[Review] Lv. 119 Wizard/Thaumaturge 80%SPR - The Alternative Control Mage

General info.

Server: Steam (CBT2)
Level: 119
Status Build: SPR 80% / INT 20%
Armor: P/late
Class:

  • Wizard ★★★ (Circle 3)
  • Thaumaturge ★☆☆ (Circle 1)

Analysis (from my vision):

Attack: ★★☆☆☆ [2/5]
Defense: ★★★★☆ [4/5]
Control: ★★★★★ [5/5]
Difficulty: ★★★★★ [5/5]

It’s quite very difficult and boring at first because there are just a few attack skills for grinding and they are not that powerful to kill an elite monster. Party is necessary in every situation until you can reach Wizard Circle 3 which you can get the skill “Magic Missile”. It is fine (deal damage 600-800 per hit, total 3 hit per 1 time) but not so functional. If you use this skill to the awaken mobs, it will shoot straight out randomly for 3 hit (not as AoE). And if your position is too far or too close to the mobs, the Magic Missile will not be able to detect for a target. To make it’s more effective, you need to combo with the skill “Sleep”. The Magic Missile will bounce from the sleeping mobs to the mobs nearby. This also can use the skill Energy Bolt makes a little bit more combos by its attribute (additional damage of Energy Bolt on sleeping mobs) this is a good way to control the situation though.

The skill “Reflect Shield” in Lv.15 is also very nice.
-Damage Reflection: (75 + SPR)
-Duration: 95 seconds
-Reflects 9 times
While I am in the Reflect Shield, I get damage just only 1 (by my 80%SPR stats) and it reflects the damage quite nice. The high SPR raises a magic defense and also makes Reflect Shield stronger in the mean time. It means that you are tough enough to stand and deal damage among mobs.

The Thaumaturge skills can resolve the weakness of Wizard class quite well. The skill “Swell Left Arm” raises both melee and magic attack directly (normally they can be raised up by INT and STR) which is very good because I have just a little INT. The “Shrink Body” is also interesting. It reduces enemies’ attack. Its attribute is to make the enemies affected by “Shrink Body” will take 20% more magical attack damage per attribute level which you can deals 60% (at attribute level 3) of your magic atk once when you use the Shink Body. The “Swell Body” is good in finding an item and party grinding. It gives you more EXP and double drop an item (doesn’t raise the drop rate, just the amount of the dropped item).

I plan to go for Thaumaturge Circle 2 in rank 5 to get the skill “Swell Right Arm”
equipping shield: raise Physical/Magic Defense
equipping dagger: raise Physical/Magic Attack
equipping other secondary weapons: raise accuracy and evasion (by attribute level)
Duration: 30 seconds
And it also has an attribute to raise up both magic and melee attack by 3 per level which you can up it to 50 level for each arm.

Summary:

Strength

  • Good supporter (party member can get the Reflect Shield and Thaumatuge skill effects)
  • Control mobs and situations very well
  • Die hard
  • Suite for whom wants to be an utility role

Weakness

  • Not so many attack skills
  • It is difficult to make combo
  • Level 01~50 is such a damn tough life
  • It is not a right choice to be the DPS/AoE wizard

My Comment:

I’d say that I’m a person that always choose to be a wizard in every RPG game. It’s very interesting that there are so many ways to build a wizard up in TOS. I use to play Cyro-Phyco and Pyro-Linker before. That is the nice combo, no wonder why so many people like to play in this build.

But if you are looking for an alternative wizard, i think this is a good one that you have to try once. I never thought i’d build a wizard with a high SPR like this, but it’s good anyway.

By the way, in rank 6, I will choose Necromancer to get more attack skills

PS.
I decided to try Full Wizard class because I wonder how the skill “Magic Missile” works and I go for Thaumaturge because of its costume is so gorgeous LOL

I’ve done the same build and turn Wiz C3 / Thaum C3 but i dicedid to stat full INT.
As you said, it’s hard to grind with but when Rank 7 will be available it’ll be just awesome.

wouldnt it be much better as:
Wiz C3 > Linker C2 > Thaum C1
or
Wiz C3 > Linker C1 > Thaum C2
?

