Yeah I disagree with almost everything. The game play felt great, smooth, and fun. I will admit wizard early game could be tweaked with higher sp regen or better autos.
The game is headed in a great direction.

I think itâs too early to be judging the game on how it feels when 1-100 is still considered early game⌠I do how ever agree with boss AI it was terrible and some traps needed to be nerfed or put on some sort of cooldown because as a cleric going against a silence trap is a nightmare made me want to pull my hair out.
I think the game is nice the way it is right now, I like the grind, I love the fact that abilities feel useful and situational depending on whatâs going on around you instead of spam this button for hours till you get your new toy.
One thing I think this game needs to improve on is giving information to new players about small stuff like weapon types and monster weaknesses even if you have to earn it somehow.
So we canât judge Tree of Savior by comparing it to Ragnarok Online? Sure theyâre two different games, but this is still made by the same creator and clearly follows a lot of the same gameplay patterns and mechanisms.
Whatâs next? We canât compare a spade to a shovel because theyâre magically different?
RO and ToS are completely different, doesnât really make sense to compare them.
In what way? The controls? Anybody who has played both is naturally going to make comparisons.
You essentially answered your own question.Theyâre two different games,so nothing useful will come out of comparing them.
Are you trolling? Theyâre different in very little more than name. They share many comparisons such as
Kim Hakkyu (creator of ToS, ex-CEO of Gravity)
SoundTEMP and other artists (music)
The headgear slot being the only customisable slot (includes hair)
Class system incredibly similar to Ragnarokâs (advance ranks)
Class leveling independent from Character leveling
Class points go to skills, Character points go to stats
The game may not have gridlike controls as Ragnarok had, but there are plenty of grids to be found in the game such as the Clericâs heal squares.
Pet system is the same with a little bit of modification
Free roaming system, quests are not a necessity to play the game
Harsh grind (ToS has it much EASIER)
Can set up player shop stalls anywhere you like
do you REALLY want me to continue? Or do you want to just accept that there are a large amount of things you can compare to Ragnarok, and that the games are very similar at this point? The game is easy to compare to, and I can probably create a list that has more similarities to Ragnarok than I can for one that has unique features to Tree of Savior.
What youâre asking me to do is to not compare them, and thatâs pretty hard. Itâs like asking me not to compare Final Fantasy to Bravely Default (protip: same franchise)
At what point did I ask anyone to stop comparing them? All I said was that Iâm tired of seeing it everywhere. You feel one way,I feel another.Thereâs nothing wrong with that, and Iâm not the only one.
Also, not the best example. Why would anyone go into Bravely Default expecting an experience like Final Fantasy? I have played both, and still got a difference experience out of both.It seems like we feel differently about the weight a title carries. If itâs not a part of a series, and has a different name,Iâm not going to expect the exact same experience. If I wanted to play Final Fantasy,I would save myself the trouble and skip Bravely Default because I know it wonât have everything I expect of that series.
Who cares how similar they are? If itâs thatâs much like RO and you guys love it that much, then go play that.Stop projecting another game on one that hasnât even had the chance to bloom into its own thing yet.
Protip: Donât villanize someone for feeling differently than you.Happens all the time.
Telling someone to not compare a game that is extremely similar to its predecessor is not going to work well for you.
By the way, with the Bravely Default analogy, yes it is possible to get a Final Fantasy buzz off of it very easily. They might not have the same artists, but the people who made the battle systems closely paid attention to what the SNES games did right. It was also intended to play like a âclassic RPG,â with some modern twists to it. It is similar to the first three games in its turn taking approach, and it shares the exact same class leveling system as the fifth. The theme of the crystals played a major role in the first five games, and also feature the classic good vs evil trope that drives the series. Oh and to drive the nail in the coffin, it derives from the Four Heroes of Light (DS) game.
Are you seeing why the analogy fits?
I didnât like Ragnarok Online. I want this game to be different. But the comparisons are there, and turning a blind eye to them is naive. If you want people to stop comparing the two, you better hope they decide to change the direction of the game.
Skill scaling is very important IMO. Iâm unsure if itâs because itâs their way of balancing classes across the board or what, but the majority of skills doing a flat damage with very few % increases is still bothersomeâŚ
The further you go into the ranks the less and less older skills will need to be used. Except, maybe just rotation fodder off you have lots of SPâŚ
EDIT: Also something extremely important, Skill translations/tooltips/information, whatever you want to call it.
IMC hopefully will get professional translation for this stuff. And must approve of every single skill translation, because as of now everywhere I look lots of the information on skills is broken, misleading or just poorly translated. We are all building all these characters off of what often feels like machine translations.
Not only not very informative of the skillâs function, but also just hard to understand in general.
he said âCD are way to highâ, its mean they need to make it scalable not about zero cooldown
I canât say that I agree or disagree, because I never got a chance to play it
BUT, I definitely get what youâre saying. Obviously, ToS is paving its own way, creating their own experience and it will never be the actual successor to RO. That being said, people are always going to compare the two because ToS has been marked as the âspiritual successorâ to RO. This is good and bad. While ToS should be held to its own accord, it also isnât a bad thing to already be compared to one of the most popular MMOs out there.
