No testing is getting done

I love MMOs, and I love grinding for EXP. The rates on iCBT2 aren’t bad, higher rates or not. I’ve taken much worse for much less.

The problem is that this is a very limited time Close Beta test. We’re supposed to go through the content with multiple characters, looking for bugs, glitches, and missing content. This is not getting done because half of the playerbase is rerolling characters as soon as they hit 130~160, or spending more than 50% of their playtime grinding in Demon Prison.

I wanted to try multiple characters: Sapper, Fencer, Doppelsoldner, maybe even Dievdirby, but I can’t. I won’t. Because it’s going to take all the remaining time left we have until iCBT2 ends just to get Rank 6 on my first character.

I am not making an argument saying that grinding is bad, or excessive, at this point. The only thing I want to point out is that the current state of things is detrimental to the purpose of this Beta Test. Players are not cycling through the content of the game because we’re too busy getting stuck at the EXP grinding walls.

The EXP rate could be maybe 50% better or so, and it would help immensely. People NEED to grind, but not for 5 or 6 days straight, in case they misused their EXP card. We also absolutely need some sort of EXP event in order to save those characters stuck on the grind walls. 10 or 15 EXP cards per day would make those gaps so much more bearable, while still keeping the players on maps long enough that bugs won’t go unnoticed.

Come comercial release we won’t complain about the grind anymore, it’s just that right now isn’t the correct time to force players into this much investment into characters that won’t even be there anymore in 2 weeks.

Why do I feel like people will always complain about EXP rates when a ceiling is hit?

In ICBT1 that ceiling was around level 37. Until that point, everyone was happy and then the forums were swamped with grinding complaints. And they said the same thing you said.

Now, even with KCBT3 rates, that number just changed to around 130, as you said.

There was a thread before that suggested IMC giving everyone billions of silver so they “can test everything in the game”. I’ll reiterate what I said there.

Don't fret about not being able to test 100% of what's available.

Because let’s face it, rates any higher than now don’t represent what IMC would really set the servers on during release, and it is also worth something to let IMC know what ISN’T easy to reach by players as of the current state of the game.

Besides, if IMC inflated exp and silver for everyone, the game risks its novelty. I bet that most people will just 100% the game, not bother to write a review/report, and just leave the game in the dust: “Been there, done it all. And it’s linear, so not worth replaying.”

The purpose of the beta test isn’t to give us a flavor of the game, but to get rid of bugs before commercial release.

It is far more detrimental to the game if the release has bugs thay could, and SHOULD, have been detected on Beta testing, but weren’t.

Besides, arguing that people will get tired of the game now isn’t a valid argument, since we’re only checking about 1/3 of the content(200 levels out of intended 600), and less than half of the commercial release, vanilla classes.

“Don’t fret about not being able to test 100% of what’s available.”

Missing the point of the beta entirely. Please do not forget that you’ve been given keys in order to check content, not to have fun.

I wouldn’t count on anything… their decisions seem so wacky .

As someone who’s worked on the programming side of an online game before, I can tell you that it’s absolutely normal. Sometimes stuff breaks on maintenance and you’re not sure why(repair prices), sometimes stuff that’s always worked normally suddenly does not(market, shout), and sometimes you’re not not sure why stuff works when it shouldn’t.

This beta test is fine overall, it’s just that, like I said, the exp and grinding issue is currently detrimental to the test’s purpose.

I just had to pop in and say that the rates aren’t even close to what KCBT3 has. I’ve spent some time in there and I did a testrun where I didn’t use any cards until 110 ish and I didn’t have to grind at all. I just went through the fields clearing quests and getting enough levels without using cards.

They have higher rates and they have some sort of xp event on most of the time. You only have problems around 177 if you skipped content. To give you more of an idea how it is in KCBT3 after Crystal Mines I usually end up so high level that I skip the next two zones and go straight to Nefritas Cliff to continue questing.

That’s the point, dude.

After this many days with so many features broken and many bugs from 1cbt still in the game I think they are going for marketing and not a proper testing. They want twitch streams and facebook shares… I hope I’m wrong.

You and imc clearly disagree about what the purpose of the test is. Too bad, no cheat codes for you.

I was actually going to make a thread on this. As it stands, the only character I’ve created beyond level 30 is a barbarian. I went with a barb because I knew I’d be able to fly through content and get a decent list of bugs compiled. The exp wall at 130 stopped me. I’m not going to test a game for bugs where I have to grind 1 hour+ for a single level to progress forward on a character that will be deleted in less than 2 weeks. That’s not happening.

If IMC wants us to continue testing, then I really suggest they increase the rates to at least 10x for the final week of the beta.

I have a laundry list of bugs I’ve discovered this beta (some of which have been reported already) that I will submit once the beta is over. I’d like to be able to add more to it if I’m given the chance to progress further and remake characters to continue testing and breaking things.

IMC, increase the exp rates for the final week.

Real game testing is only happening on kCBT, international beta is just for publicity and stress testing. I don’t even have to say that it backfired.

It’s going to be a wipe. We still have to grind for a test? Kinda odd really. It’s a test. WHo wanna spend their time grinding for Not? It’s going to be wiped…

And by backfired you mean was a catastrophe. Several friends I know have already moved on and have repeatedly said they will not be playing at launch because of how IMC is handling some of the big issues that are plaguing the servers making it difficult to play and test appropriately.
