My thoughts on the current state of Tree of Savior

I hate to say it because I do enjoy this game at its core, but ToS has been released in a broken state.

I will get right into the major failings in which IMC has been conduction operations so far that are very destructive to the game and its community.

First off rather than wait and perform actual stress tests IMC has elected to start the game early in a paid beta/released state without any optimization on either the client or server side. The lack of this is apparent to almost anyone who plays the game and is not able to talk to an NPC or waits 5 seconds or so for a simple operation that would interact with the backend database servers (this is purely speculative as to what the cause of this is, just my impression)

The next huge issue is IMC’s lack of action or even declaring a stance against the flood of rmt action and botting which comes across as a cheap move for profit as rmt spam ultimately benefits them. I have not seen any preventive action to limit even the rate in which rmt spam can be sent out which I have seen drop my fps by about 15 fps which I would say is quite surprising as I have a fairly decent gaming setup.

I was going to touch on the subject of trades being blocked by the paywall, but I think that has had more than enough discussion.

Lastly, IMC has identified and not taken action on game breaking issues and bugs such as permanently killing your companion on the accidental click of a button, as well as in some cases where players can not progress their class to name a few which have been known in under 24 hours and the servers have not been brought down to address anything that has been mentioned and has only reacted by opening regional servers that nobody wants to join and bribing players with free exp items which honestly fail be meaningful as there are plenty who can not play to make even use of these.

IMC, please reevaluate the manner in which you have been conducting operations and please act accordingly or you will likely find yourself without a fan base.

To all of my fellow players do keep in mind that I do not hate the game and, in fact, I enjoy it, despite the current state of things and I hope to see it continue to grow, but I am unsure of if that will happen at this point.

well to be honest I knew what I was getting into.
Of course they could do more but considering the game was barely released I think they did take some steps to improve.
Regarding the lag/freeze I dunno if I get them cause of high ping or sellers spam or bad optimization or all of that but I think moving the servers into their corresponding regions will help.
It’s just there is so much work to do now that I understand they have to prioritize.

I have yet to see a stresstest convert into a smooth launch. MMOs are simply too volatile.

From a business standpoint: Why would you buy infrastructure for players that will leave soon after launch anyway. There might be more leaving out of frustration for this, but infrastructure isn’t free, personel working it, the space etc. It all has to be paid, yet MMOs have a huge number of players more on launchweek compared to a more settled timeframe just a week later.

If you do not grasp this, then you are on the level of a monkey yourself and in no position to teach someone how to ‘conduct their operation’.

Everyone with a bit of foresight would have chosen the least populated servers namely: EU/SEA. Transfer back later and everything is good to do what YOU can do to reduce the waiting queue simulator.

There is a reason even wow cannot conduct a good launch experience every single time for their addon launches, because it isn’t feasible.
