New player tips and suggestions

Okay, so I am yet to actually login and play but I was looking for MMOs with a heavy focus on support classes and ToS was mentioned so I thought I would give it ago.
So my broad question is what would people suggest for a new player to do and try to really get a feel for the game?

The first question Should be if you have friends to play and party with already or is it more of an after you join the game thing?_?

I would say Cleric is a nice class for support starters

Well I do have friends waiting on feedback from me to decide if they wanna try it or not.

I was thinking starting wizard, causing I am loving the look of linker, chrono and enhancer cause they look exactly like what I was looking for

Suggestion is, try it out and see for yourself, and the same suggestion is for your friends, you might like the game but they might not like it and vice versa.

People have to stop with this thing of, is it worth? Try it out, it’s free, if you like it good, if not move on.

As for classes, if you want a class that is not pot dependent, Cleric tree is the way to go, then again, you will earn some money along the way by doing quests, so it’s not like you can’t buy pots from Market (AKA Auction House).

Take note that, on support builds, your progressing is slower than on an offensive build, since you don’t have many skills to clear masses of mob, and depending on some quests, you will need help to complete them.

You can build your char here before making it and going on the feeling and ask for suggestions later on here at the forums.

Not to be rude but I think you should read what I said, not once did I ask if it was worth playing, just for new player tips on what to do and not to do, so I can enjoy it the most whilst trying it for myself.

As for pots, are they relatively expensive and I assume they are craftable aswell?

Pots are only craftable by the Alchemist class, which isn’t good for a whole lot other than said potion crafting, but it has some niche uses.

Besides that, potions are dirt cheap anyways. Personally I haven’t bought potions in ages (privileges of having an Alchemist friend and a private guild farm), but even a new player should have no issues at all in funding potion usage from the get go.

If you want to make a chrono, I suggest you wait until you have a party to level with. Not that it can’t level solo, but its kind of a pain to level supports that way. You’d be better off leveling something with a bit of AoE clear first if you are going solo, that should give you the ability to fund and gear all of your characters.

Okay thanks for that, is there away to respec your character or is it mainly alt based?

Also not trying to be rude, but I think @Nirimetus was just being upfront with you about how the game tends to be received. We’ve both been playing this game for quite some time, and at the start a lot of people expected way too much [since the same creator made RO]; and left in droves. Since then it’s been rocky with population, but people do still come here like clockwork and ask if the game is worth playing, or coming back to after an extended absence.

Even people looking for new player advice tend to not stick around long, for a variety of reasons. So the best tip you can get is to go in with an open mind as stated earlier. ToS has it’s strengths and flaws, especially compared to other MMO’s, but I would stick it out past the first 100 levels because it really picks up after that. A guild will help you out quite a bit in adjusting to the game, and leveling alone isn’t nearly as fun as with other veteran players. That is what I would recommend to best help you adjust alone as a solo player until you get a feel of how to tell others about it.

Only the Alchemist class can craft pots, with is within the Wizard branch. Wanting to main support, you’ll likely be fine with heals and SP pots are pretty cheap on the market.

TLDR: Find a guild to make leveling [especially a support class] easier, research your final build before committing to anything, stay open minded about the work that needs to be done on the game still.

It is primarily alt-based.

You can buy resets for your skills and stats from the cash shop (and they are expensive), but you can only reset your class under special circumstances like events or major balance changes.

On top of that, for each character (or pet, because they take character slots too) you have, your Team Level goes up, based on the levels of all your characters/pets. The higher your team level, the more EXP all of your characters gain. On top of that, every time you 100% clear a map, you get a small amount of bonus EXP for all of your characters (past and present).

In short, don’t be afraid to make a lot of characters. You only get four character slots to start out with, but extra ones come cheap (about 3$?), capping eventually at 30 slots.

Does the game still throw a mountain of SP potions at you or did they stop that now

I think if you want a wizard you will like it, but like @Melon said, go with an open mind and use the link @Nirimetus posted…

You can save and post the build here and we can tell you our ideas about stats and skills…

Like Rex would say “Experience out ranks everything” So, go get some more and have fun

If you do all the early quests, you end up with something insane like 750 basic SP potions… so yeah your wizard pretty much never runs out of SP until the endgame where you need bigger pots.

Hey if you like chronomancer, that is great!

My suggestion for new players is, complete as many map 100% as you can. The reason is that you will get 2 EXP cards when you complete 1 map, and you only need to do it on 1 character for your whole team to receive these EXP cards (for example, your chronomancer completed 100 maps and received 200 EXP cards, then all of your later alts will receive those 200 cards without having to complete the map themselves).

The reason why chronomancer will be great in this situation is because of a skill called Haste, which increases your movement speed so you can complete the maps faster. You said you like enchanter, but I think sage is better if you use it to help your successive alts. Sage has skills called Portal and Portal Shop. Basically you can save warp points and set up a shop for your alts to warp to the saved location, which saves a bunch of time.

tl;dr If you plan to play alts, make your first character chronomancer-sage to aid your later alts, and complete as many maps 100% as possible.

A good tip: Meta is trap.

