The game is free to play… unsure what people expected? If you don’t want cash shop P2W items then play a P2P game.
F2P =/= P2W
But the truth is, if you have enough money, and things in the cash shop are trade able and in demand, you can become very rich, and just buy anything you want.
Sometimes I really miss P2P
The alternative is not having tradeable cash items, having illegal gold sellers, and having people still buying ingame money for cash anyway.
Looks like the detector and the shovel are the same as scout’s level 1 detect and alchemist’s level 1 dig respectively. Maybe the auto-revive is the same as priest’s level 1 revive too.
I wonder if the players will get the NXP when their characters get rented.
Didn’t say they are the same. Just its expected for free to play games to have pay to win items. The company needs to make money somehow.
I don’t think so, or else people will definitely abuse this system for free cash points
. Maybe the one being hired will get some ingame currency.
the core of gaming is having fun -i think
in other means that… losing some bucks for fun is necessary -i think
then if there’s no cash consumable thing, dev wont grow, the game stagnant, no update, etc
so… i will make my own game if didnt want to lose my money btw
I don’t see having a route to buy ingame/gold for cash by selling cash shop items as a problem really, it’s a solution to many problems in its own right.
-makes cash shop items available to non-cash players.
-works toward putting gold sellers out of business by letting players get ingame/gold by legal methods and puts that income onto IMC’s hands instead.
-inflate AH prices. This can compound the non-cash grind but it’s immediately compensated for by having the loot that grinding makes more valuable via increasing demand. (speeding up AH) and getting you more gold for your drops. The reverse presure that farming bots put on the market.
-provides another avenue for catch up for players that cant spend the grind time to make the money themselves. (Sure those with time and money will do this and be ahead of everyone. But that will happen nomatter what, or there would be no reward for spending time and money in the first place. XD)
Well, depending on your definition this can indeed be described as “pay to win” - but you should hold your horses until you know further information.
Instant revival for example: If it is only applicable to yourself, it will mostly only be useful for parties that have no cleric or for the cleric himself if he gets offed. Depending on conditions (Can it be used while “in combat”, how much does it heal you for, is there a cooldown on repeated uses of this item, does it revive you on the spot or at a nearby spawnpoint, etc tt)
If it can only be used on somebody else, you’d want to save if for when your healer bites the dust to prevent a party wipe. In this case there is also the question about how high the range of the item is, and if you can revive the same player several times in a row. There might even be a penalty “debuff” that prevents you from being revived by magic or items for an hour after using this to balance it out.
As to borrowing a character: Borrowing for combat or just to appear as said character? Is it at the same strenght or reduced stats? Do you gain experience and retain the ability to pick up items? Can you use class skills of that character, or skills that require ammunition or expendables? It might just be an item allowing you to pretend to be a badass SSS rank adventurer while in town, or to take the appearance of a class you like while adventuring for a while.
Lastly, the digging tools: Here, it really depends on what the item costs, how often or for how long you can use it, what you can find, and how hard whatever you can find (or its closest item/ingame currency equivalent) is otherwise to obtain.
Could be OP, could be pay2win, could be a fart in the wind.
Really people, agonizing over it at this stage is pointless - let’s at least wait for them to mess up properly before we sharpen the executioners axe, Mkay?
Why do threads like this keep coming up? The constant whining about Pay2Win? If the game is P2P, someone whine as well. If the game is B2P, someone will whine as well.
Here’s the truth for you. ALL mmo games are Pay2Win. The rich will always have ways to P2W and get ‘stronger’ without as much effort as a F2P. How?
-
Ingame currency sellers. Even in well established games like FFXIV which is P2P without cashshop, you get GOLD sellers, POWER-LEVELING sellers, END-GAME content carrying. Heck, these 3 services are available in almost all mmo. Let me assure you, ToS will have even more of these with its popularity and hidden classes and grind. If I’m a China gold seller, I’m opening shop here for sure.
