Please stop the chat filter from deleting entire messages!

Okay, first thing I want to say is that having a chat filter really doesn’t bother me. I don’t care what words you want to censor, and I really don’t care if there is an option to turn the filter on or off.

HOWEVER. The fact that the game will delete an ENTIRE MESSAGE with something it thinks has a dirty word in it is completely unacceptable.

Replace the letters of the words you don’t like with asterisks, DO NOT DELETE THE ENTIRE MESSAGE. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to type out a 3-4 line sentence only to have “" appear, and nothing else? Oh, my message had clASS in it. Oh, that one had suSPICious. Like really? Let the message go through with class written as "cl*” or “su****ious” I don’t really care. At least people will be able to see my message and we can have proper conversations.

As it is, the chat filter actually actively prevents active conversation with other players, and most of the time I don’t even see a notification of which word was banned in the sentence (which would be nice so I could try to reword my sentence maybe?). So, many times, all I can do is give up, because I don’t even know how I should rewrite my message to avoid having it blocked, since I don’t know what “word” it picked up.

This is GAME BREAKING for me. The social aspect is a big part of an MMO, and not being able to have proper conversations with people is extremely frustrating and makes me just want to turn off the game and walk away at times.

Please rethink the way you implement the filter so that it does not impede people that are trying to have normal conversations.

I would love an option to turn the filter completely off. Just put a disclaimer when you select the option, that turning it off waives IMC of any legal responsibility for perceived wrongs in the chat or something. But honestly, I’m okay with there being no option to turn the filter off as long as it does not delete entire messages.

Thank you.

agree, is supper annoying typing a long line and have it disappear cause you forgot to say job instead of class in a game where it’s called a class :expressionless:

Yea they really need to dial back the chat filter or give a option to turn off the senor for your self.

The most frustrating part is when you’re trying to explain something to somebody in the game. You can’t say in chat, many words that are often used in game. Cockatrice is the name of a monster, one that actually drops items needed for several recipes and is the focus of several quests outside the mage tower, and if somebody has a question, you can’t use that word in chat! How are you supposed to communicate properly and help people if you can’t even type out the focus of their problem without it getting your entire message deleted? And not only that, the person you were trying to help might even think you swore at them instead of trying to help them! It’s terrible!

Another couple of problem words are “assassin” (even if this isn’t a class in the game right now, it could very well be at some point down the road, either as a main class, or one of the hidden ones) and I’m sure the word assassin will come up at some point during quests down the road, even if it hasn’t already or anything.

And of course, the most obvious one. Class. Certain words really need to be completely exempt from the word filter regardless of the format they choose to go with in the end. It’s going to look really stupid if messages are forever edited to “cl***” or “******in” for the duration of the game’s life.

On a slightly more humorous (but completely relevant) note, when I posted this topic, and was trying to tell my friends in game, “Hey, go look at the new topic I posted in the general feedback section of the forums and see if you agree” it got blocked. As did every subsequent message with the same general idea. I have no idea what got it blocked, but I was laughing pretty hard at the irony.

It may not be a class name but it is in the name of several monsters.

I couldn’t even use the word Master in my character name despite us having around 80 class masters that use master in their names.

The game shouldn’t identify PARTS of a word as complete offensive words. Period.
Specially when said words are three characters long.

This would be a good fix. I vote for it to be repaired. If you hit TAB when typing to change from all to whisper/shout/party/etc your message is completely erased.

The adult filter sometimes breaks things. I think it should be avoided, let people speak up and if they abuse they can be reported by the players and banned by the staff. ALSO there is already a blacklist/block player option so having a adult filter makes no sense because people who wants to call names will do it either with filter or not.

It’s all about the audience they’re aiming for. They want young kids to be able to play without parents going “oh my god, there are people swearing” but it doesn’t need to delete whole messages. Simply blocking the detected words with asterisks is more than good enough.

I think parents will complain from the moment the kid launch the game and every time he meats a goddess :expressionless:

filters should be an option for the receiver and not a punishment to the sender…

I understand but parents should be with their younger kids on the internet and teach them to report those persons who abuses the same way they teach them they shouldn’t talk to strangers in real life.

I believe that instead of building a bubble around them they should use the opportunity to present life as how it is. They’ll understand and be ready for the risks and take action.

Agreed. Chat filtering in this game is ridiculous right now.

Since this game is rated T, teenagers can handle a lot of the words filtered out that are meant to be used in larger words. Filtering out “ass” is especially annoying because a lot of words, especially “class” contain it. We have to dodge the filter just to get our meaning across and it’s dumb.

Yup. That’s exactly my point.

Conversation with friend :
Derp A : hey how u link item to chat box?
Derp B : sit down, press enter then hold crtl button+left click the item

What actually happen :
Derp A : hey how u link item to chat box?
Derp B : **

feel like i was reply my friend with fvck instead of answer to her question.
and need to retype whole chat again :scream:

Yup. Had that experience so many times.

You can’t say “butt”. Come on, seriously? 5 year olds can say butt.

They should build new filters with each regions communities and stop using old hashes.

All companies do it all the time using the people to get things done free disguising it as something else. Just use the players for more than what we have been already getting used for.

Errr, I mean, yes I agree, it’s frustrating as heck.

Hey, you can actually say HELL and not get censored!

yes this is very much annoying especially when you get into one of those chatty conversations where you actually indulge on a conversation. I rarely even join or jump into conversations but so imagine how I felt when i go into conversations and started typing long messages in the moment only to be able to spurt out ** in the end. totally chatblocked.

I totally agree with the turn off filter with the discalimer option because thats what we had on an old mmo I used to play but with the way these censors are working. I’d totally settle for just the words themselves getting **-ed. the added stress from casually chatting is honestly annoying + the effort of having to retype them when you don’t realize which word was it that censored you.