I definitely think ToS is on to something grand and I canât wait to try it out. And whether or not it is similar to RO, I donât care, because from what Iâve seen I know Iâll be hooked.
And I CANâT STOP PLAYING FALLOUT SHELTER AND MAKING VAULT BABIES.
I actually agree with most of his/her points tbh.
Combat boring? I actually find it satisfying. I dont like spamming skills all the time and i think the balance between AA and using skills are balanced on most classes
CD way too high? Not for all classes. Some classes have it nicely balanced but some are not. I partially agree.
SP regen slow? I have mixed feelings about this but i think thats why we have SPR that we can invest in.
Many skills dont scale? Oh yes, i definitely agree. Lots of skills dont scale well at higher levels, same goes for main stats.
Basic skills should be free? Never thought it before but i think it will be great if we could have skills that only need a level into it to be free.
Tooltips are bad? Yup, need more information.
Grinding boring? Since you find the combat unrewarding, not a surprise. I enjoy the combat, hence grinding is fun for me.
EXP rates bad? Im honestly fine with it but i agree, the exp rate will scare people away.
Bosses boring? Sadly, yeah. They need to have more combat mechanics such as moving faster etc. Also, making them EASILY one hit us is not a creative/fun mechanic(not that i experience any yet).
Archer mobs OP? Even though they are easily evaded but i think their damage are too high as well. They shouldnt do far more damage than melee mobs.
Quests linear? I agree. Although i dont really mind, it wouldnt hurt if we have more variety of quests to play with. The âhiding questâ is just a simple nice addition to the game.
Overall, i agree that this game has alot of potential. However, at the current state of this game, its already one of the best F2P out there and rivals current top MMORPGs. I also agree that there are many excellent suggestions/feedback made in the forums but there are also that should just be left ignored and give ourselves a good facepalm.
Regardless, I sincerely hope IMC will try their best to make the game fun for us.
Combat was excruciatingly boring. Normal attacks 99% of the time is not fun. CD are waay too high.
Disagree. Skill spamming on rotation is what makes a lot of MMOs EXTREMELY boring to me, to the point where there is no reason to have normal attacks since youâre just going to be spamming skills off rotation. Emphasis on normal attacks is important to me.
SP regen is non-existent.
Yeah, it could be better.
Skills donât scale at all and become worthless fast. Lots of worthless skills, or skills that I shouldnât need to put a point into.
Yeah, some of these should just be considered passives if they donât scale or only one point is needed to get the skill. That could be changed,
The VAST majority of attributes are worthless and not worth the investment.
Yeah, make the stats do more. I played Str/Con swordsman and Str/Dex swordsman and there doesnât even seem to be a reason to invest in Con for me, since doing more damage was a better option and I was naturally tanky.
Tooltips in general, whether they be for skills, attributes, items, or whatever, donât supply even close to enough information I need. They only give me about 10% of the information I need.
Tooltips can be better. Taking suggestions is a good idea from players familiar with the skills, since 3rd party translation seems to be a thing anyways.
Grinding is boring, need to make it actually fun if you want us to grind. EXP rates are abysmal. As an altoholic, I feel like I would have to give up on having a life if I want to play this game.
Grinding is grinding. I think higher mob density would make it more fun/rewarding, but grinding isnât really something that can just be fixed. You need to work hard for it to be rewarding to accomplish anything and that is going to feel sort of arbitrary as time goes on and reqs get higher. Itâs a part of the experience. Too much RNG/random events makes leveling unfair (blue mobs are fun but equally a complaint to some of the community, esp. competitive/jealous people).
Bosses are boring. Make the AI actually good. Make them faster. Make them move around more. Make them use more skills instead of standing still for 8 seconds all the time. The AI in general needs to be improved.
Bosses being more challenging sounds good to me, but most bosses follow a set pattern in most games and thatâs why their stats are inflated. Iâd like to see better AI, but still want them to be solo-able because having to party for a boss discourages me from wanting to play.
Archer monsters are OP. Guaranteed hit, unless evade, plus a â â â â ton of damage = not fun.
Yep. Vubbe archers and those goat archers and cactus archers were way too strong for me when I first got to those zones. They could almost 1 shot me and were extremely hard to dodge.
Questing was boring as well. Extremely linear with no variation. Go here, do this, now go here and do this until no more quests in this area. Go to next area and repeat. Thatâs not fun, and making the quests âhiddenâ didnât do anything.
The questing was rather dry. It seemed like generic MMO kill X amount/collect X amount of something, but if quests become too involved at low levels, its going to distract from the open world feel. Not every quest can be a Skyrim-style story arc to explore, but itâd be nice if a few of those existed.
The beta for me was fun, but there wasnât a lot of variety in the game. Iâm excited about being able to explore more of the unique classes because I enjoyed the combat, but Iâd like for there to be a good deal of alternative things to do in addition to just fighting.
I donât need it to be on the level of Fantasy Life Mabinogi by any means, because Iâm an adult and have other things to do with my life than be consumed by ToS, but alternative and creative ways to advance characters/make money/interact with the community would be good to have.
