Dear Developers (and the GMs/CMs who will be passing it onto them):
This game is rated T for Teen. This means a filter should be optional, and you should be able to turn it off. Things like “the ‘F’ word” and $#!+ should be censored, sure, but that comes with the rating. Look at other T games, or Anime, or TV shows with the same ratings… Those are the only two (in the English versions, anyway) that get censored. Racial, Anti-LGBTA, and sexist slurs should be censored, sure, as well as sexual words, but give us the option to turn it off if we want. We understand the risk. Harm can be done without those censored words, they just have to be a bit more creative.
If you can’t give us the option to turn it off, then quit being so lazy about your censorship. Code it to censor based on exact words, not censoring half a word that isn’t even vulgar, or an entire word because it contains what you consider vulgarity (like animalistix_2000’s point of how “class” is censored because of “ass”). If you made your censor filter EXACT words, regardless of upper/lower case, then you could also make an active (active as in you’re gonna have to add to it every day most likely) filter for RMT Chat Bots that you see in town.
Oh, and the “For the kids” argument is just an argument used when people cannot think of something more creative, simply because the person they oppose will feel guilty, because, ya know, sympathy for children. It is not, however, foolproof, nor is it a valid argument to make for an ESRB-Rated T-For-Teen game.
