New player 3 weeks in ToS| My overall experience

Here I’m to share my gaming experience with you.
You might know or not know me for my ToS leveling streams, you can check them out at the link below:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-2q9twDvPP24Q6NEM-IYbw/videos

Currently I have 2 chars lvl 315+ and 2 chars lvl 230+
So far I’ve tested all 4 classes (swordsman, wizard, archer, priest) and wizard was my favorite class.
I’ll start by listing what I enjoyed while playing.

The first impression of this game was great, amazing, it’s stunning. The graphics, visuals, it’s all great, I really love the artwork and animations, this game sure have good looks. Questing and leveling is also fun, though I did questing only until lvl 40. While leveling till 100 it was fun grinding mobs while they were easy, getting loot even though it’s worthless. at level 70+ I couldn’t get any loot, that means I didn’t get armor or weapons equip which is disappointing even if it would be dirt cheap. Overall leveling to 100 is quite easy and enjoyable.

And now the level 100-200 part, still no equip drop or very rarely, the grinding became longer, harder, and it requires even more exp to level. The only fast way to level was doing missions and dungeons. I do enjoy both missions and dungeons, but the thought of not getting equipment is upsetting, though I got few armor pieces from boss cubes. To sum up, lvl 100-200 wasn’t as enjoyable as leveling from 1 to 100, I guess some players might quit the game at this point because the gameplay doesn’t improve at level 100, but rather becomes worse.

Leveling from 200 to 315 was longest and hardest. At first leveling from 200 to 260 is somewhat enjoyable because of dungeons, especially I enjoyed level 230 dungeon, in my opinion it’s very well made and fun. At level 260 I did not like new dungeon, it’s rather hard, long and the exp isn’t that good. I ended up doing quests somewhere at level 270+ to hit 290, actually the lvl 12 exp cards were very useful at this level and helped me hit 290 quickly. Once I reached 290 and got to the Svalpinghas forest I was amazed with great ambient developers have created making this forest. Svalpinghas forest became one of my favorite zones because of beautiful artwork. Now the level 290 dungeon, it was much better than level 260 dungeon, doesn’t take long to complete, good exp, I like it. Doing 290 dungeon and missions I easily reached level 315. However, gameplay felt same as leveling 100-200, long, slow, repetitive, boring grinding gameplay, quests weren’t much fun either.

What I liked about dungeons: they aren’t too hard, can be completed without a healer in party, gives good exp. Some dungeons, I did not like: level 260, 200 and 140 dungeons, they all share one problem in common: takes long to complete. I was mostly negative towards level 200 dungeon, it feels like it’s lacking mobs, the exp there is too low compared to level 170 and 230 dungeons, actually it was better doing lvl 170 dungeon while I was at level 200 rather than doing lvl 200 dungeon. I think these dungeons needs improvement, mostly level 200.

The classes.
Cleric: I did not enjoy cleric at all, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad class, I just don’t like support classes.
Archer: Lacks AoEs, feels strong vs bosses, but still weaker than psychokino when fighting boss. Not enjoyable when solo grinding due to AoE lack. Running and aiming was also somewhat difficult.
Wizard: Has great damage and AoE amount, really fun to play and I’d recommend it to every new player. The only weak side was health, but it’s not a tank class, so it’s ok.
Swordsman: Has great balance between damage, health and AoEing, can also sprint. I would recommend this too for every new player, it’s a great class, enjoyed playing it.

Now what I mostly disliked about this game:
The mobs at level 250+ are way too hard, mostly at level 300+. Mobs hit too hard, but that’s just one problem. The worst was that it takes so long to kill a mob, I would need a party to go into high level zones. Solo play at high level is problematic, hard to kill, hard to survive, low exp, no drop, unrewarding grindy gameplay, and totally not enjoyable. I ended up making new chars as soon as I hit lvl 315 because it wouldn’t be fun anymore to play in high level zones.
Next thing is end game. It’s also grindy in a boring way. People farm Saalus to get blessed shards, then get those gems, transcend items, and so on. Besides that there is ET (Earth Tower) another grind zone for high end gear. I don’t know what’s they point of grinding for best gear if the high level gameplay isn’t enjoyable.

Final thoughts:
I think the game could be improved if mobs were more balanced and gameplay improved. Right now as soon as you run out of your dungeon and mission entries, all you can do is grind, and grinding at high level is a pain if you’re solo. For new players the game world is very confusing, it’s large, many zones, high level players goes farming to certain places which new player doesn’t know, nor how to get to them without a guide. Besides that questing in high level zones is a pain, and sometimes just impossible if solo. There are insane number of OP mobs spawn, which after you’ll kill more will spawn and you’ll have difficulty completing your quests. Finding a party for quests is also impossible if you don’t have a friend who could help you. Overall end game is very disappointing for me.

