Review about the Gamepad control

Hello Everyone,

probably most of you dont know me, and never read my review about the cbt2 and the gamepad controlling.
so i decided to write this here again and give you some good insights about the gameplay with a gamepad.

for tl;dr people: gamepad control is amazing, do it! do it!

for everyone else:
I was able to test the cbt1 and cbt2, in the cbt2 i played 95% with a xbox360 gamepad.
the control reminds me to old games like secret of evermore, ever grace or secret of mana.

below you can see a picture of the interface with a gamepad.

the amount of usable items/skills is 40. you have 2 different sets, which contains 20 slots, were you can add skillz or usables.

i reached ~ level 50 in the cbt2 and my first set was 60% full. as with every new rank class, new skillz are coming up, i think the 20 slots will be completely used when level 200+ has been reached.

the feeling to play with the gamepad was amazing, especially because of the escaping against boss ground attacks. i saw some videos about the new upcoming mouse control and i am not really sure how this shell be possible with the mouse control (but we will see).

i personally can highly recommend the gameplay with a gamepad.
for everyone who wanna skip the waiting time with some gameplay videos, dont miss our youtube channel, you can find several videos of Flash, playing with a gamepad.

See you ingame

Kind regards

I just want to say that everyone that’s played FFXIV, the controller layout on screen is very similar, and I love that IMC is doing this right off the bat. There’s so many games that don’t natively support controller/gamepad and then some that do it really bad.

Glad to hear ToS is doing it right

Can you give link or guide on how to connect my PS3/Xbox Controller to Computer? Thanks

damn it >.< i always forget to mention FFXIV.

you are completely right ^^ also FF XIV has this controlling, but to be honest, i feel more comfortable with the controll on tos as on FF XIV.
and if i think about the fact that i had to test tos with a ping of 150-300, i dont want to know how amazing it will be when we can play with a ping of 50

@SheepPoop: to be able todo this, you just need a Bluetooth connector.

u can simply connect ur xbox controller via usb with ur computer. It’s the easiest way (plug’n’play). Dunno about ps3(4). They seem to trouble windows a bit more or are not even supported afaik.

You can use BetterDS3 and it should be fine with a PS3 controller.

If not you can probably easily remap it with xpadder/pinnacle!

true. but as long as u dont want any further complications (more software) xbox (microsoft) products are the way to go. 20-30€/$ for a gamepad isnt much anyway ^^

I could not test in the cbts, but I also think that the gamepads must have a much better feeling than just with the mouse, thats why i dont think its a good thing to change it, just because the mass think its more comfortable.

did you get any reward for testing in the cbts?

no,

me and flash were already happy enought that we got the chance to test for making some videos of our experience, and learn more about the progress.
this was enough reward for us

glad you see it so, as I read cbt or fgt got an special item as reward to be in the cbt/fgt so I was somehow quite envy about it and bit raging, as i think they should be damn thankfully for being able to play it

oh that’s cool then. I played ff14 a little bit and using a controller for that worked great. it’s nice to hear it’ll be similar to that.

Just so everyone knows, you’re talking about a hard wired controller, not the wireless + wire. The hard wired ones are typically older, but they come with plug-n-play drivers.

Also, I’m glad to hear @Gardosen saying the controller support was even smoother than FFXIV. I played FFXIV with a gamepad for most of gameplay (gamepad + monk = ez), and I felt it was incredibly smooth. If it’s even better, then that’s wonderful

I love playing games with gamepad on consoles so i was delighted when gamepad support for Tree of Savior was announced. i would choose gamepad instead of mouse + keyboard combo everyday of the week. imo it makes gaming so much more enjoyable and relaxing (i played FFXIV using gamepad too & it was great).

I love this forum

I would try to play it with gamepad, there are nice ways to connect your ps3 controller to laptop

I have xbox 360 controler for PC so it seems I will be enjoying my smooth gameplay with my controller while sitting back and slaughtering in game monsters hehe. So it’s nice to hear that gamepad control is another option for those console players.

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller is really optimal for this game. I think you will also be able to play this with the steam controller. The button mapping is great and after a little while you will get used to it and dont hit the wrong buttons anymore.

Although the controlls dont really remind me of my SNES time with Squareenix Games. In my Opinion the SNES Controller had one of the best grip feelings i ever had. Lucky for me, i haven have an Multi Adapter which support those controllers. But for a game like TOS, Cross pad AND Analog Stick are required, so i still would recommend the Xbox 360 Controller.

Just so you all know for the beta, swapping from control to keyboard or mouse controls messes up your hotkeys if you remap stuff for the controller. When you go back, it places a dupe hotkey in the corresponding slots, and upon map change, it removes the originals.

Native Controller support? I’ll definitely be playing this on my shield portable
