So.. how is Lancer atm?

is it worth trying ? I couldnt test it during the reset event.

Good bossing, might be better Fencer.

Crazy high single target damage but very limited in AoE dmg. Like others mentioned, stupidly strong against bosses and very good in PvP.

Quintain deals 2x damage with new Lancer c2 attribute and another +150% bonus 2 damage from Crush debuff so that’s 1574 * 2 * 2.5 = 7870% skill factor on each overheat. This factor can get another +50% bonus 2 damage from Cataphract’s Acrobatic Mount (not yet in iToS) for a 1574 * 2 * 3 = 9444% factor per overheat. This is not considering the armor reduction Crush also provides.

Rhongomiant also provides very high damage, but it’s strictly limited to single targets only. I’m not sure what’s the damage scaling for distance, but I can tell you it’s quite high. Rhongomiant will also get +50% bonus 2 damage from Acrobatics Mount, as will every other Lancer skill.

Initiative lv 10 provides +800 block penetration which is really welcome in PvP since HG equipment can give +block so easily. It also increases Rush’s damage by +30% so you really want Initiative at least lv 1 even for PvE. Rush will be dealing +30% from Initiative and +50% from Acrobatic Mount so 158 * 1.8 = 284% factor per hit, or 30 * 284 = 8520% factor per full skill use (over 10 seconds). That’s by far your best (and most likely only) AoE dps to boast with.

After Cata’s rebalance, you’ll really want to have that class together with a Lancer build. Catas may not have superb damage potential but they have a lot of utility and synergy with Lancers now in comparison to anything else you could get being limited by a 2h spear mounted class.

Thanks for the replies, ty for letting me know of lancer absurd damage on single targets, I wonder if it would be hard to level up one at high levels since I have almost zero AoE

is lvl1 initiative good enough? how about lvl 10 joust? is lvl 10 quintain a must have?

Leveling up isn’t really hard as it consists mostly of doing dungeons and/or quests. It’s relatively easy content so it shouldn’t be bothersome regardless of what class you are. At worst case scenario, you’ll just take longer to finish a dungeon run if you and your whole party are weak in AoE dps.

If you want to farm HG, or challenge mode, however, (which are content that require slightly superior AoE dps), you might find Lancers troublesome to go around with.

For hunting world bosses, Lancers are very convenient due to their movement speed and high single target burst damage capability. They might fall slightly behind a world-boss oriented shinobi build, tho.

If you’re building PvP, you want Initiative as high as you can get. Joust can be kept lv 1 for PvP (destroy Safety Zone) but the damage scaling is not worth it enough to justify lvl 10. For PvE Joust is hardly necessary.

I’m not sure how the multi-hit patch changes will affect Quintain. If it becomes true multi-hit, lvl 10 Quintain might be well worth it. As for right now, it’s not necessary to have Quintain maxed, since it caps the damage at 777k, but it’s still the best skill Lancers have for PvE and there’s not many other options to ditch skill points in.

It will be. Quintain will soon hit for almost 2.5kk in a single over heat :haha:

i’m interested in a boss hunter cata3lancer2, anything i should know? never played lancer, don’t kknow the combo or anything at all

The only thing that u might use from the Cata is Trot and Rush I think, but the main thing that combos with lancer is the super mobility that Cata gives to the build

Not much to learn. Crush + Quintain is your bread and butter dps skills. Cataphract important skills are Trot, Rush and Acrobatic Movement, as @Siegnir mentioned (the latter coming in a future patch). All other skills will be dealing quite minimal dps and using too much sp to be reliable.

For Boss hunting I would suggest Sw 1 HL 1 Hop 2 Cata 3 Lancer 2. Spear Lunge boosts Crush + Quintain damages and you also have Crown + Pierce and Stabbing which will both be quite decent damage after hoplite rebalance.

Be aware that it’s not the best boss dps character out there. Like I mentioned before, a shinobi character oriented for boss dps deals more damage than Lancer.

pierce attribute with crown debuff is obtained at hoplite3, but still hop2 gets stabbing attribute which is gonna be so gut.

Other way around.
Pierce atrib at Hop c2, Stab attribute at Hop c3.

Only if you want to pursue PVP, since it’s lacking in PVE potential at the moment. I main a lancer since it’s release and here are some of my feedbacks:

PROS:

  • Superior block penetration hands down, the class is very flexible in stats since it does not require you to invest in block penetration thanks to initiate. It is the only swordsman class that can have both excellent accuracy and block penetration at the same time.
  • Ability to engage and disengange using rhongmiant and steed charge respectively.
  • Rhongomiant deals approximately 150% damage (3802%) at max distance, 200% damage (4706%) with future acrobat buff. It’s a good arsenal against archers and INT mages.
  • Crush quaintain combo hurts even players with 10K+ pdef, provided that it hits and the crush debuff proc. It will be more insane when acrobat mount comes in.

CONS:

  • Strict melee and the lack of AoE ratio, hitting summoners like necro and sorc is challening.
  • Slow skill animations, it is easy to dodge without a CC, so you will rely on knockdowns, hook, and team mate CC. SRs and hackas can be a pain to deal with.
  • Crush’s gear destroy attribute has been buggy since day one, it doesn’t proc most of the time, even the description is messed up.
  • Prevention is mostly used for curing rather than preventing with it’s very short uptime, notheless it’s a nice kit to have.
  • Rhongomiant is a strict single hit skill that has an awkward aiming and animation that can be stuck and bugged like hackapel’s cavalry charge. The chance to stun from it’s attribute is also lackluster.

It’s not advisable because the skill rotation is lacking even with hoplite version due to cooldowns, 20% of the time you will auto attack, the burst is only exceptional on low HP bosses like field and saalus nothing more, other classes just literally outshines it.

oh, feelsbad not hoplite 3 then

@Tanzen Yeah it’s only yo kill field bosses, Rush makes it go cap speed and quantain shall one shot them. Not intending to bring it to demon lord hunting. gotta farm them Omnious Fragments

Any sw3cata3xlancer2 will do since there’s not much competition in field bosses skill rotations will not matter, sw3 for max pain barrier so you wont get staggered or knocked down while running it can be really annoying, cata3 for max trot for obvious reason.

so that leaves us with some fillers options for rank 7, Dragoon, Doppel or Corsair I think

I tried to plan a build running away from the classic sw3>Cata3, trying a more defensive stuff, what you guys think about it ?

PVP? hook is a must, you need all the CC you can get to land combo properly, something like https://tos.neet.tv/skill-planner#11337778hh.253555.1a3a6a, which is actually my build right now. You can also take pelt1hop1 for finestra crit rate but you won’t be blocking so might as well maximize guardian buff for 40% pdef.
