Please, dont use the Quests as a Tour medium (No infiQuestChain)

One of the things that have been putting me off of rpgs lately is the ability to go from lvl 0 to maxlevel by grinding quests of “go here”,“look at this”, “kill X monster” and “defeat X boss”…one or two of those are fine but dont base the entire game on that concept, let us explore and decide for ourselves whats the best place to farm or what road we should take. Ohter way, it just feels like a tour in Disneyland and not like a game.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before. Thanks for reading.

Totally agree with you, but modern market and human psychology does not =/ Guiding players is easy way to set up and measure player progression, putting paywalls at right place. It’s also easier way to design games, more predictable I’d say.

Tos is more about grinding yourself ^^
There seems to be some leveling with quests at the start, but from a certain points what will level you will be your grinding and not the quest themselves for the biggest parts.

While repeating and simple quests are bad, how do you fill 500+ levels of content? Also, the game IS about fighting, after all.

Thats because they disable lots of the side quests.

This ^, for a F2P game you think they have money and time to spare on dynamic content? And how much codding that would be?

i think questing is better tan grinding, i mean wasting hours and hours killing the same mob spawn over and over and over is boring as hell ._.
i like quests, theyre funnier

I believe whatever ToS have on hand now isn’t the end content… There will be patches and updates etc…

With kToS extreme exp rates, you can’t even just do quests alone.

That’s why i wrote “[…] fill 500 plus levels of content?”.

The game used to be highly quest-oriented and would have been the primary way of getting to max level, but the developers changed that after the 2nd kCBT.

Most of the quests are now hidden, so you don’t need to worry about the game holding your hand to get you to max level. You must explore the world on your own and find your own way of getting to max level - whether that be through hidden quests you find from talking to random NPCs or through grinding.

Q) The quests in the game are not too exciting.

A) We concluded that the reason why the quests feel somewhat boring is because the game is supplying too many quests

Instead of supplying too many quests that are lacking in their purposes and meanings, we believe that it will be more meaningful for players to search for the quests enthusiastically themselves so we are planning to hide most of the quests

Do you realize that you need the same amount of content to fill a game with quests than to not do it, right?.
They just need to distribute the exp you would normally receive from excessive quests into monster exp, it’s that simple. That way, you are shifting the attention to grinding instead of doing repetitive quests.

I hope it stays this way, because if not I’ll get bored pretty quickly like I did with all the “modern” rpgs.

That’s awesome…but are quests the most effective way of leveling, still?

I’m not shifting anything anywhere. I only pointed out that in a game about fighting, you also have - mostly - quests about fighting. What do you want instead? Detective stories?

The only quest system that i liked are Ragnarok’s one and Skyforge right now. Why? 'cause it’s always about background. Main quests are about the main background, and side quest about global background additional informations. For ragnarok it was like that until they added repetable quests.

I don’t get it. Why would questing get boring if it’s telling a story? I mean sure if you’re doing it for the exp it can get boring but if you’re just following the story its telling you, I think it’d be fine.

If you’re looking at it as effective leveling, I can see why it’d get boring but grinding on your own in a spot would seem like the same thing but with less exp from the side quest .-. just my opinion on this.

Exactly. Quests are not just “do x”, everything can be dumbed down to something simple. Adventures, for example. Find x and use it on y, maybe combine it with z."

I think they are hidding the side quests, well at least most of them, but if they do that to the main quest the lore will be lost lol.

Yeah, thats one thing that can be done.

The only thing i dont want this game to become is another Redstone Online, the game level cap is 1000 and you barely see people at level 600, even so, it took them almost 4-5 years to get there, now the game is basicaly dead, because to reach on level 100 it take days and the game barely have quests worth doing it.

It all comes down to personal taste…ofc, Id rather have quests with story than “do X”, “collect Y”, “kill Z”(the ones I’m complaining about on the OP)…but I dont play games entirely because of their story, I want gameplay too, I want freedom…If I want to read/watch a good story I go and read a book/watch a movie.

From my experience in similar games, quests are simply a means to an end, and that end is leveling up.
Why do I keep playing NG++++ on Torchlight 2? Is it because the quests are omg so fun go kill everything and bring stuff back!? Is it because the storyline is 2deep? No, I complete the quests to earn bonus XP and progress my character. Same thing with replaying Champions of Norrath, Return to Arms, The Elder Scrolls Series (to a certain extant,) etc etc.
