I am an average-paying player. (I pay up for long-term games)
Here are the facts of my current standing.
A) I primarily play F2P, though I do own B2P games.
B) I really like FFXIV (reminds me of FFXII, my favourite FF)
C) I did not and do not intend to ever buy FFXIV. It cost more to play it than my time can afford.
D) Even now that I have WAY more than enough disposable income to pay for FFXIV, I do not buy it.
E) I am a casual player. (nowadays)
Putting all these togetherâŚ
I generally donât think P2P makes sense for a casual player.
F2P is universally accepted, though imperfect as a model.
B2P is⌠not very different from F2P, really.
Pay to Play
P2P will heavily restrict potential players of the game, I am opposed to it.
(itâs the reason I didnât get to play RO when I was young. I couldnât afford to play)
Free to Play
F2P has its own problems but there at least are ways around them.
Path of Exile is perhaps the most ideal example, though I also think many other games achieved it, up to the point they added really greedy bonus purchases with a lot of âhey this is exclusive and its shiny no other way to get it buy it with money nowâ stuff.
What is the biggest difference is there between P2P and buying the convenience in a F2P cash shop?
That it feels bad for the non-paying players? They actually get to play this gameâŚ
Buy to Play
B2P⌠I have no heavy opinions on B2P. I only play one B2P mmorpg and thatâs GW2. (which I think is a good game)
(that being sad, B2P will actually have a form of restriction for some players, too. Money is not always available)
p.s. If you mention heavy-P2W as in buy-for-infinite gear advantage, sorry, I canât take you seriously.
That hasnât been a thing in so long that itâs now just a stain on F2P history.
While it does exist still, itâs not a popular thing and I highly doubt it would be done here.
Every time it comes around itâll receive heavy backlash and large numbers of players leaving the game.
If PvP is to be successful in this game, such things will be absolutely trashed by the community, so we can leave that to that.
Additional note
Case in point, I would most likely buy lots of character slots, cosmetic outfits and event exclusive items with cash if I find the game (or my personal community/guild/etc) worthwhile.
Believe it or not, F2P games have lived off much less and IMC can do much more without risking losses.
(Things like VIP accounts for more convenience or bonus guild cosmetics, I consider acceptable items.)
