Killing same weak monster for millions time makes the game good and makes you good player? The only way to make the game good is more quests, exploration rewards chests , random and hidden events, more boss and ultimate boss, pvp/pk channels , quests to unlock stuff, guild wars/event, solol pvp events. Better crafting and more pets and costumes.
Semi-hardcore because you can fit an 8 hour job, 8 hour sleep and 8 hour gaming in one day. It’s just using their free time to game really. I actually knew someone who live along that until they got a GF and then stopped playing games as much.
True hardcore is those without jobs playing 15+ hours a day sacrificing sleep to get more. That is the kind that’s unhealthy.
If the grind gets much harder, then why would you want it to be hard currently. I’d say anything around 180 and below would be literally a respite for the later levels. I’ve spent countless hours on games, but if its just grinding its not as fun, theres gotta be stuff to do that distracts players from the mindless grind, such as what NeNela said.
Thanks for clarifying, but I still believe semi-hardcore is unhealthy, now the hardcore you described… I am at a loss of words.
What do you think about the exp rates though? : D
Would “rested exp” help solve the problems, then?
I mean… think about it. Lower the exp rate to the rate of the first cbt. Cool, we have to grind, I don’t mind. I mean I don’t mind so long as they address the quest gaps that I’ve read about where around some higher levels you run out of things to do and have to grind for 10+ levels in horrid spawn rate maps without quests and exp cards to help. Something like that at least so long as that’s fixed and it’s a nice even progression throughout then I don’t mind grinding at all. But if we had rested exp then it would help offset what’s lost for casual players while still not quite making up the difference for a hardcore player. Everyone wins. Hardcore will still win out but the casuals won’t get left behind as far. In addition it would help promote alts since you would want to eat through their rested at least which can repopulate some areas and help promote community.
Rested could be tweaked as well, as far as how much bonus exp is granted as well as when rested takes place. A lot of people assume it has to be the meta of logging off in a town and you get 100% exp boost etc etc etc… it could be tweaked as needed for this title though by granting, say, only 25% bonus exp and requiring not logging in to the character for at least 10 hours. Or something. Just a thought. It seems to me to solve quite a few of the issues. Not to mention if even the hardcore player hits a dead end spot they could make an alt, enjoy the game with fellow players, and lessen his grind on his main so he doesn’t get burnt out (36 hour grind for his next level reduced to, say, 24 hours, not a lot but not a little).
@Party_Llama I think your avatar describes your view on hardcore described above and I just cant stop laughing at it lol. Anyway! I think them rates be good? /exits
Weird, I didnt have to work for anything when I played RO. Got to max level in 2-3 weeks tops.(1 month for trascendent/reborn 99/70).
My input on this: I play around… 8-9 hours daily and I think it’ll take me… 6-8 months to get a character to 600(could be 1 year if the exp curve gets really worse). I dont see how that is bad. RO never took me more than 2 months(first few years) then at around… .episode 10-11 it took me 2 weeks to max any character in RO ^^.
no idea what that means
Level 100 in this game would be roughly the same as almost level 17 in WoW for example. And then you complain about leveling too fast? What a joke, try going all the way to lvl cap before judging.
Rested exp is a bit tricky, giving it to lower levels would mean people would just mass characters and then play their main. I think hitting a certain level requirement that’s relatively small (lvl 30~ or so) THEN giving characters the stacking rested exp would be good. Also the problem would be that where the stick lies for time limited rested exp boost, quest based rested exp boost, or hunting based rested exp boost.
Also town rested would be a bit too overdone 8)
That one of games that had the most “grinding” (Ragnarok Online) actually took 1-2 weeks to max if you knew what you were doing(3 months if the game had just been released/earlier episodes).
This game took that guy and his group 20 hours of play time daily for 8 days, do the math. Thats 160 hours to get to 200, for someone playing 8 hours a day(hardcore player) thats 20 days, someone playing 4 hours=40 days, someone playing 2 hours=80 days to hit 200(could be a little bit more).
Now lets take into consideration that usually, grinding gets harder as you get to a higher level, so lets say from 200-300 it takes that same group… 12 days, and 300-400 takes them 20 days, and 400-500 takes them 1 month while 500-600 takes them 1 month and a half. That would be around…2300 hours which would mean (for a hardcore/semi hardcore, 8 hours/day) 287.5 days.
Different games, different events, most people here are scared they’ll get to end game and then be all like “What do we do now?” even though its in beta still. Endgame content hasn’t really been shown to anyone so people are up in arms to lower the exp rates even though leveling now is really cushy, but should be left where it is.
I’m not sure if RO has a great endgame but the ride must’ve been fun.
the endgame was pvp oriented(woe)
“Rested Exp” was a punishment, not a bonus. It was phrased as a bonus so people would think they were getting something free, instead of having stuff taken away.

I recommend that everyone watch Extra Credits so they can see where ToS goes wrong from both gameplay and development standpoints.

Honestly grinding here is boring. Don’t get the wrong idea that I don’t like grinding. I have played a lot of grinding games before and I enjoy the process much.
There’s a short range if mobs to choose to grind here.
Killing mobs here isn’t very exciting since you don’t expect much reward like epic items at epic drop rate. Lets take RO for example I remember hunting elven ears for weeks killing same mobs over and over again and I dont regret it when it drops. I know rates here are prety high but I never felt like grinding to be geared at all.
Also try grinding and play random RO bgm see the difference in mood. Lol.
but getting bonus exp for doing nothing is a punishment? Also thanks for those videos, they are pretty short and concise on their topics.

Honestly grinding here is boring.
doing things in a group is actually pretty fun, although I guess that applies to most games. TOS is a different experience in a full party, at least for me. Take in the fact that this game is still in beta so expect more, hopefully.
Well thats one of the thing everyone is looking forward. And I know that the game has a good potential.
The addition of monster gem in drop is good. It can work like a rare drop here. Perhaps adding some semi dungeon type maps in low density area in high lvl fields would be great. But thats just me.
Spouting year numbers really doesn’t add anything to an argument and…
is just flat out showing no understanding to how much Koreans to this day and (in your case year) still love grindan videogames.
Problem with the grind isn’t how long it takes.
It’s that there is only one map to grind on (and everyone is grinding there) and that the game is just boring. I don’t want to sit around grinding 20,000 kills when I’m bored after the first 20. If you want people to grind, make the game fun so it doesn’t feel like they’re grinding. Otherwise expect lots of people to bot and even more to just quit.
