Question: How to deal with 15-20 level gap boss in mission?

Hi fellow swordies

As a swordsman (i’m a dragoon btw), how do you deal with the mission boss if you are in the lower end (15-20 levels gap)? I’m kinda having a hard time due to long animation of skills and the need to evade. I’m ending up like a sitting duck whenever my hp goes down to 1/4 since I usually gets hit whenever i try to attack.

Oh, IMC ■■■■■■ this one badly for us.
We’re the ones who need to get close-combat and even tank those bosses, and then the Party System puts 4 low levels, including us, and a high lv Pardoner.
Like wtf, these are the worst.
The only counsel I can give you is to bring High-lv HP Pots.

Yeah for now people that are really under leveled get absolutely destroyed but they did say that they’ll be changing the penalty if you look at this Q&A

haha, actually i turn off my provoke and avoid tanking the boss if i am at this kind of situation. the funny thing is i can read the boss next attack but i’m either stuck or have a delayed reaction due to the pause after the skill. (not sure if the pause is in my end like latency?)

i do a hit-and-run tactic but to no avail, since it doesn’t land all the damage. i can only dish damage if we have a cleric. haha

but i guess you are right, a high level hp pot would help in situation without cleric.

@dDesu
yeah, i read that. I was thinking if there maybe something you guys are doing as a work around while we wait for that system enhancement?

been there lots of time, and this depends on your built

for common High STR-CON / High CON Sword

  1. bring high level HP pots
  2. press C whenever you see an attack
  3. manual evade
  4. swash and run
  5. carry soul gem

PS : Best not to turn on Finestra, mole/tree can 1 combo KO if you are unlucky

for weird DEX fellows

  1. pray to RNG (optional : turn on DoV)
  2. tank like a boss
  3. carry soul gem when you die like a boss

one thing tho, IMC screws up the EXP penalty, you get almost nothing if you tank a 20++ lvl Siau boss, been there, done that

i’m a STR CON swordie.
i do 1 (you are talking about condensed hp right?) and 2, 3, 5. my problem with press C is the pause i’m getting, sometimes it takes a while before my character guard. (probably my latency).

yeah, @nuclearmissile mentioned to queue again. I was kinda torn in doing that because of the silver (you know, it is still silver) haha

anyway, i guess we just have to deal with it while we wait.

thanks guys.

Lets not struggle a worthless run. One needs to take the first step and leave. That is usually the least masochistic player.

Back at topic, I can say it is not just Pardoner being the highlvl. Basically, any support oriented build produces the same problem. With my PD, I am fine being the lowest, but being the highest often screws the run. And guess what? Since most archers can solo missions, they do so, leaving the unfunny runs to us.

yup lvl 10 and above condensed HP pot

about press C. it’s not your latency, it’s the server’s, sometimes, the damage is in even when our animation is showing guard. I play on INA server tho, so I don’t know if its better in yours.
Since you are STR-CON pressing C is much more safer than manual evade IMO

or the most ■■■■■■■ one, once a +24 lvl hoplite tank left as soon as he knows he was paired with 4 others 20 lvl below him. That was the hardest mission I have ever run (and no cleric in party too)

Well I’d just get carried. You do what you can and then you sit in the corner of the screen sipping your condensed Lv10s. :expressionless:

he was a tank, and he left us to die.
Lots of other players, even frail 9k archers who were higher leveled than the rest of the party stay to help

Anyone who think its okay to leave whenever he gets a lower leveled party is a douche

I find its better if I got the aggro.
so I can easily evade the boss attacks. really golem, tree and mole attack are so easy to dodge.
the only problem will be poata, you should just sit on the corner for this one. or just focus on the tree after defeating mole, and let your pt member kill poata.
his 360 degree scream spam is really broken for melee.

you don’t, I usually end up doing nothing since even dodge rate fails me if I was gapped by 15 levels. So you pretty much use your strongest skill when you can and run away from the boss. Also prevent dying especially if the boss is about to die because you will NOT GET EXP if you are dead when the boss died.

The largest gap I have experienced is just lv10, so my words might not count as a real answer…

Since I chose Swordsman2 instead of Peltasta, when I have to tank bosses, all I can do is first draw bosses’ attention by using damaging skills, then read the attacks and dodge it. If there is a chance to attack, just do normal attacks, whose function is only to keep bosses’ attention on me. I find this method is less likely to make mistakes, whether they are due to my own fault or the low latency or whatsoever. And this is very important when tanking 10 level higher bosses, coz one mistake is an instant death for me :sob:

It won’t be too difficult if my teammates are willing to deal one boss at a time. To tank both poata and mole is just a pain in the ass even when their level are lower. The combination of poata & tree is not too scary tho.

Turn off provoke, kite.

Tenno Heika Banzai.
Sorry im just a 30k+HP tank

one thing I forgot to mention,

Tank those bosses 1 by 1, pull them to the other room if necessary. this is both for DEX or CON tank, when the level gap is above 15, you pull them 1 by 1.
If those nuisance archers/wizz say they rather have them grouped together for easy kill. IGNORE THEM. tank them 1 by 1

This^, honestly a lot of party are too gung-ho into killing bosses to even try to strategize.

Much pro DPSs, I always pull Poata their way in attempt to kill’em assholes, with a 30-60% of succeeding in such 20+lvl gaps.
Do this too for afkers.
