Non-combat character

Is it possible to build a NON-COMBAT character and still be useful to other players and parties?
I have played combat characters far too much for years in other MMOs and I feel the urge to play something different, an entirely support character that can aid, craft, carry stuff, or something else.
With the huge diversity of skill builds in ToS, I’m wondering if someone can follow this path and still level up.

I haven’t looked at the skills available yet as a whole, so forgive me if this question is obvious. Also forgive my bad english.

Yes (probably)

Try out that skill simulator for some examples.
You’ll still have combat skills on-hand but it seems (need confirmation!) to be fairly possible to be effective purely by being support. (that being said, you can be offensive with support skills)

Through the logic of buffing the DPS, sustaining and healing teammates…
Still, you probably will use some of your skills offensively.

i.e. Using heal to do damage.

Short answer: Yes.

Long Answer: It’s difficult to create an entirely non-combat character. Given how the class advancement system works in this game, you will always have a set of skills you can use to fight, support, etc. In fact, most of the non-combat classes are at Rank 5 or 6, with the exception of the Archer tree, which currently has no non-combat classes so far.

Pure non-combat classes are rare these days with MMOs tending to be more action-oriented before anything else.
Maybe FFXIV comes to mind but that game was so centered around grinding daily quests and weekly dungeon resets that crafting (despite being really, really good system-wise) was pretty much useless.
So far we haven’t seen any pure crafters in ToS, which (personally) I think is a shame.

try going the support alchemist route, or healer(with pardoner at rank 5 to make scrolls)~ might be something with all that support both in and out of battle~

The only way you could avoid direct combat completely is by going down the Cleric route.

You can try to specialize in healing, buffs and support abilities there without having to get involved in the actual combat too much.

The other option would be to aim for an Alchemist. You can’t avoid combat there in order to lvlup but you can focus a bit more on crafting and economics.

I don’t think support like healing or buffing can be considered a non-combat character.
You would still be active in the battlefield, just with another role.

A non-combat character to me is something related to either politics or economics.

I think it’s very VERY possible to focus on these in this game but only AFTER already leveling your character to the last rank. So in a sense it’s not 100% non-combat (at first)

Not really, Scout can be built as a stealth support only.

Yes you can easily to create non combat character…Even if u get some combat skill you can improve your healing skill instead…

Cleric, Priest, Dievdirbys, Druid combination…If u create character with these classes you only get 1-3 combat skill and you can skip these. I dont know how non combat character works in Tos.

You mean like a merchant class? Or more of a support healer class which is still considered a combat class.

More like a merchant

Honestly I would also prefer to have a class that handles all of my economical needs as well as vends my items. Hope they have something similar.

i read somewhere that they gonna make Cook/chef class… maybe one of the 30 hidden class hmm…
and ye i want a class that expert at handling with economic stuff… arithmetician class kind of something lol or the old basic merchant class with mobile vending machine/carriage

Doesnt the Squire class already cover that role

It is possible to build a character that focus mainly on supporting, but that does not mean that you won’t have any single combat skill on your character.
So far, there is not a single class out there that does not support combat. Each class has at least 1 combat ability, even squire has this Arrest skill which is useful for PvE.

i hope they not forget about it

Q) You told me that there is Shepherd class in the game. Are
there any other classes such as Cook or Fisherman who are not really
involved in battles? I really want to play Cook class.

A) There are classes which are specialized in the skills that
are useful in battles and there are other classes that have skills which
are not really relevant in battles. At the moment, Cook or Fisherman
classes are not in the game, but since we will have Cooking feature in
the game, we may have Fisherman class or Cook class in the future.

because they gonna add cooking feature to the game sooner or later with their own update… i hope :yum:

Problem with current crafter characters is that you can’t really start as one. Squire is a rank 5 Swordsman derivative, so you’ll be hacking and slashing for 5 ranks at the very least before you get to that.
Which is a shame - personally I like when there are completely non-combat classes, for example miners that gain exp as they find and mine/smelt rare ore types or blacksmiths that level up by crafting stuff, NOT whacking monsters with a hammer.

yeah if only the dev not hack and slash minded lol…
it would be great if we got a starter class to be non-combat oriented

We don’t know. Maybe a hidden class could fix that.

I guess there is a logic behind not having a non-combat character as a starter class (I’m talking about cookers, fishermen, crafters, merchants, miners, not healers and buffers that have a role in actual combat). Since the game is F2P, everyone would multi-box their own non-combat accounts to aid their main account, rendering the interactivity between players with such classes obsolete. Everyone would have their own mules.
Having a non-combat character in such a game marketing tactic, is more wise IMO to have to struggle leveling him up as a main, and reach the desired result even after rank 5.
