Question about weapons

I’m planning to make a fencer, but I am doubting my path.

So I am planning to go Swordsman - Highlander - Highlander - Highlander - Barb - Fencer

Will I have weapon issues in Fencer? Will I be able to use my highlander/barb skills even when equipped with rapier? or do I need to switch to 2h sword.

According to the ToS Base skill simulator, the only skill that requires a 2H stance is Cross Guard so, if this information is accurate, you’ll be fine.

Give a check on the character simulator and also on the wiki, when you search for the skills , it says what “required Stance” (weapons) are needed to use that skills.

Example: cross guard from Highlander use TwoHandedSword = you need a two handed sword to use this skill.

Catar Stroke also from Highlander use NONE = ANY WEAPON CAN BE USED

so check skills and req. stances when making a build, with this in mind you can spread your horizons when making builds. (sorry if sounded a jerk)

Most of highlander and barbarian have none as req. stance , thats why people aways say that both are usefull in any Swordsman build.

Oh that really sounds great. With that being said I can even go Dragoon wc is what I really want. I don’t wanna mess up my build and start over again.

Much thanks for the info

Going Dragoon though will make you unable to use Fencer skills when using a 2H spear while using a Rapier will make you unable to use Dragoon skills. If you are good at speedily tapping into your keyboard for the weapon switch shortcut and get decent pings on NA servers then it’s still a viable path for you even if you suffer with the fact that you have to switch weapons often to use all your skills.

Yes I know. If I’ll be going Dragoon, I’m planning on :

Swordsman - Highlander - Highlander - Highlander - Barb/Hoplite - Barb/Hoplite - Dragoon

This way I can use all skills even when wielding 2h spear right?

I can personally say that all skill will work on dragoon on the hoplite route, as for Barb though IDK cause I never checked/gave it interest due to being too mainstream haha

Yes, you’ll be able to use all Highlander/Barbarian/Hoplite skills with a 2h Spear except Cross Guard and Synchro Thrusting, that requires 1h Spear/Sword + Shield.

So wait you can potentially make a hoplite using a 2h sword to stab instead of a spear, and just switch to a spear to turn finestra on?

Yes, but I see no purpose in this, since Finestra will potentially deal more damage with Spears because of constant crits.

So with skills like Stabbing and Pierce it will work better.

But does finestra go off if you turn it on with a spear and then switch weapons?

Yes, it does. Since it only works with specific weapon type, it goes off instantly, if switched.

Ah okay, nvm then  I thought of 2h swords on finestra going into redel and stuff on doppel 2 xD

Yeah, thought so. Just as I said, it hardly has any synergy.

Still, go for it, if you want it.

Okay then, another concept. Does cross guards stagger double incoming hits on mobs or is that not a thing anymore?

It’s a thing, actually. So Cross Guard + Lunge with automatic Weapon Swap will give you a crapload of additional damage.

Many on Korea are using this tactic.

Wait, does it swap weapons automatically if you use a skill that uses a different weapon set!?

Yes, it’s a new feature that was already implemented.

However, be careful with Cross Guard, as it sometimes doesn’t work, so you have to swap weapons manually. It’s still a very useful synergy combo, though.

The problem is, it won’t swap back to 2h automatically upon using stabbing I don’t think if it works as I assume it does  not like the damage with 1h spear would be much worse though.

Damn, how on earth can I possibly make it work? I’m drawing a blank here  I wouldn’t have enough time to recast finestra I don’t think plus it would be shitty if I would. I will just rely on others to have crossguard and then stack damage when I see the debuff popping up, there’s no way I can see to have it work with a hoplite well.

It’s pretty easy to use, actually. Cross Guard has attribute that enhances the time the enemy becomes staggered. 3 more seconds on top of default time.

Like, you use Cross Guard, then swap to Spear, use Finestra, then Lunge, then Stabbing.

Sometimes it’s hard to pull off, but you just need to practice.
