i think the problem is you do all the quests on all the maps. you could miss some but then you level too slowly. there’s no exploration or alternatives; which was suppose to be the main selling point. they probably should have made multiple paths and quicker levelling, given how many maps there are. feels like hundreds. i even remember there dev blog post saying you don’t need to do quests at all, but, you kinda do.
THIS
An auto-skip conversation/cutscenes in that case would be cool too
A non-linear story line would fix this so easily lol. At least it would make it not so boring or more emotional. For example, some quests should have chronological aspects to them. If you go to Klapedia and progress through Crystal Mines, you might not have time to save Rose. Or Rose gets captured and you find her later in the game.
Another idea is to make the game “psychological,” though this is kinda cliche by now. So many games have done it. For example, if a player levels STR a lot, the npc might be inclined to give him a weapon. another character who leveled a lot of CON might end up getting options for a shield, rather than simply giving you the choice of which one you want. Thus the game rewards a tank for building tank rather than building damage and losing out on gear.
This also encourages fixing the “party quest” system. Right now it’s garbage. Everyone does their own quests. With this method, perhaps partying would allow gaining of more exp cards. The party leader’s quests are the only ones which would show up. Upon completion, everyone gets EXP cards and rewards. Then parties could change leader to keep everyone on the same map. (Like dark souls…) Or if you’re out of EXP cards and stuck and sick of grinding, join someone else for a different tale altogether and leave their party whenever you get bored of the story.
I think we all remember FFVII and Aerith Gainsborough. How badly did everyone want her to live! >:D
This would lead to interesting titles too! “The Darkest Knight- rewarded for 500 dead npcs.”
The problem as I see it is that the leveling process is fixed. At a specific level, you always level at that map / quest. This makes for a very very linear game-play and frankly I don’t know how many times people can stand it until they call it quits. (for me it is 3 times - once in iCBT1, second time in iCBT2, and this is the 3rd time and I barely play anymore).
Also due to the level restriction of monsters, you cannot fight tougher monsters to give better exp. The monster design is also poor with little (real) variety that offers better xp, better silver, better items etc. There’s no real choice / option in what you want to optimize. Everyone goes through the same path and monster over and over again.
Lastly the quest story is just plain ■■■■. It’s not interesting, has no character, no background and builds no emotions. Just generic ■■■■. I don’t who can write such poor stories because even 5 year olds have better imagination than this.
Well, after every character you make, grinding gets quicker. Up to 49% bonus xp i hear.
As for doing the same quests over and over, why not try doing kill achievements, main quest and dungeons only? might not be as fast as questing, but its not too bad. you get some good items too.
but is it an actual 49% bonus or is it like this kind of exp bonus
Those are plausible as well. I do think there’s just a lot that you’ll miss out on (mostly exp cards) if you only stick to the main quest.
I presume OP will also consider doing kill achievements boring as it’s quite repetitive as well. That, and 100% map exploration which IMO an alt shouldn’t have to do anymore and just instantly get the exp card upon arriving as long as it’s been fully explored by a main or other alts already.
Those kill achievements suck… like seriously suck. I’m leveling a cleric to a paladin right now and mostly grinding, level 39 now and what I am noticing is that the amount of monsters you have to kill in a zone for a 1 exp card achievement reward is actually so high that I am GREATLY outleveling the zones (probably due to the questing giving you exp cards) and still have tons more monsters to kill.
I feel like it can be toned down a bit or ramp up how many cards you get for doing these kills cuz right now the time it takes to do them is very tedious… I am on my 7th character right now and it’s just numbing my fricken brain.
Heres a hint, unless u fuked up ur game and need to reroll QUICKLY, avoid questing if it bores u. Its totally legit to just grind ur levels, my last char was +50 level to questline and it was no issue whatsoever, just catching up when I feel like I wanna hoard couple cards.
already exists, you know…
mouse right click, or > button on xbox controller. terminates the convo.
dunno what it is for keyboard… esc?
can’t do anything about cutscenes though… that’d sure be nice. especially that stupid paladin and his pointlessly long showing off.
you -can-… you get full exp for killing above your level. usually it’s just so hard to do it that it isn’t practical. you slow down so much that you’re earning less exp overall.
i am curently trying to reach level 100 by doing the more grinding possible & less quest possible … & it is working, boring map take 10 min to complet & map with alot of mob i can grind the missing exp …cause let be honest … exp card lvl 1, 2, 3 & 4 are useless … they dont even count for 1% of the exp in the game … dont waste time budy …
lol… level 153 is only about 5% of the total exp to 280.
but you still need to earn exp to get -to- that level.
if any exp card was worth 1% of the exp in the game, you’d just need 100 of them to hit max level. this is a pretty ignorant reason to dismiss the cards.
Honestly I wish they would’ve made like 1 branch-off map every 10 levels that was just a grind zone, no quests or nothing, just the ability to grind with tons of mobs and actually decent respawn times.
I don’t really like the quests at all, even on my first (halfassed) playtrough, I found them quickly to be “walk here, hit badly respawning mob 10 times and smash your backspace key” followed by a eeeeehh tier boss fight.
If only the EXP bonus from your team level would count for EXP cards as well… would help a lot if these gave 13% more right now.
Are you sure about this? The last time I did thing above my level it seemed to reduce exp. I think the last time I tested, I get full exp for things 5 levels below me to 4 levels above me.
I will have to test again to be sure.
But it still stand that there is no real monster variety / map variety. Everyone, every class goes through the same thing. There’s no map / monster optimized for ranged classes and maps optimized for melee classes, and maps optimized for groups (besides dungeons with limited runs). Heck there’s no map optimized for cleric classes (like heal bombing).
you’re right about the 5 levels i think.
exp per mob is the same.
exp per hour may go down because they might be slower to kill.
i was just killing mobs +7 levels over me; checked xp earned. 341 base/316 job.
spammed cards to go up to within 3 levels; exp unchanged.
Interesting. It seems like they might have changed the exp penalty then. I have to recheck it in game.
Thanks for the update.
