That really depends on the Resolution, and not just game settings. 1 GB cards from yesteryear are going to choke at 1080p or higher.
Itâs his ceiling budget however we only help him in his decisions. He did say he only have basic knowledge in PC. Some can be used for upgrading and the others can be used for maintenance, spare parts, or even for future upgrades.
It is a good start to have a budget that plenty. I have some people walking up to me having a budget of $100 to $300 to build a rig, asking to play triple A title games in ultra settings. Makes me contemplating my life.
The OS is OK, Win 7 is still one of the best OS.
Processor I think is OK too, but if you want to upgrade it, I would recommend the Intel i5 4440. But if you upgrade the CPU, you must upgrade the motherboard.
The 4GB RAM is almost like a limit for gaming. Itâs OK, but I would upgrade to 8GB.
GPU I think is OK, I donât know much of 550 Ti, but if you want to upgrade, the GTX 970 will be great, runs all my games at ultra and 75 FPS, I bought mine for 329 USD (December 2015)
Also, watch out for the power supply. If you want to upgrade the CPU or GPU, get a compatible PSU.

Iâm no pro since I only had started building mine a year ago, but I did some research so here I will give you advice. Go for Intel cause per core of Intel is more powerful than amd. Amd do have processors that have more cores but games today will only utilize 2 to 4 cores but other task like 3d rendering, AutoCAD, video editing will utilize more than 4 cores so if you do those things then consider amd fx proce. Amd also focus on having better integrated graphics APU which is cheaper, but in your budget you are better on buying dedicated gpu.
GPU nvidia is more expensive than amd, but amd do heat more than nvidia so IMO go for nvidia. Do not buy gddr3 cards and 2g gddr5 you can play most games today mid to high, but you said you wanted it that you can play games in 2-5 yes time so go for 4gig gddr5.
Do not skip on power supply buy true rated, ask for 80+ bronze gold plat etc seal, if it donât have those seal they are not true rated like Korea brands. For brands I go for sea sonic but it just me.
Yes, go for ssd you will feel the diff 1-5seconds boot then your gaming.
Motherboard, I think this one you can buy the cheapest that is compatible with your procie, unless you are considering overclocling your provide or if you consider SLI (more than 1 card in 1 mobo.
Ram, 8 gig is enough for today but it wonât hurt buying another 8gig since ram is one of the cheapest parts right now.
I just wanna point out that Tos during beta is poorly optimized so donât expect high fps on towns or field boss I heard it has something to do with tons only using directx9, so even if yoy u have a beastly machine donât expect too much.
Last building PC is addicting once you build one you will for a way to upgrade your rig even just installing led strips just to make it cool Lol. I have built my PC cause I wanna improve my gaming experience, but today I have more passion in building rig than gaming, I mostly use high end games for be cark and I donât even finished most of them. Beware this term PC master race will swallow you and will make you one of us, welcome âPC master raceâ.

Change the i5 for a Skylake, try to go with ddr4, you donât need this Power Supply, CX 500(Corsair is overpriced there o.o) would be sufficiently. Go with a r9 380 not a r9 270x

Donât get mislead by higher numbers of newer generations because thatâs where people usually go wrong and spend more than they need to.

Why a 4460, why not get a i5-xxxx or i7-xxxx instead?
Simple answer really, that i5 is a solid CPU that both boasts itsself as the #1 budget favorite CPU and has all the performance you need. Overclocking is not that important and should not be considered for your average/every day gamer.
GTX 960?
Yes a GTX 960, because itâs the top 1080p performer that nvidia managed to â â â â out. Not to mention nVidiaâs superior driver support since Windows 7 got released. For solid 60FPS in a majority of games (and triple A titles) a 960 can get you ways ahead people.
Why no DDR4?
Please explain to every person in this thread why anything thatâs faster than 1600mhz is needed for an average basic gaming system/work station. OP is not gonna be rendering in blender or maya. 1600 MHz is fine and the generation difference wonât make him miss out on anything.
Wait! This build only has an SSD!
Well, maybe OP has his own HDD he can carry that over. He also can always choose for a 500gb SSD instead of a 250, Samsung has reliable NAND chips and the 850 EVO is the best on the market for its price.
Why no custom cooler?
OP is not gonna overclock, OP is not gonna run 24/7 CPU stressing benchmarks. A Stock cooler will keep it nice and cool, though it will be louder than a simple air cooling.
600W power supply?!
This is just an example, usually I would suggest not shying away from paying too much on your power supply because it is the ONE component in your entire system that can either destroy it or have it run like a good proud rare horse breed.

I think is a little overkill use the i7-4790K if you wonât use overclock, nor programs that use hyper thread (video and audio editors, codingâŚ), for only gaming purposes, i5 4440 is a best bang for the buck CPU, but Iâm sure the i7-4790k will last longer.
DDR4 has been shown to consistently help in certain CPU bottlenecks. SO there is no reason to not get it. Especially since DDR3 is gonig to get more expensive as time goes by.
Also, the 380X beats the 960 in to the ground. Why would you even reccmmend it outside of driver support?
That Power supply is overkill and isnât even the best choice for the wattage. You should definitely spend the money on a quieter, and more efficient supply.
What CPU bottlenecks? CPU bottlenecks are rare and would not impact everyday use besides small numbers. Nowadays itâs not something you get worried about.
Also the reason I suggest the 960 is because itâs cheaper than de 380X in most regions in the world. And you should never shy for a power supply. There is no overkill when it comes to power supplies and your argument makes no sense. You make it sound as if 600W power supplies pull 600W, in case you didnât know and I hope you do know, they do not. We are talking about a budget system, not high-end gaming or work station devices.
CPU Bottlenecks happen in MMOs All the time
Also, there is overkill with Power Supplies. Many supplies do not reach rated efficiency if not loaded properly. Not to mention some supplies do not have proper protection vs power surges and other anomalies.
Ripple Supression is also important, especially when it comes to HDDs and Sound Cards.
Not to mention Fans, which become an annoyance in low powered and quiet systems. The Platinum, and Passively cooled, Power Supply I linked above would be more than adequate for years to come.
And he would only pay 60$ more for that quality of life. Seriously, who would not want to make sure that the most important component of their system is actually high quality?

It never said expensive power supplies sucked. But this is still a thread with a budget. 60 dollars more could mean a lot for him. If you are thinking of âHe is paying 700 already why not 60 more?â thatâs a silly argument which is just an excuse to spend more.
Paying 60$ more On the most important, and mission critical component in your entire computer is, arguably, something far more worth considering. Besides, the Power Supply can, almost always, be re-used when you build a new system.
THis is, also, why you get DD4, because it will become the standard and can be re-used when you upgrade down the line.