Edit:

Edit2:

That attribute doesnt work that way. It deals 60% (at attribute level 3) of your magic atk once when you use shink/swell body.

This’s also another nice build for PvP and being DPS  But i just personally stat SPR for being an utility role in party.

arrrr sorry for my bad English > _ <

Reflect shield is kinda useless after level 170, because the monster’s attack scale much faster than your SPR.

The monster hit 1000-2000 damage at those level, even with full lv 15 Reflect shield+Full SPR, you won’t reduce those damage by much.

Also, in PVP the player is going to deal much more than those damage, rendering reflect shield useless.

The only good thing about being a high SPR build that I can think of, is that it probably give you more resistance against debuff like Sleep and Freeze (heard this from cryomancer against high SPR character, but I’m not really sure).

@nizidr
I would argue that you don’t need more than one linker in your party, and since other wizard will usually have it, you don’t really need to waste one rank on linker.

honestly, I do want to turn to Linker at least C1. That will make my wizard become well-rounded ; w ; but I just think that it is easy to find people who build up in Linker, so it’s not that hard to party with them to get their skills.

i think that swell brain of Thaum C3 doesnt give much to you or party compared to C1 of linker. And multiple linkers in party is not bad if you cooperate who links when or pull mobs faster than once per 15 sec.

Thaum’s Swell Right Hand combos with reflect shield quite nicely if you need survival - that extra 200+ def/mdef when you use shield is quite potent.

Not when the monster is hitting for more than 2k (same goes to PVP). Also, in PVP, most people has multi hit skill that instantly cancel your shield.

Also, Reflect shield reduce the damage after the damage calculation right? Which means it’s of a even lesser potent than normal mdef.

Beside, Reflect Shield will be wasting one of your buff slot for better buff such as Safety Zone.

Nice vid :smile. I was considering to go wiz 3 - thauma 3 too, its one of the most future proof wiz build for min-maxers and perfectionists out there, but it has a problem: too many buffs. 5 buffs you need to keep them up constantly and who know what kind of op buffs we get more from rank 7+ (we can’t afford to buy daino scroll all the time).

as thauma 3 you should be able to buy daino scrolls because you should use Swell Body for grinding netting you more loot and silver.

4 Buffs actually : Swell Brain, Left+Right Arms and Quick Cast.
I never use Surespell when grinding because of ery low cast time while Quick Cast is on.
Stats when buffed without maxed attribut : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgGo1l_ljFM
(1220 matk with Wizard Bracelet x2)

The real problem with thauma is that their buff isn’t percentage based. Which means their matk increase will eventually fall off at later game (same goes to many other buff though).

Yeah they should change/add attributes that add % of Matk for Swell L&R Arms and % INT for Swell Brain.
For the current level cap it’s still ok but when they’ll extend to 500-600 it’ll be almost insignificant (even if it adds 700+ matk with all 3 buffs and maxed attributes).

Bosses tend to have high def/mdef so you do quite low amount of damage on them, especially with multihit skills(per hit). Those +700 matk will buff party damage against bosses greatly.

Indeed, my previous pure SPR Priest does not affect by Sleep nor Freeze. My current 2:1 SPR:CON Priest does not resist everything. Furthermore, nothing really scale with SPR, and debuff does not go over negative, so SPR does not seem to be a major stats due to the diminish return on the skill.

If that’s true, it might still be worth going high level RS (maybe not lv 15 to get a few points in other spell).

@Ahoryu
700 Matk is actually alot though even if the normal matk became 3k to 4k.

But to gain 700matk you have to spend so much on those 3 buff that it can be worth to spend those points on a DPS skill that can do more damage.