This is just my opinion, don’t hate me too much for negativity

hi welcome to tos, if u had played before the may combat change patch, most mobs would have 4 times the hp and u would be doing much less damage from 200 and above.

as for gear, u could always grinded in HG for gear while leveling spend afew hours at 100 HG and then 150, and so on to get afew pieces of gear that are really good, they are far superior to dungeon drops.

i do believe that are all dungeons are good tho, i like them all but yeah 200 one is the worst of out of them

but over all there is enough quests to get you to max level without ever grinding just so you know, altho that includes doing your daily runs as well

by priest do u mean priest or cleric?

Thanks, corrected priest to cleric.

Hmm

On the flipside, I think Veterans find the higher, harder zones to be a breath of fresh air. The maps actually challenged people, and they actually do get people to party up to play them. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. The entire game is a cake-walk of rolling through mobs and bosses like they’re absolutely nothing. They’re not threatening. They pose zero challenge. There is no chance of death or failure at all.

The maps that actually pose a threat are the most interesting in the game.

With that said. I’m not sure specifically which maps you’re referring to. At 310, with appropriate gear, there really shouldn’t be anything that is a serious threat to solo play anymore. Are you undergeared? Using 170-220 armor at level 315? No gems in anything?

R8 is an equipment gateway, it is where players are encouraged to actually start sorting out their gear properly. The game has a significant issue with allowing players to coast from level 40-260 without focusing on any defensive gear whatsoever. That’s what led to the Cafrisun meta.

How would you propose changing this without removing actual challenges and threats from the game? The game is most fun at its most threatening imo. I personally feel like Inner Wall is a great set of maps now, with the changes.

agreed. Before the patch, i remember that there used to be party groups that went through places like tevrin and suecourt because you actually needed sages and clerics to support dps classes in questing in those areas.
This was the most fun Ive had in TOS, questing with randoms. But it also posed problems because without parties, if you werent a cleric, you couldnt do the maps as the mobs would 3-4 shot you. I hope to see some extra mission/quest oriented content that encourages party play in guilds but such must not be mandatory and only serve as an extra thing that players can do.

In my opinion, this issue was resolved in a way with the introduction of Hunting Grounds until it was butchered into oblivion when the drop rate become outright ridiculous.

That’s just how new players see the high contents. The 1st week or month of R8 mobs are the hardest one to handle as even hardcore and exploiting players find them hard to defeat, not to mention farm them for materials.

tbh these maps are alot easier than it was before.,
if you started playing post r8 patch you would understand what we’re talking about, imagine physical mobs (archers) dealing tons of damage and lets not forget about the mages which also deals tons of damage plus freezing skills lol.

IMO you lack gears and attributes for these maps here are my suggestions:
get 170 hg armors upgrade them to +6.
get a weapon according to your level.
a good bracelet should be 2pcs of zechariels. (assuming that you finished the quests on different toons) which would give you a total of +6 to all stats.
and finally invest on your attributes pump all the skills you frequently use to lvl 50.

with these plus proper skill rotation, you would most likely have a much easier time questing.

goodluck.!

Get ready for a lot of be grunted veteran players mocking you for difficulty, because to them those zones are a cake walk with the funds they have available. Not to mention most 280+ zones were 10 times harder than they are now.

They expect every new player to magically have all the right knowledge of maps and builds as soon as they hit Enter and if a new player fails to conquer a zone it’s the players fault.

9 out of 10 times, it is. There are classes that far exceed others in tasks. Some can do all things in the game (clerics) while some can do it with whale gear (swords, archer), while some perform really well with adequate gear (wizards).

But you’re right about content. IMC seems to add content now and then, but nothing too useful for us to do at the end game. For example Sissel bracelet has been in the game since the beginning and is still the only bracelet in the game that adds critical rate (soon to be changed, after almost 2 years of Sissels). Point being is that if you have Sissels, there’s nothing else to get and the whole Hethran thing is wasted on you.

Saalus is an insane bore to everyone, but they can’t remove it but also IMC seems to lack the ability to innovate. Soon they are reworking world bosses to be another time waste so you can make end game accessories. ET is still a boring ET, with unimaginitive floors.

Recently they added HG, which was a nice idea, then they ruined it by making it too hard for solo (unless you’re a cleric or a whale) and too long for solo player (20,000 DPK for a single cube) to get anything out of it.

