My two cents regarding Quests

1st:
What if we totally remove the main story line. If there were only “hidden” quests it would be more about free roam and not about going where the game wants you to go. I just find it more pleasing when the game does not force you to do something directly.

Some of you can say: “You don’t need to do main quests”. Yes, but if you want to level efficiently you have to do quests - no exceptions. So, the idea is removing the main quest storyline and make more hidden quests and better rewards. Overall, it’s more about the feelings… right now it feels like the game is forcing you to do the quests.

2nd:
I want to fight bosses again even when I finish quests. The cannon fodder field bosses are really bad designed with easy fight and no useful rewards. Even if there was a timer on bosses or anything. I don’t mean that grind should focus on boss fights but… when you start crafting you realize that you need some materials from boss drops and you can’t fight it again because the quest is over.

I know there is a mechanic that when you are in a party there is a probability that a few bosses can spawn but it’s limiting and not exactly what I’m talking about.

Man those are exacly my thoughts on this game, the only thing that bothers me is the main quest, every one is doing it because its the best way to lvl( like u said) and i have the same feeling about quest bosses, i want to fight they again, drop their itens, my idea is to low the drop hate from bosses

If you remove the main story line quest you lose the storyline and a guide for leveling. With no main quest people will run around like a headless chicken and always be underlevel.

…and I would totally love that.

However, if you press “N” in the game it opens world map with zones and recommended levels.

When they remove the quest… People are crying about lack of quest… When they add more quest… people are crying about too much quest… Its very hard to please every gamer…

This discussion is about main quest holding your hand and leading you through the whole game while in the same time limiting your own imagination on where to go and what to try. It’s not about number of quests.

I understand your feeling but how u can get so many exp by finishing Main quest? How long the main quest last in one field? I see people grinding in field instead of finishing main quest because exp is hard to get…

I would love it too, i really want to explore the game but i dont want to leave the tons of exp, itens and bosses from quests behind

@harimaku: You don’t understand. I’m talking about the meta of the main quest. It’s telling you when and where to go.

Side/hidden quests are totally perfect.

If there were only side or hidden quests it would make more people free roam, explore zones more in-depth and they wouldn’t have these “I must rush this” feelings. It would also give you more sense of accomplishment.

@Baro88 Exactly! People are actually being punished for not following the predestinated road.

You said that u need level efficiently you have to do quest… Are u talking about main quest or hidden quest? You said that Hidden quest are ok… If u dont get much exp from main quest… Then u can skip the main quest? Problem solved ? Are main quest mandatory?

I don’t think so, RO wasn’t about questing and was very funny game. So… questing until lv 25 is funny, grinding later that is boring because the lack of maps, mobs, freedom, dynamic battles, etc… And… the party system is not working well at all. I mean this game have potential but… lacks something…

Ro turned Theme park when Internet made leveling guide… People were always leveling in same areas because of best exp…

Not being able to fight bosses again has been kind of annoying for me, most of them give pretty good exp and it would help make the game feel less grindy to be able to fight them over and over (without needing to be in a party with someone who has the quest for the boss).

We can fix that on this game, maybe mixing mobs on the same area (wich one class is better than another against them) could help to encourage parties for not only grind. But i don’t know is just an idea.

There are 3 places for every level range and maybe some area might be good for certain classes… but this update is not in Internation CBT… which is bummer…

Times have change man. Have you seen the player base these days? majority of them wants their hand held and spoon fed. If people were to play RO nowadays all you would hear is how difficult it is and how the developer have fail the community.

Main quest is very important if u want hunt Hidden classes… players will unlock hidden class when they have achieved enough Adventure Achievement points in the Adventure Journal… So I dont want this feature is going to be completely removed… If main quest is not mandatory… then I dont see it as problem but if u cannot progress in the game because of main quest… Then there is a problem that I dont like personally…

I know it! but i think they only complain because they aren’t having fun at all.

I have a better idea.
Make Main Quests give inneficient experience, plus one of the quest steps introduces you to the hidden quests, which would lead the player to look for them.
