You are making a great deal out of nothing. With the release of the Latin American server, there should be less mixed languages in the international server chat. This is a closed beta test, IMC has better things to test than how community behaves in a global chat. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it should not be looked into, but rather saying that there are other things with a much higher priority. Things like this should be left to OBT. I suggested something after this wall of text that might help minimize the toxicness of the chat.
I was Alpaca in one of those screenshots, and as I was saying, “It’s funny when you think about this chat’s evolution, it went from players asking for help the first day”, and what I said next but is not shown “to Game of Languages, where every player has joined a language faction and is fighting for the iron throne.”.
The racism and xenophobia, personally, bother me very little (seriously, if you have played other online multiplayer games at all you should have learned to ignore these things), what bothers me however, is that they take up so much of Shout’s space that people with actual questions have a difficult time getting answered.
Your screenshots depict the acts of english-speakers mainly against brazillians, with a few exceptions such as the one reffering to the jews, but I want to assure you that non-english speakers are no better. I’ve witnessed brazillians insulting the americans in portuguese as much as english-speakers have been insulting brazillians in english.
Shout is cancer right now, I see brazillians insulting AMERICANS, and americans insulting BRAZILLIANS. I understand both languages because I’m from Portugal.
You know what will stop this cancer from spreading? Making Megaphone only acquirable through the Cash Shop.
Tip to avoid /shout:
While typing, there’s a little gear inside the textbox, on the right. Click it and there should be an option to disable shouts appearing on top. Now, never go to “All” chat and /shout will no longer be an eyesore. Enjoy.
TL;DR:
Fault is on both sides, they are insulting each other in their own language or both parties speaking english so a flame war breaks out.
Suggestions to fix this:
- Greatly reduce the number of players by making Megaphones costly, requiring €€/$$/££ to use, possibly after the official release
- Separate shout chat from top announcements
- Make regional chats [chats that only affect players on that map, but all the channels]
- Create different shout channels with the corresponding language
- And of course, upon official release, recruit Chat Moderators for every language.