Recently they added Hethran badges, which gives probably the least efficient accessories in the game if you take the time consumption it takes to make them. I’ve seen no one even bother with them at all because they are just that bad. It’s far easier to buy a petamion and work forwards Archmage / Sissels than to waste time with that.

IMC has this weird thing about them that if they add new content, they have to make it take the player 300 hours of grind to get 1 item. Every time.

They ignore Magnum Opus and classes all the time and keep adding more dresses, hats and practonium sinks and pay to win boxes.

There are some HG still out there with stupid loot. Like the HG that has Galoks in it, all the mobs are level 190 to 200, but drop 50 silver each (same as the level 50 mobs) and the cube drop rate is so terrible and the mobs hit so hard no one goes there without a party at that level.

A lot of items in the game are in limbo, with nothing to do with them. There’s a magnum opus in the game that could transmute useless items into something useful, but IMC refuses to do this. They rather make you do that 300 hour grind than to give you a way around it. Even good Magnum Opus recipies are a grind in themselves, because of mob density being so bad.

For example for an Archmage Bangle you need 300+ blue tini drops because you have to transmute them twice, because the intermediate drop is so rare no one hunts for it. There are too few mobs in HG and the worst thing of all is the agro limit of 7 mobs in dungeons and 4 outside. I wish they would remove agro limit entirely.

I also wish we had more maps like Demon Prison 2 with insane mob density.

As for classes, 4 builds isn’t enough I’m afraid. You’d have to play a lot more different builds to get a good feeling. Every class has at least 3 good damage builds, 3 good supports builds and 20 absolutely garbage builds.

I think the 300+ maps are too easy now, i can actually kill 320-330 monsters in some seconds with blue 270 gear, if you have potions you never have to sit.
When you have good gear there’s nothing to do, the monsters are too weak for a party outside of ET or 330 HG.
We need alternative maps that are meant for parties or well geared players that offer convenience like easier drop:time if you are able to clear them.
Also it would be cool if we had better item sinks, stuff like EDP bottles and usable items used to be both sinks and occasions for not-so-rich players to make money and move the economy on RO, same goes for foods and gathering on other MMO’s.

Seriously? The game was dumbed down massively and it’s still way too hard?

Good point. Spawn rates are pretty poor for a “grinding game”.

Welcome to Tree of savior

I think the spawn rates are okay in dungeon zones, but there are no options at high levels. Also most high leveled monsters give too low silver compared to their health and spawn rate, same for exp.
There are some zones where i can get 40-50m exp and others that are like 30 levels higher and won’t go over 10m/h.

Agree with all your points. Field maps have quite poor spawns. I get only around 300k silver per hour in the highest HG. Enough to appraise a couple of items, if i get cubes at all -_-

Welcome to ToS, Unlocked.

Imo, the higher levels you go, gear becomes more important in damage and damage mitigation rather than stats. The R8 315+ maps now are geared towards players who spend a bit of time to gather enough gear to tackle them. By saying gear I meant at the minimum of blue 270s to be able to solo quest there without feeling the game is too hard. This is also the time where attribute investments start to become apparent too.

Second this, I very much preferred the first version of HG when it was first introduced. That HG cube idea, while help to relieve problems such as specific monster farming, create more problems when the DPK for it become high. This game can be so much better if they can resolve the farming for loot problems.

even if hgs were 3X harder than they are it would be acceptable to me because it’s not a bad thing to have to be in a party for some content. I played in the first hg with a few swordsmen chars. my highlander killed things faster but my pelt tended to be able to handle damage and more mobs better. I think it is a necessity that some content requires you to group up with another or more than 1 other since this is an mmo.

got my first toon to 300, make my second one, all my map complettions carry over, suddenly level 50, use a few boosters , 100, again, 150…

easy game easy life

Guys you forget 1 very important point of high level gameplay…
High level maps are deserted. That means 0 players besides you in the same map. It’s way too hard for solo play, and this challenging gameplay isn’t rewarding.

In my opinion, they could have part of high level maps be easier and the rest be challenging for those who enjoy it.

Now I’m not against challenging gameplay, but it’s just not rewarding, no loot or anything if you’re not going to HG, also the maps are empty and you wouldn’t find a single player even if you farmed for 2 hours in the same map. There are literally abandoned maps that no one visits, I do not understand what’s they point of having these zones if no one plays them.

For me Tenet Garden “Difficulty” was most fun.

EDIT: guys you’re talking off-topic, the thread is about gameplay experience, not gear grinding ffs.
