Open World PK and Jail system

I hate being forced to PvP. One word: Archeage. It was a freaking mess from day one. There are so many griefers. It ruins the experience for other players who are more focused on other aspects of the game.

It’s not to say that I don’t enjoy PvP in certain circumstances, RO’s WoE was a great capture the flag-esque block of time back in the day. Battlegrounds in WoW. I don’t mind doing duels and wish more games had that feature. Or, another PvP focused game, Aion’s PvP areas/maps which were a big thing… but for those of us who want a bit more peace and quiet… you could go the leveling route.

True enough. I’ll take your word for it.

I love open world pvp, you dont even have to make it on a diff server. Just do what angels online did and make it for channel one. This way people who dnt want to participate can just change channels. And those who do can relish in the carnage. Plus open world pvp makes the role of a healer more desirable esp in goon squad groups.

Also no jail. Just let people who want to pk do their thing in another channel. I love ganking people land getting ganked. It adds an element of cautiousness to my otherwise, seem less grind.

Honestly I don’t think channels is the way to go for this type of thing. It means that it will exclusively be used for PKing without any actual interactions with other elements of the game. The appeal of OWPvP is that it can occur in any situation (except maybe towns), but if the entire server isn’t affected then they have no reason to use that channel when farming or anything like that.

Having a server for OWPvP means that it will have a meaningful interaction with the rest of the game, and that all the players involved have accepted the terms which come with playing in such an enviroment. With the attention ToS is drawing, it wouldn’t be too far out to say that there would at least be a significant interest in it.

Finally, picking on low level players is a sure way to get open world pvp started. We aren’t trying to bully people, we just know picking on lobbies will cause “white knights” to rise to the situation and we get what we want. A fight. (I don’t pick on low levels) but this is one reason people do it

I would personally just prefer an entire server for it, so everyone who is okay with the PK terms is in equal conditions and everyone needs to deal with it somehow, forcing people to socialize and team up.

It feels like just a channel for it would just be empty.
Well, unless there’s actually a benefit in this hypothetical PK (which would be a great idea too).

Maybe the PK channel having a +10% EXP?

Adding a pvp server means that the hard work people initially put into the pve server gets wiped and can essentiaLily separate players from their friends, who might not like pvp

Naw b, every game I’ve experienced with open world PK just alienates new players even with penalties. As even serious penalties can be bypassed in a f2p game by people who are willing to put in the effort.People make twinks to pick off low level players and gain rank, higher level organized players bully people in low level zones or grief people by denying access to zones, it makes leveling stressful since your progress can be inhibited by some kid who was just having a bad day and decided to take it out on people lesser experienced players.

It didn’t matter if I personally persevered and leveled up and didn’t followsuit or only PK’d people in my own range, the problems just never ended and it only coddles really toxic, immature behavior between people. Duels, Arenas, Guild vs Guild, all of that I have zero problem with but the few bad apples can ruin it for everyone else with open PvP and with the vast amount of CC skills, traps etc it’d potentially just make it hellish for anyone. It also doesn’t take anymore skill than an organized PvP match, it just adds a wildcard to your experience. Even in games like Dark Souls to put it into MMO perspective you’re running a single instance that gives you a warning when someone invades, here someone just runs up from off screen and catches you with your pants down. Not to mention leveling seems to be focused on mobbing as well which can lead to a few “accidents” between players not in the same party. I’d be open to some alternatives like specified zones that only offered sidegrades rather than vastly superior drops and EXP for those who enjoy the risk and challenge or a separate channel or even server entirely but forced PK is just a mess to balance and police properly.

Also on the idea of hiring players? For what? Why would a newbie have to go out of their way to give their silver or items to a higher leveled player for “protection”? These aren’t benefits, they’re workarounds. We don’t even know how the game will progress at this point and if it’ll have any features that makes playing with lowbies worth it(personally I think FF XIV handles this well) so that low level areas won’t be deserted once people grind to level cap, which is a problem most MMO’s face.

That’s true too.

I think I’ll go with your idea+mine about a little EXP benefit in playing in a risky PK channel.

I personally like jail systems. Probably because few games have it. Granado Espada back then had one, they have something like first offense, second offense etc. For first offense you have to kill x number of rats dwelling in the prison cell. You can’t be freed unless the requirements are met. It was cool because they got the punishment that they deserved.

pvp server sounds bit too old to me. if the developer aim to provide an open pk area, i guess they can try to allow players do it only in the night time :joy:

Wall of text Crits you for 1000 damage.

That’s true I suppose, but my biggest issue with it is that it might turn into a virtual ghost town due to players not using it as anything but a glorified arena. However, I haven’t experienced OWPvP centered around channels so take my worries with a grain of salt.

and if got caught and put in jail… unlocks a rank 8 job named legendary prisoner…LMAO

Only legendary? I’d practically live in the prison. Inb4 some one uses astral projection to pk from the prison xd

“Night time” is a very ambigous statement for an international server, considering the timezone differences between regions vary alot more.

Anything besides a limited server or channel for this wouldn’t turn out well with a lot of planning, but I wouldn’t be against it.

If there’s no pk then… What you’ll gonna do then? PVE for your whole life time in ToS? Battle against a very safe opponent (computer/AI) forever?

You cant be serious…

PK = yes for me
