I don’t know if it is a bug, but if we shouldn’t be able to kill higher levels monster, I still found a way, not for leveling purpose though as it takes too much time (maybe for loot then?). The main purpose of this post is to understand if the mechanics are meant to be like that.
Normally, you can’t kill much higher level monsters than you, but burning them will cause them damage. I don’t know how burn damage is calculated but you deal more than 1 damage.
I encountered a blue lemuria monster level 197, so I decided to give it a try.
I actually used the reflect shield immortality to accelerate the process of killing the monster but you can easily kite the monster without taking any damage and let the monster burn
Notice that the monster lost his blue color after havin received a burn effect. (wonder if for other players it is the same)
I got 2 levels and a class job after killing one of the highest blue level monster offered by the beta (the highest I met was a level 200 field boss). It took me 20 min though and meeting a blue monster is me being lucky.
Now, why did I put Linker class in my tag ? Because I discovered a way to multiply the burn damage to monsters.

You can see that the monsters linked gets more damage from the burnt monster for some reason. I don’t know why it works that way but you can do around 100 to 200 damage per dot per monsters.
The problem is that it is kinda hard to kill them this way because monsters don’t have the same move speed and when you aggro several monsters it gets harder to cast fireball without getting hit and oneshotted. It still reduce the amount of time to kill them a lot by knowing this.
I also don’t know how aggro works in this game but theorically, with a team consisting of a linker and players that can burn the monster, you should be able to kill monster a lot faster since you wouldn’t need to wait between cool downs. You just have to have one player kiting the monsters and be careful if the aggro changes. I would have loved to try a team like this but it was already the end of the beta
