for answer you have to know how aoe attack ratio and defense work in this game. And also take in consideration that circling can fail.
i will just quote the infinite @greyhiem knowledge from another topic:[quote=“greyhiem, post:68, topic:351712”]
Monster resist circling = keep original AoE-def. So your AoE skill will hit this mob first (always hits highest AoE-def mob first). This is why resist circling is very annoying for mergen. Homing arrow splash will fail because of a high AoE def mob. Homing arrow range is a box square box in front of your character.
Triple arrow depends on hitbox AoE and direction. Like shotgun (ranger barrage type).
For example, if you hug debuffed mob, and a resist mob is behind it --> you will hit debuffed mob 3x and the resist mob 1-3x (depends on distance). All mobs behind resist mob will not get hit even if they have circling debuff.
I don’t have any oracle scroll to show hitbox.
My chicken will show ->

Close small enemy (point blank) easy to get all hits.
Big enemy gets all hits even when far (boss).
Some enemies 2 hits depending on location and enemy size.
…
Enemy might block arrows.

Without sufficient support (falcon circling, linker) mergen will be difficult to use for AoE. You will still deal damage but hit less mobs, so don’t forget you still deal damage and are contributing to dps just less efficient. Mergen turns into boss burster. Arrow rain and point blank triple arrow are nice boss burst skills.