Why is that? 20charchar

  • Explore all maps, primarily for the achievements and exp cards, secondarily for its beauty and scenery (or the other way around). Note that some maps require tricks to complete.

  • Do quests especially the main ones and the ones that give bonuses on stats. Well, just skip this if questing/reading/story/lore is not enjoyable for you.

  • Do research and read future updates. This will prevent screw-ups and helps in character-building/planning.

  • Have patience

  • Enjoy

Save headaches for later. Depending on the type of player you are, I guess depends on how you’ll enjoy the game. For me, it’s personally all about Alts and building new characters. I mainly get my 15 Chars to 350 and then go away til the next update. (350 because IMC and the 340 HG issue) I’m not really into spending millions of silver or grinding my fingers to the bone to get upgrades I don’t use because I don’t do any of that content. To lazy, and that means I’d have to involve people, which is far to much work.

I could offer you a ton of tips as I’ve been here for ages but really most have it covered. So I leave you with the Addon manager. Better Quest and the like are a must. Enjoy yourself! ToS is a good game, it’s just a niche one.

Try not to turn in all your quests right away when they’re done. Sometimes you can use them to warp back and forth in the map. It’s also a good idea to do so when you urgently have to go to town. That way you can warp back via quest instead of wasting silver on the statues, and you don’t have to walk from the warp statue every time.

Pardoner buffs are your best friend. With them, you’ll practically never have to buy equipment until 200+ or so. I recommend buying Sacrament only at first. You can also buy Blessing but it lasts a bit less, but a good trick with Blessing is that the damage you do from leveling up is affected by it, so you can wait until there’s a large mob on your screen, level up, and they’ll all die and you get a large amount of exp. Buff shops typically sell them for 500-800. This is way worth it, as it lasts 1+ hour and everything up to level ~80 will be 1 shotted. After that, you can buy blessing, and you’ll 1-shot everything from level 80-130ish. This is a very good investment, as 500 silver is nothing, and you will be able to farm and progress extremely quickly with it. Again, do not buy gear until 200+; just use whatever you can find and buy buffs.

There are a few annoying repeatable quests that make you collect things from certain spots. One that I really hated was the one at Crystal Mine 3F that makes you gather some light energy or whatever. A good idea I found to make this easier is by canceling the gathering when there’s 1 second left on the spot, then just gather again. It’s MUCH easier to do these quests like this as you can farm a single spot much longer instead of constantly moving around.

Someone already said this, but get 100% on all maps and you can get exp cards as rewards from Wings of Vaivora.

whatever class u choose, u will always need silvers in the future, so my logic is, its better to start with farmer build class

Well, for tips, I think we’d need to know more about how you want to play. Basically to know if you want to rush to high levels, or explore the game more ?
Because if you (and your friends) want to level as fast as possible several characters, the best way would be to wait for a new player event and then use all the exp items and do dungeons and such.

If not, you can just enjoy about everything, advance slowly and do the quests, dungeons, try out various things.
• You should do the Revelation quests (main ones, they have a golden flag in your quest log) for the extra stats points and for the main story.
• You have warping statues in some maps, get close to them to activate them so you can warp all over the world.
• You also have special statues that give an extra stat point.
• You and your friends should think carefully about your builds, because TOS is pretty unforgiving on that since you only get a few rank resets in rare and special events (skill and stat reset potions are more common, so it’s a bit more acceptable to “mess” them). Some classes have synergies, some others don’t. I guess it’s especially true for Cleric classes since they’re the most versatile ones. Some classes also will use a specific weapon, so you have to pay attention to that.
• Do not work on your gear/weapons at early game. You will level pretty fast no matter what, and you will get better ones quite fast. They’re only worth focusing at higher levels. Usually you’d want a “good enough” weapon once you’re 220+, but ultimately you want to save for your 350 weapon.
• Once you’re 240, you can do “Saalus”, which gives you Blessed Shards. You want to start doing that asap and do it on all your characters, since they will help you enhance your weapons (and it’s extra money).
• For the first week (if I remember) of a new account, you won’t be able to use the market. It’s a terrible and useless restriction, but it’s here anyway, so just remember that you won’t be able to use it to get money or buy stuff. So for the first week just discover the world and get money, once you have enough I’d recommend buying a “Token”, which is TOS’ VIP system, giving you some extra advantages.
• Explore your maps at 100% and try to pick up the Collection chests in each of them. Exploring at 100% will give you bonus EXP cards (that you can get from the Wings of Vaivora in Klaipeda or Orsha), Collection chests are imo fun to do, it’s a change of pace, and they give you something (stats, storage space…). Also the Wings of Vaivora will reward you for clearing as much content as possible in the game. Some are monthly rewards, some aren’t.

Don’t forget that you can always ask people around you about tips too~ A lot of people are actually helpful if you dare to ask, some are idiots or trolls though, be sure to ignore those. The “block” function is your BFF for this kind of people and the goldsellers in town :sparkles:
And you can also of course always ask on this forum and check out the different guides :3 (keep in mind though that some things might be outdated, so it’s safer to double check and ask)
