Is it the attitude that bothers you, or the complaints themselves?
uh long opinion incoming. while I agree that games are art, as who is highly interested in joining the industry, mmorpgs are probably the furthest removed from an “artform” any game can get. The only artistic value is the graphics, animations, music, core mechanics, and storyline. And very, very slightly, the experience that the devs wanted to bring us. The experience of an mmo is very, very loosely tailored in order to have the consistent multiplayer format intact, and changes in response to- surprise- money. What consumers want has so much more constant weight in the mmo industry. You can consider that art if you please, but I don’t find things like dungeon limits, low spawn rates, and etc to be art. uhh I can see how circle resets might be intrusive, but that’s about it.
Games are art because an artist envisioned a complete experience and felt like games were their best shot at conveying what they wanted to create. The thing is, mmorpgs all want to create the same thing in different aesthetic shells, and will easily change their vision or stoop down to overusing rng and never trying anything new for the simple goal of gaining money. Nothing wrong with it, we all know what we signed up for, but that gives us room to want changes.
tl;dr: saying people are entitled and stupid for complaining about mmorpgs because they are an “art form” is a bit silly.
I also don’t like the way people demand things, but I think suggestions are always fair when it comes to online gaming. The moderators, if they do have 10 years of legendary experience, do not need a mini internet army to defend them against threads that they know very well not to respond to, or to respond to very, very carefully. They can tell the difference between actual dissatisfication and people pushing something for their own personal gain, and raging.
If you’re trying to create a better community, that’s fair, but you certainly don’t seem to be interested in changing anyone’s mind with your own attitude issues and the neat little line you want to draw between yourself and the other half of the community. Try to compromise more. No, you don’t owe people respect if they annoy you, but do not try to pretend to be the better person if you retaliate in kind.
lastly, it is nice to hear some appreciation for something you’re working for, but if your work is subpar or inadequate, you are no more entitled to praise as these people are entitled to large changes to the game. And yes, saying it’s their job is completely valid. A programmer doing complex work is paid more than a burger flipper. They were also trained for this. Saying it’s okay to do badly in your profession just because it is not menial work is strange.
