seamless world mmos are rareâŚthe most popular seamless world mmo is Eve Online where you can travel as far as lightyears distance of space without loading screens. In eve the entire universe is 1 zone only and all 20,000+ players are in that 1 zone.
I never really consider open world games if theyâre made by imposing such restriction on the maps (such as artificial barriers/walls, loading screens, where to go, etc) as said on your quote, actually.
An example of a better open world to me would be World of Warcraft, though it still has high level instances.
RO does have some restrictions on that, if you all donât remember. Some high level places are only accessible after a certain level or quest.
I wont ever again mention RO, people will fight over it. I mean, i just wanted to express, how games that have that âFREEDOMâ feeling while playing, like runescape, or ultima, or even terraria. Quests are an asset but not a must !
I remember times when i logged just to see people walking around, and chat, simply as that, just chat, you could learn more chatting than actually playing. Just as we are doing it now.
Iâm not a game designer nor anything professional so i donât know any technical terms.
Just express how you feel about the game, what you wish, and you wish not.
Portals are not a mean of restriction but rather a mean of not making the game take 9999GB in your RAM XD And the point in Open World is not about being unable to enter specific places, itâs just about freedom of going where you want
Think something like Half Life or BioShock, they have a plot line that you HAVE to follow. You canât go back, you canât go left or right. Once you enter a new area and finish your role in it, you canât re-enter it. These were ALWAYS the case until some games started developing the âfreedomâ concept.
And as the rest of the replies mentioned youâre confusing Seamless World with Open World
And thus gamers made âSeamless Worldâ to represent these seamless games, but they are very few and for a good reason too⌠you canât really have an infinitely big world without having an infinite computer memory
ahâŚwhy arguing about ROâŚthis is TOS!
and RO ofc is an open world game although people stick to a certain route for leveling after so many years development.
u can freely enter a high level map without warning, isnt that a open world? plus, u can have so many map choices for leveling, though efficiency differs.
Ah, I understand. In that case my description does fit better in a âseamless worldâ. Fair enough.

Just to get back on topic, from what I saw on the videos ToS does give you the freedom to access many places⌠Iâm unsure of any restrictions (aside from instances?). Iâll be able to confirm that once KR cbt starts.
Personally, if i can move freely in an room, then thats an open world for me. The only difference is how big the room is, and how many interactables it has, really.
It would be better if they remove the âauto-click heading to your destination kind of thing tooâ, and the arrow that points out the direction youâre headed. I suggest something like this for a quest guide.
Is that flyff ?
Thatâs an example of what we should not do.
Flyff < a game âopen worldâ that had so much potential, but no, linear as hell, cash as hell, unbalanced classes. But hey ! They could fly (first game to do so) ! Amazing.
