So a little bit of a concern for our horde of free players

As we know bots are becoming “Clever Bots” they are no longer using names like aksjdsakjdksa and have actually been using actual realistic player names now.

With their being banned does this mean that team name becomes available now or are the bots forcing regular players to now have random names because the bots took and got the ‘decent ones’ banned?

^ This.

Will banned players/bots relieve themselves of the taken team names, or will it be forever etched in the purgatory? The fact that the bots are getting better shows that whoever’s programming them is basically improving on their code every second.

IMC, how are you going to fight the swarm of bots, while making it a safe haven for new aspiring saviors?

never seen the clever bots.
but im almost 100% sure they dont spam www. tossilver .com all day if they alreeady went into the effort of having the name.
pllus if they have clever name, if they do spam we can report them, if they dont soam, then oh well, how will it harm us?

it will harm the economy of the game. if they FARM too much loot to sell in Market.

Clever Bots are the ones in the field earning the silver they’re trying to pawn off to players. You’ll usually catch them if you spawn a high level orb monster near them or use an anvil(They usually have odd movement patterns too, such as going for a mob, turning around, going for it again going in a random direction you see nothing at all then finally going for the mob.) Usually when they exhibit that, I throw a throw-away 1* gear on an anvil and wait for them to come whack it and report them if they do.

Not all bots are meant for spamming, these bots are the ones in the field doing the REAL damage.

Edit: I recommend removing the url.

Maybe they need to take them down manually. I mean, get someone to log everyday to check maps. It’s like to 2 teams, the first one manages reported bots while the 2nd team logs online and visits maps to check bots.

i agree and they all upgraded their items with ARDE DAGGER + Priest c3 costume

IMC already stated they won’t do this method, but players have figured out a way we can report them and some players have really high reporting scores so their reports get taken seriously with little investigation.

This thread is more about what about the team names these clever bots are using and getting banned. I reported a bot with a non gibberish name that actually had a meaning in another language before maintenance… someone could of probably wanted to use that team name.

I mean it won’t be hard to compile a list of “common names” and then just keep creating them over and over. Let say a bot with the name Bob was banned he can just create another character with the name Bob. If we assumed banned character release their names. Then they can just endless loop their creation.

This would require money to hire people which their only job is to hunt down bots. Which isn’t bad but that doesn’t sound like a position a small company would hire.

I don’t know jack about programming but is it hard to add a bot check every hour or so? like some dude suggested, in-game CAPTCHAs?

Okay, that is a problem but would you rather free players getting stuck with names such as asdlkjasdjas because every name with some meaning is taken? One of the bots I reported literally had a name that meant something like Exotic in another language and it was definitely a bot.

They can keep recreating characters under the new name all they want right now that doesn’t stop them, they’d probably use a list like they’re using right now anyways because they don’t want to get caught before they can make a transaction.

Right now this literally does nothing but harm the incoming wave of new players, they’ll get stuck with gibberish names or numbered names because the bots took all the ‘good’ ones.

I’m no programmer but my father has created programs that function similar to bots and I’ve asked him about it when I had an interest in pursuing a career as a software architect.

What I do know is that the feature you’re suggesting is very intrusive and could hinder normal players more then bots, it’s also been proven that bot developers have figured ways around regular captcha as the thread you’re referring to someone said “Hiragana Captchas will be the only thing that stops them.” Not to mention imagine fighting a boss in a dungeon then a captcha pops up on you making you unable to do anything until you solve it… but you’re dead now, because those seconds it took to solve that let the boss land a fatal attack on you.

Take your satire elsewhere, this is a serious issue and not everyone wants to look up 20,000 words in an encyclopedia for a game they simply want to try out and see if they like it.

I think there is a incentive to bots creating a obvious fake name, you wouldn’t want your own customers being banned before you leech the money out of them would you?

There really won’t be any incentive for them to create “real name” I mean hiding from developers is good an all but really I don’t think they believe a single account can live for a extended period of time and they don’t need it to. Why hurt themselves and mix up their names into real players that can be potential customer. It would be counter productive. And also it much easier to do character creation by doing.

name = “aaa”
While(notcreate)
{
name = name+“a”;
create(name);
}

I mean is naming really a problem? This game has instant return on deleted names. That in my opinion is a huge plus. Some games won’t let go of the name for days or months, some of them just don’t let it go at all. So the return of name is so bad that its literally impossible to make a meaningful name. If you don’t stick number or random spelling. I honestly don’t use the English language as my name basis, which makes it much easier.

“Clever Bots” aren’t always the problem with people taking realistic type names as much as it’s other players. The one good thing about this game it’s team name system allows you to have any name you like for your character. So as long your not too picky about your team name it wont matter too much. The thing which is awful is all team names are shared threw out all servers (or at least the NA ones).

It would be nice of an option to hide team names and only show character names.

Oh no, see the obvious fake names are for the spam bots the ones who only have a goal of getting to the point of using megaphones or spamming in town their RMT site.

The bots I’m referring to are the ones that are hiding their silver and they slip under the radar quite often especially since these bots are in higher leveled maps(100+). Market doesn’t tell you who’s selling the item, it just says the item is being sold.

Wait so when a team IS banned, the name does become available again? Is that what you are saying cause if so then … well this thread was kinda pointless cause there’s nothing to be discussed or brought to the staff’s attention.

As someone who is capable of making a bot, I will just say to you all that most of your suggestions would only hurt real players, while doing barely any difference to botters.

You all have the arrogance to assume that you have any decent solutions without any knowledge about the topic and also bold and stupid enough to think that you know better than people who work in a game company and do those things for living. It blows my mind.

Leave it to people, who know what they are doing.

It’s pretty easy to make a name generator, there are countless on internet.

As someone who actually has experience in bot development during RO, I laugh everytime when I saw the suggestion posted in this forum to counter bot.

It don’t works, even if my skill is not as high levelled as those who developed the core of the bot, I know how to counter most of the method posted.

The machine learning implemented by IMC is something that actually may works though, depending on how hardworking IMC’s GM is.
