It would be interesting press any key and then came a circle with several emojis then need only move the mouse in the direction of the desired emojis and finally release the key.
If you happen to give up sending the emojis having already pressed the key, just not move the mouse in any direction and release the key.
This circle emojis can be a little transparent to not hinder the vision of the game.
For those who play without a mouse, it would be enough just indicate the direction with his own arrow keys.
This system not serve only to emojis, but for phrases or whatever the player want to configure.
I think I saw this system in Dota 2, but do not play a long time, so do not know if it still exists. It’s a quick, very functional and intuitive system.

You could always give us the old RO emotes like /sigh /heh /sob /omg I know of more than a few of us that would love to have those back, or even a new spin on them. Would be best if we could use the /commands like back in the day. I know you likely can’t use them as they are in RO for legal purposes (not sure if you all hold the rights on RO or not) but something for the old RO players to remember the old days with like that would be amazing. Not that the game doesn’t have enough RO feel for us, but I for one can’t have enough to remember the good old days by.

it was pretty easy to make a quick emo to let people know that “I need help” or “thanks” without having to do much.
Also we should be able to shortcut them on our controller. that would be awesome

Also to add. The Current Emoticons are good for when you when you want to strike a pose for a group screenshot or something like that.
But I feel that it doesn’t really communicate how you feel at any given moment.
Also, the emoticon images that show up in chat feel out of place. the Look and feel doesn’t go well with the art style game. That just my personal opinion.
