Reminder about content differences

I am not sure whether this was mentioned before or is actually clear enough, but while testing the beta I saw the problem again.

And the problem is korea getting content earlier on. This is one of the main reasons (at least according to my experience) that killed Ragnarok back then.
I was playing on EuRo and content was about 2 years behind Korea. Everyone at least used pservers to check the newer stuff and on the long run the server died because some simply wanted to stay up to date.
We are gamers. We are known to be impatient.

And now in this beta I am back to checking information about what happens on the Korean server because they are ahead.
And if content isn’t globally the same as sever goes live at least the international server is doomed to lose people to pservers.
According to my online experience about 1 week difference shouldn’t be a problem but anything longer will be. Keep this in mind please as I want the game to be a success. :wink:

You can’t compare RO publishers, you don’t know what is involved, license of content is something that cost money for a publisher, that is may be why on EuRO you had that difference.

Now about ToS, i do agree with you, i can’t say for sure how it is working for them, but imo it would cost less money if they simple copy and past what they already did on Korean version and adapt to our version, but who knows what their contract with Nexon Korea dictates, it is business in the end of the day all the same.

Yes I know. Just expressing some thoughts here.
I know next to nothing about Nexon, only got to know them through Dota and there they went for a lot of (long time) exclusive content.
I mean in Dota it does not matter, in mmorpgs where content, achievements and items is all that matters it kills. Normally I would think that publisher would realize that as business should be all that matters in the end but then again in gaming far to often games restrict players which boosts piracy a lot and in the long run hurts business.

To topic, iirc the open Korea Beta is going to be the official test server later. Which is fine as long as international users can connect to it (no need for translation there).
Best would be to send the content live on both servers after testing.

Of course we know nothing about the license situation or contracts but stuff like that can always be changed.

At least for me if the difference gets to big and I get restricted from enjoying the newest content I would be done and gone and I am probably not the only one thinking like that.

I definitely agree with this sentiment but let’s not forget that the game is still not yet fully translated
This may be the biggest factor so far that is impending us from being up to date or at least close to that with ToS KR version.

IMC should hire a dedicated translation team or at least hire the ones who are most active and contributed greatly to ToS translations. Even now, the translations still have some minor problems most specifically some dialogues referring to female characters as “he”, “his”, or whatever inappropriate :x:

Looking at the translation section one more suggestion: Not to many translations, at least IMC shouldn’t give that priority.
The most important ones are probably English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Russian. These should be done on time by professionals. Maybe even just Korean + English as more or less everyone else is able to click through it with broken English. We get an add-on system which means they could try to let players handle anything different than Korean and English through interface add-ons. It is greedy but would probably work.

I definitely agree. The faster the English translation goes, the faster the translation of any other language also gets because translating from English is most likely easier than translating from Korean. Also, we get content faster which is great :smiley:

I agree with you in that translation is a very important process for the International server. Many contributors and IMC have been working hard to deliver English translations so that the 2nd iCBT could go live. This process does take some time since there is so much text.

Although there are few contributors who manage to translate from Korean to English there are also other dedicated contributors for helping out. Context is key in translation, especially since Korean is known to be a contextual language. That is why you see those minor mistakes since it is translated based on the text. Though we do get to play the game to get a better understanding, but all this work is voluntarily. Also, it is important to know that it is currently a translation stage that will switch to the localization stage later. Some dialogue may sound stiff and odd, but that will be fixed in the future.

It’s really bad to translate to a language then to other languages though. Like each translation gets farther from the original. If they want speed they can just keep doing the github thing and then clean it up later.

They have said in the Q&A’s they want all the servers to be on the same patch although the betas are suggesting otherwise.

I agree with it, it is not good to be months and even weeks behind Korea, this time machine is no fun for gamers.

It feels stupid to play an outdated beta, imagine how bad it may be in the release.

Hmmm I’m not exactly sure myself as I only know two languages but I can translate back and forth the two without losing much sense. Then again, I guess there is merit to that point wherein the emotion or the feel differs when moving from language to another which would be bad if the translation path taken is Korean -> English -> Other languages.

However, another point to consider is that majority of the players here play Tree of Savior mainly because of the gameplay, features, community, and etc. that it brings to the table and not the story as of yet because the story has still yet to be developed/properly localized.

In conclusion, it may be best off to use the Korean -> English -> Other languages path as a placeholder for a much more expanded and faster content beta test and then using up the time after that for the localization progress in order to deliver a much better story.

Yeah tbh all I care about is that I can understand what a quest wants me to do. I haven’t read a line of text after the “omg ur the savior of world, thanks plz kill 4 onions now”.
