned above is the end all be all, but it’s definitely Meta.

Based on personal experience:
Cle2-Pri3-Chap-Orac-Inqu = 30 CON / REST INT (I regret every CON)

Arc2-QS3-Fal-Rog-Mer = NO CON / 301 Invested DEX, rest of the point unspent, only dies to magic turtle boss in Saalus mission. Rogue Circle wasted along with all my Lv10 WW cards.

yellows are (almost) 10% more efficient than greens on the off-hand at rank 8 assuming you could get enough crit rate. by rank 10 that would be pretty much even so it comes down to *edit block pen vs. accuracy and evasion

if that’s about right then wouldn’t it pretty much not matter whether you pumped str or dex?

You can skip greens altogether, that’s what this patch showed the majority of people. My QS3 is wearing a DGC Stage 2 Trans +8 with 2x Lv6 Yellows, Didel Shield with 2x Lv6 Red Gems in them, survives well with 10K HP, 1.1K PDef after Aspersion, 800 MDef, and still have 1.6k Patk and 1.5k Crit Atk, all without a single point in STR or CON.

Auto swap to use Mergen skills. And in the off chance I get a BLOCK, I also get the +atk buff for QS :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not even done socketing Lv 6 Yellows on the Shirt (0/2) and Pants (1/2).

*Granted a lot of the other stats come from headgear rolls…

It’s so messed up, builds can be super stretched out like this now :stuck_out_tongue:

TL;DR Gem changes completely changed the landscape.

I grew Lv8 Green gems before all this happened, now they’ve been sold off for less than half of what they could’ve been priced at, had things not changed

Oh and melee wise, salvage it. Don’t be like this char of mine. As early as now, think about it really hard >.<

let me redo the math and just show you what i’m theory-crafting…

what i did was plug in 250 str and 250 dex at rank 8:

250 points = 542 str*, so 542 damage x 1.5 + 542 = 1355 damage on a critical hit.

250 points = 319 dex, so 319 crit rate.

for off-hand weapon only:

if you divide the damage from str by 465 crit atk from a level 10 yellow gem all those stat points are worth 2.9 gems.

if you divide the 319 crit rate by 120 from a gem you get 2.65 gems worth of crit rate for the 250 dex. so the strength is like 9% more efficient assuming you can get 100% crit from just slotting off-hand with rank 10 green gems ignoring the other stats.

Thing is, your theory is plausible, but it ends there.

Have fun with that.

No one in their right mind would make a Lv10 Green Gem at this point, NO ONE. Other colors, likely, heck, the idea of a Lv10 Gem alone has not yet been brought to life. :stuck_out_tongue:

it should work as you go down in levels but it kinda’ depends on being able to crit 100% and only works with the off-hand numbers.

maybe i’ll just do a combination of the two, to allow flexibility?

telsai yugimori has multiple lv10 gem

op is thinking to join the whale-fight

huehuehue

op, i agree with u n ur theory.

since u are rich/carefree/hardcore enough to not thinking about future-proof/survival/effort,
yes, ur stat will deliver best available dmg.
