I’m having a similar thought yet in want sap or hunt instead of ranger
Yeah Sapper/Hunter route hasn’t been explored as much as Ranger I’m sure you can figure something out that suits your playstyle.

nothing much I can help but Ima new cannoneer here and I think Fletcher does much more damage so far or Im just not using my cannoneer correctly haha
Its pretty simple. If you go cannoneer you will be an AOE monster, but your single target DPS will be lower.
If you go fletcher C3 or Musketeer, you still got decent AOE but, your single target damage will be a lot, lot better.
Its up to personal preference which you pick, there is no “right” answer for this question.
My personal opinion is that fletcher c3 is the best option, followed by musketeer and cannoneer.
