Maybe the answer here is to make grinding more effective. Right now the main quest gives way more xp so it feels like it’s required. Then depending on your play style you can choose to grind or choose to follow the quest path. I personally prefer quests to grinding because it gives a sense of progression and story.
I play RPGs because i like a good story. Main quest and side quests give a lot of background and makes the world and the NPCs alive. Its necessary for a RPG game more than other genres.
@LadyRava: We just need more things to do besides of camping blue respawn. More side quests, repeatable boss fights, really hidden quests, repeatable quests, daily quests and other stuff. As you see, I’m not against questing… in fact I love it. I’m only against the main quest leading you through the game.
@DarioSkydragon: I love RPG stories, that’s why I play mostly RPGs. But playing MMORPG for a story is like watching adult educational movies for a story, if you know what I mean.
Well, i play FFXIV and they do great as MMORPG.
But, im with you when you say: we need daily stuff. For example: 1 set of monsters to kill and when you complete, you receive great exp. You can do this every day to level in a steady peace as casual player. We need sidequests repeatable weekly or daily, etc etc…
I’m not against any of these things, but I find daily quests to be almost as boring as grinding since they are usually things like kill x of some monster and have no sense of purpose besides xp. I like the main quest leading you through the early game, because it introduces you to new areas and gives you a story to provide goals. Later on in the game there should be other things to do like raiding and pvp to keep interest. I definitely don’t think the main quest should be required for players who don’t enjoy it. I just think with good balance it should be possible to promote both play styles. I’m also not sure the maps are designed well enough to completely remove linear progression. We need more wide open spaces.
I would agree that starting everyone up with the main quest line right from the start of the game greatly limits the diversity of the game. It causes every new character you make to have to go through the same content as your older characters.
I would suggest that the main quest line be hidden/ have requirements to be initiated, and starting players up with quests that indirectly leads to the main quests. That way, we remove the constraints of people funneling through Klaipeda to see the main quest NPC, and we open up avenues for people to first get immersed in the mysterious setting: a desperate kingdom abandoned by the Goddesses with monsters roaming around.
The next thing that should be considered is allowing players to start their adventures in different locations other than West Siluliai. If IMC wants to uphold their promise of 3 different areas for each level group, there should be (being lenient) at least 2 different locations to start with.
I’d say they should give the main story as a text or main plot but give various quests that may relate to that story (NPCs giving names and clues). Don’t give a long winded story quest, let the player explore the world and find out about the story themselves.
If they really want to give a world story that can change the game world, then make it a dynamic story quest for the whole server.
e.g. Announcement: “Suddenly evil invades the mining town” Players will go to the town and help defend it. After the event the players who are at the map that contributed will get rewards. Exp, silver, etc.
I played just for 16 hours during this 3 days and I’m already really bored in-game. The only thing that I really liked here was the boss battles, where I spent some 20 minutes trying to kill. It was a nice feeling, hitting him from different angles and moving arround to escape its attacks…
I don’t think I have any other reason to play the game again now, because I HATE grinding/leveling and my quests are to difficult with my current level. It’s sad that I can’t do the boss again and again, just one time and it ended. I expect that IMC changes this for the OPB, because I want, so much, kill bosses, not a flood of 30 mobs that comes to me every ■■■■■■■ time.
And until now (lv18, I can’t level up anymore with just grinding, that’s hell boring), I didn’t find any dungeons. Where are they? Really, dungeons, where? Just for high level places? If so, that’s a big problem. If we have to just grind and grind and grind again in the official release, I’ll die or just don’t play and go back to my boring life.
I saw on a video that have a level 20+ dungeon.
Lol 16 hours and level 18… wtf?
Yes, I like to go around seeing what the game has, searching this or that, not just level up in a flash. Yesterday I found a 112lv map when walking around and it was fun. This is just how I play, and I could say that this is a very good way to participate in the CBT in my own way, since almost all the others seems to be just trying to level up as fast as possible to test builds, good spot to grind and etc (Of course I know that it’s not everyone that is this way, and that you’re testing the combat system and other things, but I know two guys like this, and I doubt that they are the only ones in this CBT only to take this kind of “advantage” in information).
That said, the game really has nothing to do without grinding from the very start. Lv18 and I already need to grind. Luckly I’m lv20 now and found 2 other bosses to kill (Already killed one of them), so I’m happy.
