Opinions & Accountability

We’ve had confusion over these for awhile… and I’m bored (enough).
(also I want to be less accountable for indirectly poking people. <- hypocrisy)
Enjoy the pointless text wall.

Having an opinion doesn’t excuse what you say and do.
It’s fine to have your own opinion…
It’s also your choice to voice it.
You should still be aware, you are accountable for your actions.

Someone having a different opinion is not them being against you, it’s them being for themselves.
It’s a different opinion. They’re not trying to stifle your free speech. (most of the time)
Remember, for every opinion, there is also the opinion that your opinion is stupid.
The question is whether you plan to engage in a fight over someone seeming offensive to you.
(even if they were, you’d be jumping the gun at every rude comment…)

An opinion is not an excuse, it’s a reason.
Is your reason… reasonable? I:
i.e. Someone being rude because they have an opinion… is probably unreasonable as a common standard.

The judge of validity for your stated opinion is anyone & everyone.
Unless you really only said something so you can read it yourself.
Otherwise, it’s (usually) to communicate and is henceforth for others to decide, too.
Including the people who were not the target of communication.
If a cop overheard you telling someone you killed a hobo… I’m pretty sure he’s also part of that communication… whether you intended it or not. It is not you who decides if he’s part of it.
(you do have some control over this… but don’t expect to tell other people to shut up because they have an opinion that you think invalid. think/say it all you want, they have that opinion and to them, you’re usually not big enough of a deal to make them quiet down…)

You are the sole judge, jury and master of your opinion.
When it hasn’t left your mouth. (or whatever you use to communicate with)

Chill
This is advice.
I’m not saying to be lethargic or easygoing.
The advice is that you should always be calm.
In anger, despair, joy and fear, do not forget to be calm.
(p.s. yeah, Summer Wars with variations, same meaning.)

You… YOU’RE A STUPID HEAD you no be no mod. I can say whatever I… oh wait that’s what your post is about… nvm :smiley: No clue why this topic is needed when “The Internets” has always been wonky and cancerous.

I do wonder why almost all internet arguments eventually degrade to name calling and asserting their opinions to the point of … well just giving even the non-participants a headache from reading the posts.

@Garrnett
I’m not wondering why.
Leave that to the scientists!
The scientists will discover why and then proceed to tell us it’s some incurable disease humanity has.
Like chicken pox. (is chicken pox incurable? I always thought it just ‘went away’)

The blah reason is “because we can”.

Maybe a self governing feature like being able to flag players? But then again that can easily be abused by arguing parties.

But …

@thebloodyaugust
Self-governed communities!
That would have to be on the premise that a community actually has some notion of respect for itself.
Not that these don’t exist, of course.
We’ve all (hopefully) had experience with communities which are 95% kindness and 5% opinion-poking.

Well to be fair the majority of people on these forums are alright. Maybe not 95 - 5 probably more like 80 - 20 on these forums. But its usually not to bad until a thread gets huge then descends into a mess.

@thebloodyaugust
I mean kindness as in friendly rather than neutral.
Treating people as though they’re close friends or people you want to help without making them dislike you.
Avoiding touchy matters or aggression by nature.
That sort of nonsense.

We don’t really respect ourselves as a community enough to do that, do we?
I don’t think I do right now, at least.
(not that I would anyway, I’m too busy trying to enjoy myself and raising my teensy amount of popularity without actually saying anything useful)

popularity = total likes.

p.s. Current goal is to catch up to FatePGN, who has more likes based on informative feedback.

So what you’re saying is, people should be held accountable for their opinions.

Wow, where are we? Ancient Roma?

Good luck that man shits gold bricks of information. Is there some kind of reward on popularity that makes you want it?

@rhedewayhke
I’m not sure. (my historical knowledge is lacking)
What does Ancient Roma have to do with accountability?

@thebloodyaugust
I’m just bored.
Pretty sure that’s the #1 most common reason to do anything that isn’t productive.
The #2 being to avoid doing things you don’t want to do. (which are often productive)

I guess you can make up reasons if you want.
I think someone mentioned before it’s because I like attention.
That’s probably true, but I doubt I like it enough to actually work for it.

p.s. The exact reason why PGN is the goal is because he’s a worthwhile goal.

You’re educated right?

@rhedewayhke
Yes, but government schools here don’t cover world history. (you can pick it up as a subject privately)
Our history lessons don’t extend much beyond the history of the country.
Everything I know, from the world wars, history of plagues and so on… is self-taught or picked up.
Ancient Rome is not one of the things I spent any amount of time learning about.

If you were actually educated you would have seen the point, aw well.

@rhedewayhke
Well, I’m apparently not educated in the case of Ancient Rome. Care to share?
Unless you mean to say that what I’ve said is outdated, old, invalid or otherwise obvious.
In which case, thanks for your time.

Hopefully this can change at least one person’s mentality. Too bad not enough people knows the word humility.

@ImLazyxD
If that’s all it took… man I should be charging people for this.

According to your logic, if a public figure says they hate someone, then others that like the public figure harass and or kill the guy they hate, then the public figure, which did nothing, should be held responsible for the actions of others that acted on the public figures words.

I’m not sure how you got that conclusion.
Could you show me where you got that idea from?
Well, I’ll clear up this misunderstanding.

In your example,
The ‘public figure’ can be held accountable for saying he hated someone.
Whether you think it is his fault that his fans did what they did, that’s pretty much irrelevant to me.
The fans are held accountable for their own actions, in this case, harassment or murder.