-
Other than non-stat costumes, everything else in the cashshop is Pay2Win. Because enhance safety scrolls are in almost every mmo. If I spend USD100 on scrolls, get my max level weapon to max enhancement, I’m so going to beat you in PVP, out DPS the PVE boss faster than you, grind at a higher tier place earlier than you.
-
So… How do the F2P stop them? Your whining isn’t going to help. Because the developers rather players with the CASH to spend it on the game and not gold sellers, so the cash shop has to be decent. And decent isn’t just costumes. They have to sell abit of advantage, else they buy this ‘advantage’ they want from gold sellers. So you rather developer get richer and want to make the game better? Or gold sellers get richer and grind all our farm areas longer?

Money is power, those without enough of it, make up the difference with SHEER EFFORT. It doesn’t take an adult or genius to understand this is the way of life, in reality, in games, anywhere in general. So, dear 13 year old kids and those non the wiser, stop kicking a fuss and live with it.
Instead of whining about cash shop which isn’t going to be affect much by your whines and hundreds other thread you open to moan about them when the game isn’t even complete. How about doing more research? Preparing your profession path? Crafting career? Predicting the economy and making yourself rich before anyone else do? These are the ‘hardwork’ you can afford without cash. Not sit there, kick a fuss like a 5 year old denied his toy.
You might wanna get off your high horse, pal.
First and foremost, this is a game. A MMORPG, too, meaning many people participate and compete in one way or another. .
And games (fundamentally) are fun because they’re exempt from “real way of life”.
Let’s try a simple thing like chess. Or better - a table-top game like Warhammer. At the start of the game players have comparable resources - you know what your pieces can do and to a degree, can guess how it’s going to go.
And now imagine that your opponent can revive a unit you just took out by paying $50 a piece. Going by your logic, money is power and it’s ok, but somehow I don’t think it will be a game you’d like to play… It’s fine to read some guides and polish your skills. It’s fine to drink some coffee/smoke a cigarette before a game (note: smoking’s bad for you!) or perhaps, even paint your pieces in a unique way. It’s NOT fine by any means to buy your win. Games are fun as long as they’re fair.
Yes, developers need to monetize somehow. But it’s their task to find out how to do it without turning a game into a boring and obvious cash grab. Not an easy task, true, but hey, it’s that or a minuscule playerbase and a “Just another Korean mass-produced MMO-wannabe cashgrab” label.
P.S.: About selling content carrying… Having played WoW, FFXIV and whatnot, I’m all too familiar with the “please sell a %bossname kill!” crowd. It’s hard to find a more pathetic sight than a user who’s clad in high-level gear… And is about as capable at playing his class as a drunken cow is able to handle chopsticks. If you are willing to pay to become a laughing stock of community you are to be pitied, not envied.
I hope this thing doesnt work in pvp
btw if a player dies, how much exp is lost?
I like this statement. Honestly, people just need to get a job and pay for stuff xD. I believe the developers/publishers need some means to get some cash in for future development of the game including updates, fixes, security, server upkeep, etc.
ITT: Spoiled underage players claiming their pocket money was “earned through work”.
If you had actually ever worked in your life, you would know better how to value money. If a rich person can value money, why can’t spoiled brats like your kind?
I like paying for a good game.
Focus being on “good game”. Not willingly paying for excrements.
The moment a game has it’s entire content monetized through micro-transactions, it has failed to become a good game.
The topic is about P2W, if you even know what that is. Not about whether a game should be payed for or not. That’s not even up for discussion.
I think F2P is basically a broken model, it hardly works at all because the developers normally start to remove content from the game to sell it later.
But I also doesn’t think the game could survive with a P2P model, unless ToS is very cheap to develop and mantain, which I doubt. Like many others, I guess the best way is to go B2P, but this is a korean game, so we all knew it would be F2P from the begnning.
With a bit of luck the game won’t have a big xp curve, neither pay to win cash shop. These are my main concerns.
But the game looks awesome, I will play it regardles of these things.
i dont care because surely my computer cant handle it
This is undoubtly pay to win.
Well pretty much every f2p game has this. Not really pay2win.
Just don’t die lol
