Shield Lob / Throw Spear has been fixed

Finally! It’s been changed! You will no longer lose your shield/spear with these skills now!

Here the part of the patch info from pastebin :

  1. Swordsman Classes Skill Changes
    -Peltasta: Shield Lob - After throwing the shield, physical DEF will decrease until the shield is picked back up. If after a period the shield is not picked back up, it will return automatically.
    -Hoplite: Spear Throw - After throwing the spear, physical ATK will decrease until the spear is picked back up. If after a period the spear is not picked back up, it will return automatically.

Finally we will be abble to think back if we should take them or not in builds :stuck_out_tongue:

The fact that this was ever a problem that existed is hilarious. But at least it is fixed.

Although Shield Lob still does too little damage and doesn’t have any helpful attributes. I think it still needs a little help. Spear throw is good now, though.

Well it’s because it has more range than spear throw with the attribute. But then again spear throw has an “effect attribute” so maybe they should have put same damages or a cooldown a little lower for shield lob. But the fact is Peltasta is more of a tank class than hoplite is ^^

What if you throw both? Can you pick up ur secondary weapon set and fight or w8 till them come back?

…auto-return is lame. Disappearing was even lamer, but why didn’t they just remove the disappearing, but leave in having you pick it up.

So what happens if you dont pick it up with your system?

It stays there until you do, kind of like drops. Unless that’s what the disappearing was about, having the same timeout as drops.

The feature had good intentions and imho they could’ve kept the mechanic if they were able to cover all issues in a simple manner and balance the skill in exchange for the tradeoff appropriately.
As long as the countdown isn’t too short and the debuff high enough though, I’m fine with the new method.

Yippee, now I can add Throw Spear to my build.

I read somehwere in the bug reports that Shield Lob wasn’t applying the bonus 50% damage of its [Strike] type to Plate armored targets. Do you know if this was fixed?

I don’t know if they fixed this for shield lob yet but this issue is common for a lot of skills last week like 7-9 skills had there bonus damage on X armor type fixed.

Why not you throw a spear/shield “projectile” out but you keep the spear/shield in hand? I don’t expect this game to abide by the laws of physics of our world. Archers have like infinite arrows anyway. They don’t even keep a quiver on them lol. Plus the skills have cooldown anyway.

Just a suggestion.

Glad they changed their mind, and the downside is really good =)

Ok, now increase the damage dealt on each of the respective skills to make them efficient offensive skills.

There is no point in having the skill permanently drop the weapon. The skill wasn’t THAT good to begin with. Nobody really bothered to even put points into them.

If you throw a spear, you essentially drop it. That’s realistic and makes you think before using the skill. Is the penalty in ATK worth it at the moment? Can you pick it up fast enough? etc. The current “fixed” version doesn’t change all that, except that now you don’t really have to pick it up - but if you do, you get your ATK back sooner. I wish they kept the realism though.

In most of the games where there are throw weapons skills, they always come back into your hands immediately or after some time. If they decided to change it like that it’s because it’s more convenient this way. It will stay a game and not everything should be realistic ^^
Anyway most of the people that used it at first used it on themselve so their character would pick it up instantly. ^^

Even if the idea of the “losing throwback” was a good idea at first, that would have been too much of a hassle, in pvp if you would be control again and again after throwing your spear by the ennemy team / if you were killed before taking it back / if your team woned the last round before you could get back your spear > it would disappear because of game flaws. They had to find a way to fix that.

This is a great change. I was worried after seeing their answer in the old Q&A that they were going to be hard-lining this decision.

I’d be onboard with some kind of harsher penalty, like atk/def staying decreased for a longer time if the item was never picked up, but the problem that still needs to be addressed is that the skill is likely still not totally worth taking. At least for shield lob, the charge-up time is kind of silly, and the damage is quite bad. I can’t see this being any better than just auto-attacks, unless it gets some attributes that apply some kind of debuff.

Has anyone tried spear throw? I don’t know how good its damage is, so it might be worthwhile now.
